So I hope this is a good place to ask this question, seeing as this thread seems to have a lot of really pro modders in attendance.
I have been using the body off of this full .dat mod set for Hume M of Odin's armor to replace Nuevo coselete:

However, the separation between the body piece of the and the legs piece of the .dats leaves a large noticeable space on other pairs of pants, such as homam here:

So I thought to myself, I can just take the legs and the body into metasequoia and make a new MQO from the body, import enough of the legs MQO to fill the space and make a seamless body for use. Here's what I managed to do in Meta.
Original Mesh:

New edited mesh:

However, the problem I have is when I convert the MQO back to DAT, I come up with the same thing as before the edit; nothing changes.
Because I added foreign mesh to the MQO, is there something additional I need to do before converting it back to a single DAT? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
