Chances are, you can since the WS point data is stored within the weapon UNTIL you trade it into storage. So, don't do that.

At Floor 70 I got PUP + RNG weapons.

That night I got both to 250+ points, PUP first then RNG.

Next week I hit 100 on my disc and instantly got both WSs. You don't even need to be on the correct job to trade them back to the NPC, I was on PUP while trading my broken RNG weapon and still got the WS. So it's pretty flexible, and you can break more than one at the same time.

    Edit: mioko beat me.

Are there any negative consequences for turning in a specific weapon to the Salvage NPC after getting the WS for a specific job?

I assume the counter on the weapon gets reset, but you already have the WS, that shouldn't matter, right? Has anyone done this already? Was discussing this last night and noone knew for sure, or had stored their weapons yet after obtaining WSs.

Your data gets reset, that's about it. I traded PUP's to Abquabah and he accepted no problem, then traded RNG's to the Salvage guy as I have no reason to keep it after getting the WS. At least I know it's there, and not rotting in my MH.

Hold on. Are we saying that the weapon data is all done client side and then occasionally passed to the server when you zone or some other occassion?

If this is the case, wouldnt it be possible for somone to write a program that just re-writes the data on the client weapon to be enough for unlock, in the same way that other program is reading the data?

It sounds wide open to hackage and if so, would be a massive fail on SE's part. Hello There Final Fantasystar universe

No, it's saying that the main data is on the server, and updates the number on your comp every time you zone.

I doubt that is possible. I am not 100% sure of this but my understanding is that certain data is stored in your memlocs which update each time you zone. You could find the particular memloc for your current gil, and change it, however, the server has the correct values. Anytime you go to purchase something, it would check against the server values allowing the transaction to be made, or block it if you don't have the funds to so. You could give yourself 99 billion gil client side and have it even show up on your display, but its gil you don't have, and when you zone, the server updates the memlocs with the correct values. So each time you do a weaponskill, the server keeps track, and then when you zone, the numbers are udpated in client memory.

hacking client data to unlock a ws is no different to hacking some souped up free stuff or whatever went massivly wrong with PSU, at the end of the day its hacking and shouldnt be able to happen in an MMO.

The data needs to be in memory for the client to decide whether to show the weapon skill or not when you open the ability menu. The data in memory is merely a copy of what's on the server, though. So no there's no way to cheat this. This has to be done in order to ensure smooth control of the interface for the lcient, but the server is able to confirm whether the client is allowed to do what it's trying to do. Your position, speed, etc are all in memory so that there is no lag in your input producing movement on the screen- but the server will attempt to verify if what you're doing is supposed to be possible.

A good way to see this in action is to quickly open your command menu(lower left menu)'s spell menu immediately as you zone, if you do so, all spells you've ever learned (data that remains known to the client from one zone to the next) will appear in the menu (though spells not available to your job will be blocked from casting) but if you open the menu again after a few seconds, spells not related to your main/sub will be hidden from the list.

Got Tachi: Rana at 2319 according to the WS point counter,
Hand-count was higher, but I'll jump to the conclusion I was wrong in the hand-count, though I don't see how.
Either way, blinding people with purple flashes and such.

Here's a question, if I got my weapon on floor 0. Should i just wait till i get to a higher floor to start the quest, or should I get WS points as i advance.

You can get points as you advance, any progress you've made will stay on the weapon. just make sure you flag the quest first.

Most definitely you should get WS points between nyzul runs. I've gotten almost 3500 pts on my smn staff, and about to clear floor 40, where point requirement and my points will (should)line up.

get ws points while your tags are down, do nyzul when able, you'll get it faster then waiting for your disk to reach x floor then doing the ws.

that way you'll ding into the ws when your disk matches your pts

Just got Stringing Pummel at 3123 WS points at floor 45, accurate to within 4 as I was soloing light SCs and picking Dragon Kick from the menu so I'd never go over, as well as using the WS point checking program. Not sure why the numbers are all lowballed so far.
