You talk about testing like its so easy..it has the power to 1shot an aegis with its dumb aeroga4 -> Medusa jav. combo. Just holding it without 2-3 aegis is all but a miracle, there has to be something we're not doing correctly, as for a while we had it kind of calm (past 90%) he wasnt going ape shit, wasnt really all that hard, until 83% when he regened 2 ticks then bene'd, then all hell broke loose once more.
Since the log isnt the answer to timing 2 hrs, has anyone found out if AV 2 hrs every 60 seconds, every game hour, every other?
Actually now that you mention it, the first time we had to wait for tardbear to change to pld (held for ~15min, 40min total fight), and that was the time we got it to 83%.
The second time we had everyone on desired jobs, and killed as soon as regen stopped on JoL, and we couldnt damage it below 96%, its regen was just too damn high.
Am I right to assume JoL wasnt in the 'shark' only SMN mode the second time?
I was really wanting to test Tomahawk-> Enfeeble, as I have seen this land on some otherwise normally immune mobs.
I was weak when I tried it and by the time tomahawk landed I was midcast elegy and got raped. Enfeebling seems like it would allow for a little bit easier holding pattern rather than saying well you better have 3 decked aegis plds to even attempt anything.
From what I saw unless you have 2 incredibly skilled/geared PLD's. 3 tanks would be the way to go with all the bullshit he was dishing out.(with the inability to consistently land enfeebles)
ES slow/para/elegy all got resisted I can confirm that.
We should of asked the JP's what they took of SE's AV video in our questions![]()
The second time JoL died as soon as it started "shark" mode; I think it only got to pop 2 sets. The first time JoL got to pop more than 5 sets of sharks.
Our set up for both fights were:
2xPLD, 2xWHMs, BRD, RDM (tank pt); the rest were BLMs, 2xRDMs and a BRD.
The second time we had a SAM in but he didn't do much; we also had a few WHMs and BLMs, and 3xPLDs outside.
We rarely had more than 3ppl close to AV so Aeroga4 was doing around 700dmg to both tanks. Is possible to survive Manafont(Meteor) if mages stay @max casting range and are warned fast enough so they can run away; Manafont(Meteor) rarely killed a full HP tank when it was first used.

cross referencing old post regarding zone string table. seems i was right that there are specific lines of text in the dat files for the zone regarding AV's 2 hrs. not news, but it does serve well to dispel ideas that the difference is merely a glitch.
I'm curious to see how a full manaburn + tank pt would do on this.
Blm do lower DoT than most melee and nuking the day has some sort of effect on regen. 10 blms might do well with hate and such, just need a lot of backup tanks
Been thinking about this myself. Seemed so much easier the first time around when we actually had less time to fart around with him because of the longer JoL. Still, if the AV depopping 2 hours after JoL is popped is not a mistake, I don't see how anyone's going to have the time to figure it out.
Thinking back on the JoL fights, there wasn't much that I could see since I wasn't in the ally, but the second one was definitely faster. Also, from what I heard on vent, the blms kept managing to cure it (the second one) with their nukes because it kept changing element mid-cast, and I'm wondering if that somehow pissed AV off. I can't really think of anything else that was different between the two JoLs, but something affected AV's mannerisms because it was like two different mobs the second time around.
I really am starting to think that JoL is really important here, and I never thought that before. Something has to tie those two mobs together.
I'm just as baffled about AV as I was before I went out to help yesterday, though. SE, why must you frustrate me so?
was the main problem keeping it from blms or just tanks going down too fast?
I think that'd be the way to go, too. Maybe a few melee, but overall ranged damage would seem to be the best route for sure. On paper the AV strategy is fairly simple even without "glitching" it, but now that we only have an hour and a half or less to do it. . plus the difficulty of actually pulling off a tank party that's good enough to survive Meteors and Aeroga IV + Medusa Javelins . . yeah, in practice, the odds aren't so good.
BLMs weren't getting a lot of hate, just couldn't keep tanks up. Had what, 5 WHMs there? There were 5 tanks (3 of which had Aegis) and they were rotating in and out practically as soon as they unweakened.
