Okay, don't ask me how this happened because I have absolutely no freaking clue. I bought and installed an LG dvd burner a few months ago (GSA-H55N) and it's been working absolutely fine up until last night.
I had just started my computer up and was right clicking a program on my taskbar to exit it when my computer lagged for 1 or 2 seconds. Somehow I either managed to click the LG ODD firmware tool that came with the drive or my computer thought I did, and it magically uninstalled from my computer without a word. Now, this is utterly impossible because the menu when you right click the tool looks like this:
I thought this wasn't a big deal since it's just an update tool, but when I went to burn a DVD both of my drives (DVD and CD burner) were not listed as an available device. I opened My Computer, and lo and behold, they had both vanished (they are both LG drives, but the CD burner came with the computer at purchase). Thinking it was a glitch, I restarted my computer and they both appeared again...except my DVD-RAM drive was listed only as CD-ROM.Code:| LG ODD Homepage | Update Content | About... | Exit
Deciding it was due to the fact that I need to reinstall the firmware tool, I did so and flashed the firmware to the newest version; however, this did not solve my problem. The drive can burn DVDs through my programs, and can also correctly identify the DVD I insert in the drive, but it will not play them, and it still calls itself CD-ROM D: even though it should be DVD-RAM D:.
Can someone please help me out with this. It's really starting to tick me off.
