Base on my recent failed attempt to make a custom dat, could someone do a recolour request for me :3? Basically want to recolour Mandau so it's got the same colour scheme as an Oxossi Facon, so like White~ish where it's light gold, purple~ish where it's dark gold/brown. I basically want a mandau-shaped Oxossi Facon >.>

I'm not much of a photoshop artist, so I'll hope someone else jumps in on this one.

This is what I had so far (it's a png for upload, not a bmp) so if anyone can do better than that, would be awesome <.<

I'll work on a little guide a bit later. basic effect adds to the same weapon type should be within most people's reach, with a bit of practice moving to different weapon types aint too bad.
    Thank you

Having trouble finding the model by manual searching, do you have a location for the Oxossi Facon DAT file?

So when you apply the effect to a different sized weapon, what does it look like in action? does in encompass the weapon properly?

Im just wondering what effects could be applied to my Current Herja's and Future Ryunohige

In my experience it stays right where it was on the original weapon. For example, if you were to use Coruscanti's effect on a polearm, it would remain a short bunch of sparks projecting up from your right hand. Position/size/rotation can be modified, but it's outside of my ability. Hex editing that sort of thing is difficult, you have to be in the zone to be able to recognize what you're looking for. I still have no idea how Mooshy was able to figure this all out, but I'm not sure if the newer method was as well documented as before they changed it.

position and sizing of the effects is done with the methods that Mooshy discovered. I'm working on a short guide that I'll post after dinner tonight. (less of a guide than me pointing to Mooshy's work and giving a few explainations and pointers)

But yea not only does the effect follow the same path it would in original weapon, but if you paste effect onto a different weapon type (like pasting GKT effect onto H2H) you will swing your H2H like a GKT unless you change it.

A guide would be awesome, thanks for all the effort.

Ok if you want to transfer effects from one weapon to another, you're going to want Altanaview, a hex editor like hex workshop, and you might want to grab VRS but it's not necessary.

For most of the effect weapons, (Tenkomaru being an exception) you can paste in the effect the way Mooshy suggests in the post at http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/629...=1#post4917910
Tenkomaru has an additional chunk of data at the start of the dat that needs to be added as well.
If you want a visual of what needs to be added, use the compare files tool in hex workshop to compare the effect weapon to its non effect counterpart. (the non effect version of tenkomaru is labled unknown GK1 in my list)

This works fine to put effect onto the same weapon type, but if you want to add effects to a different weapon type there are some additional steps.

First off you'll need to change the line that decides which swing animation to use. Either at the end of the .dat, or right before the effect info starts, you'll find a line called infoE.
you can scroll to it, or just run a search for it. it looks like this

The line that is circled is the line that needs to be replaced. I won't make a list of all of the different animations, but if you just open up another weapon for your race you can copy the line from that.

The other issue you'll run into is the effect may be the wrong size or in the wrong position for the weapon you're putting it on. I'll explain how to fix this in the next post.

To re-size and or move effects, you're going to need to make changes to the section of the .dat that controls the effects. Here is the section you're looking for (there will be 2-6 effects per .dat so you'll need to change each)

To find these sections, I usually just search for 0F04, but you can scroll down and look for the 2 lines of 3 ? if you wish.
What does all this mean you ask?! well here goes.
-The black circle is the name of the effect. (you can get a list of all the effects by opening the dat in VRS and noting all of the eff file names, but seems like a wasted step to me)
-The blue circle directly under the effect name is the weight (which skeleton it is bound to) again the best way to find the correct weight is to open another file with an effect in the area you want your effect to be placed.
-About halfway through the section you'll see the yellow circled section(it won't be called e1e2, but will generally be a 4 character in the middle of nowhere)
-The red circle directly under that is the effect position in relation to the weight. for H2H and some daggers it'll be all 0s which puts it directly on the hand. You'll have to experiment with this number to get the effect where you want it
-The green circles, in the 3rd 5th and 7th groups of 4 after the 0f04 block control the scale of the effect so here is where you re-size the effect.again you'll have to change this small amounts at a time and experiment with it.

If you need to change anything else about the effect, all of what I've written about the effect section and more can be found at http://magicmortar.blogspot.com/2009...n-weapons.html
more found at http://forum.neko-sentai.com/showthread.php?t=12666 You can thank Mooshy for the hours and days he spent finding out which blocks made which changes to effects.

One more small tip is, you'll be doing a lot of logging in>checking effects>logging out, make sure after you make a change in hex, and save, you open the .dat in altanaview. If the model is invisible in altanaview, it will most likely crash your game when you log in, so reload your backup and try again

First image is same as the second; It should be one containing InfoE. Also, there's no need to log in/out between making hex edits to the DAT, just make sure you're using something suitably unique as your dummy weapon in an unpopulated area and gearswap.

I'll see if they did upload the other image and accidentally linked the same one twice, as I didn't notice the similarity originally. Let's see...

Offhand mandau (for shape) is 142/48, offhand Oxossi (for colours) is 281/70, thanks heaps.

I might try my hand at recolouring Mandau with excali/carnwenhan colours too, see if it comes out any better.

The guide should be fixed now. I believe the images are now in the correct order and displayed properly.

Here you go Noodles, this should be pretty close to what I think you were going for.

Also, I did a tutorial about dissecting by layer and using color matching a few months ago which is here should you want to use it for future projects:

Could I trouble you for an updated model viewer list btw? I haven't been able to find an up to date one in the usual spots, although it must be said I didn't look too hard.
