wow... 3 melees and 3 mages, and you're managing to go up easily.
You guys are making me being too much optimistic about my future in Nyzul, I'm afraid :D

    @Aux
Thanks a lot for the guide links, I'll be sure to read every single line of those guides ^^

The DD don't need /NIN really, though I suppose it could help on boss floors. If they're smart with meds though then it's not an issue. We've never tried BST, so I'm not sure on that one.

Typically we have a NIN, 2 DD, 1 BRD, 1 WHM and 1 BLM. On ToAU boss floors the support is BRD, SMN, WHM.

We nearly always clear 5 floors and have been averaging 7-8 lately. I can't recall the last time we've had any major issue on a boss floor either. We've taken 4 or 5 discs to 96 overall.

Since, no mattere the setup, I've never read about people timing out in Nyzul in this thread, what's the matter?
Something changed compared to 2 years ago's Nyzul? Or were we being just noobz?
Because, like, when we got even 3x Lamps in a row and several "kill all" floors, we really had hard times in completing all the 5 floors. And those times when we did (the majority, actually we failed just a couple of times or a bit more) we managed to win only by a minimal amount of seconds left.

So what's the matter? With us being utterly noobs and not experienced enough with Nyzul yet? Or did something change in these almost 2 years that have passed since then?

Part of it is just getting more experience with Nyzul. You need someone on the ball to lead the party on lamp floors, especially order lamps. You need to know what situations are safe to pull, how fast you can kill mobs and how many you need to pull certain NMs. You need everyone to bring oils/powders and if possible a ranged item to pull with. It was rather hard for us when we just got started, but the more you do it the more you get used to it. Figure out methods that work for your particular group. You should be able to see areas where you need improvement, like if your group is getting a lot of aggro from gears, or whatever it may be.

Our group is about to start over from 0-100 for the other 4 people who don't have runic discs and we run normally:
SAM DRK WAR THF RDM BLM for boss runs
SAM DRK WAR SAM RDM BLM for floor climbs
SAM DRK WAR BRD RDM BLM might be the future setup for us for faster climbs but dunno yet.

We normally are able to win and only have really big issues when we get kill all floors with cassie >_> (last run we had 2 back to back kill all floors with cassie ; .

I think any setup of 4 DD + 2 support jobs works well, as long as the group has some experience playing together (and that will come with time if you static ^^).

My static is NIN NIN MNK THF WHM RDM (setup due to the jobs available to us, since most of us are casual players), and we usually clear every boss (including ToAU) without any issues... But we do loose a run once in a (looong) while ^^

There was a nerf shortly after it was introduced; if you did it early enough, you might be pre-nerf. We didn't notice a ton of difference before vs. afterwards, but maybe we just got lucky.

Experience is a large part of Nyzul. Knowing how to proceed on certain floors, sort of getting a feeling for the pattern of the floors so as not to get lost, knowing what mobs aggro magic / job abilities / sight / sound, being able to easily handle lamps in order... all of these come with time.

Nobody has talked about timing out, but it still happens. We do four Nyzuls a week, and probably once a month we time out or have to leave after 4 floors just due to too many soulflayers / magic aggro / avoid destroying gears / frogs / Hydra spamming physical shield. A couple of months back, after doing this for more than a year, we ended up with kill all / avoid discovery / Capricious Cassie and didn't even clear the first floor before timing out after we lost white magic due to a gear.

Shit happens, but as you get more experience, you will be better equipped to adapt as things don't go smoothly.

Ideal setup imo for climbing floors is RDM/WHM, BRD/WHM, WAR/NIN x4

For boss floors, same thing except remove a WAR and replace with a THF.

My personal group is WHM/BLM, RDM/WHM, WAR/NIN, WAR/NIN, NIN/WAR, THF/NIN and we do just fine.

In reality, any party that can chain indefinitely in any merit camp will be just fine for Nyzul Isle Investigation. Many other groups will work, just with varying degrees of efficiency.

