    LG DVD burner problems

Okay, don't ask me how this happened because I have absolutely no freaking clue. I bought and installed an LG dvd burner a few months ago (GSA-H55N) and it's been working absolutely fine up until last night.

I had just started my computer up and was right clicking a program on my taskbar to exit it when my computer lagged for 1 or 2 seconds. Somehow I either managed to click the LG ODD firmware tool that came with the drive or my computer thought I did, and it magically uninstalled from my computer without a word. Now, this is utterly impossible because the menu when you right click the tool looks like this:
    Code:
    | LG ODD Homepage
    | Update Content
    | About...
    | Exit
I thought this wasn't a big deal since it's just an update tool, but when I went to burn a DVD both of my drives (DVD and CD burner) were not listed as an available device. I opened My Computer, and lo and behold, they had both vanished (they are both LG drives, but the CD burner came with the computer at purchase). Thinking it was a glitch, I restarted my computer and they both appeared again...except my DVD-RAM drive was listed only as CD-ROM.

Deciding it was due to the fact that I need to reinstall the firmware tool, I did so and flashed the firmware to the newest version; however, this did not solve my problem. The drive can burn DVDs through my programs, and can also correctly identify the DVD I insert in the drive, but it will not play them, and it still calls itself CD-ROM D: even though it should be DVD-RAM D:.

Can someone please help me out with this. It's really starting to tick me off.

my laptop dvd drive once randomly disapeared, I think something corrupted drver wise and idk how I wouldve fixed it, besides what I did which was a System Restore. Try one of those, if it doesn't work check the device manager and see if it even lists the drives when they arent on my computer. If they don't you may want to look into if the data cable or port the cable is plugged into is bad if possible.

Nah the computer already recognizes them, like I said, they reappeared after I rebooted my computer, but the DVD-RAM drive is just listed as CD-ROM instead.

Yeah I restored to last Saturday, the drive now is renamed to the proper DVD-RAM D: but it still won't play any DVDs. Any ideas?

Go into device manager, uninstall the device and then restart, if you're lucky Windows will auto detect it and install it correctly

If not, then you're stuck with guessing between either replacing that drive, or the more likely solution of reinstalling windows. Good times!

    Thanks
Meh, I hate to say it, but as long as my drive continues to read dvd data discs and burn them, I don't even care enough to keep fiddling around with this shit :/
