I was excited about this game...3 years ago. By the time it came out I found I don't really care to buy it. Also this DRM sounds like bullshit, so if I do play it I'm certainly not buying it. Oh well, EA always finds a way to screw up something good.

Another game infected by the casuaaallllssss. Really dumbed down than I thought it was going to be and doesn't really hold the attention.

If you like to create things over and over then go and get it and you'll be busy for hours. Otherwise it's just missing a lot of in depth stuff and you'll just get bored fast with it.

And from beginning to end it just seems like you play through 1 huge tutorial even when in the space stage. Seems they really focused on the younger players with this game.

I refuse to 'buy' anything with that DRM. I'll torrent it to give it a playthrough or two, but from what a couple of friends tell me that's about all it's worth.

I bought the game for my little brother, but as he was busy with CoD4 i tried it myself and enjoyd it while it lastet. Took only around 10h from start to reaching the center of universe as an omnipotent being (full progress bar in space stage) though. Most fun for me, was the tribe and civilisation stages, space became annyoing pretty fast with having to fly back to your home systems every time some stupid pirates felt like attacking or some random eco system braking down for the millionth time. I'm kinda happy i didn't pay for it myself but i would recomend to at least download and try it out.

Also imo getting into the middle of the universe was not realy worth it <.<

    Spoiler: show
There are literally hundreds of systems from those aggressiv story-related aliens (forgot the name) and the distance you can go with your ship becomes smaller the closer you get to the center. So you have to fly from system to system, hoping you dont fly into a dead end, always with half a dozen enemy ships following you, trying to smash your ship. (take at the very least 6 big energie and 6 big health items with you) When you finaly reach the middle you get an ok-ish cutscene with an little ufo and the "staff of life" as your reward item. Using the staff makes a planet instantly to T3, which is pretty nice, but you have only 42 charges so its kinda useless in an universe with thousands of planets. No super godlike powers, no additional cheats, no special medals or anything. Just a staff that makes something you can already do without it, easier for 42 planets... yay

I didn't know anything about that DRM and also didn't notice anything when installing x.x guess i will have to do some formating then or find some other way to get rid of that thing.

I saw the game at PAX and thought it looked cool and worth a try.

I have now played the game all the way to the space stage (carnivore), then got flat out bored with the repetitive, mundane tasks.

I tried next going through it again as an herbivore... it was a snorefest and frusturating. Tried another carnivore with the lady friend, we got bored pretty quickly. I'll be deleting the game shortly.

Like others have said, it's a great game for people who are "new" to gaming. The penalty for dying is very low, and it combines action gaming with some RTS elements depending on the stage you are on. The creaters are fantastic, but sadly I think I spent more time creating stuff than actually playing the game.

Space is almost too big, especially for a casual gamer, and the jump from civilization to space is huge... what else is annoying is once you jump to space, you can't walk around your own planet anymore, or other planets. Also once you reach space, your planet for some reason stops making money... which makes the initial time in space extremely difficult.

EA has really isolated their core gaming fanbase recently. First off, they stopped released the majority of their sports games for PC (not that they were really that good anyways). Secondly, the whole DRM issue is absurd, and I'm happy the community is reacting the way it is. I've found that with people who acquire games "illegally" that if they really like the game and something is disabled (i.e. online play) that they will go buy the game to receive all of the functions. I did this with Pro Evolution Soccer last year.

EA could have made a killing off of Spore by ditching the DRM and just selling it normally, but making an online Spore store where you can buy really cool cars/building/etc for $0.50 or $1.00. I know I would have bought a few things.

Overall, the game is a fun experience.... for a few hours. But the replay value is surprisingly low due to the tedious nature of the tasks the game requires from you in certain stages.

not even sure i want to waste my time on this torrent cause you all make it sound horribly repetitive and not up to today's standards of depth

Its not that great. I've been looking forward to it for a long time, and ended up DLing it... it was hugely fun at first, I played it for a few hours, went to bed, and now I have no urge to even play it. Maybe later..

    Disappointing.

I thought I was going to be somewhat reminiscent of EVO for SNES but this game fails ~ not even fun. If they made it like that, it would be have been astronomically more fun.

Eh, sounds like I'll just torrent it for now and wait until an expansion pack to consider buying it.

Anyone know if the DRM on the Mac install is as bad?

I just hate SecuROM for that fact that it's running via rootkit and is *always* on, even though the publishers give us the finger and say it doesn't.
(and the bs that it uninstalls itself with the game)