We generally run with 2WAR,BRD,RDM, 2 more DD(out of DRK,WAR,DRG/sam or THF) We easily clear 5 Floors 90% of the time and pull out 10 Floors pretty often(usually 1 out of every 3 runs at least).

    BLU is pretty nice.
BRD imo is a must due to Flayers needing Finale and often needing Light based Sleep(BLU can do these but not as well imo).
Other DD can fit in but those we take seem to work the best, for us at least. Some of us have tried other jobs like SAM and they haven't worked as well.

And I completely despise anything relying too much on luck/randomness. Too bad japanese games are often full of that stuff. Well, off with the derail.
But, then again, I honestly believe the largest part in our sloppy tries has been played by our lack of experience with Nyzul.
If we had continued for more time, by now we would probably be able to go through floors with closed eyes, who knows...

Luck doesn't mean that much. Knowing how best to find mobs and kill them or how to figure out Lamps means alot more. We've cleared 10 Floors plenty of times with plenty of types of floor combonations. Experience means alot, Luck is a smaller part of it. Flayers/Puddings/Chariots/etc aren't so bad if you pay attention and focus, they wreck you if you screw around though.

Luck is a big component of Nyzul.

I'm sure anyone who has done enough runs has gotten a Cerberus w/ White Magic Pathos. No matter what "experience" level you have from Nyzul, there is always the chance to get shafted, once, twice and even repeatedly.

While very true, to a point, the more experience you have, the more bad luck it takes to wreck a run.

There is always an element of luck to Nyzul, but with experience, you can minimize the luck factor and overcome most bad luck. But no matter how much Nyzul you do, you will never be able to get rid of it completely.

It's just a matter of not letting bad luck caused failures frustrate you or piss you off, and moving on. (Getting frustrated and pissed off should be reserved for drop rates from boss mobs).

Yes yes sorry, I just meant that sentence as a sarcastic comment, I didn't mean to sound polemic or to start drama.
Sorry... with english not being my main language I often fail when I attempt to use rethoric or metaphores, or just cynic humor.

All your posts and comments actually really charged me up with a lot of optimism, and I'm very grateful to all of you for that

Yeah, I agree with Tan that sometimes there's the random/luck or the game doesn't want you to win.

Couple of examples I can give:

    Welcome to Floor 80.
    Job Abilities are Restricted.
The Cerberus is out of range.

    Welcome to Floor 96.
    White Magic is restricted.
    Objective: Kill all enemies
    Avoid discovery by Archaic Gears!
Capricious Cassie is out of range.

You might want to look into Fillmode if you have windower, but whether you find that this is cheating or not, is totally up to you.

No White Magic on Boss Floor, hi2u Fanatic's Drink and not caring cause the Boss is dead w/i 1m. Make your own Luck by being Experienced. Yes, sometimes you get screwed but not often and mny times you can get past things with experience.

    Our setup are

    1. nin
    2. thf, cor
    3. ridill war
    4. sam,brd,blu
    5. blm,brd,rdm
    6. rdm.

Usually we go as nin cor war sam blm/brd rdm. And it works fine except when we got a very bad floor setup. And most of the time if there is dahak, we will just let the blm solo it while the rest of ppl just continue killing everything else in floor.

As for the boss floor, blm still good for behe, faf, aspi. However for cerb/hydra/khimmy, usually blm's damage is close to nothing. So just become somewhat backup heal with seal+slow for those fight, and also the 100th floor disc holder.

My Nyzul group runs as SAM, BRD, RDM, WHM, MNK, BLU and we've had many successes and failures. The MNK also has BLM and we used that for boss runs on 20/40 and setup SC+MB. Back then, the SAM wasn't 75, so he came NIN instead.

I can say the biggest impact within Nyzul is having a solid backline. MP management, quick pulls, fast -nas/Cures are absolutely critical to making things smooth. Having everyone learn the ropes on lamps, and adapting to the changing floors helps a top, and comes with experience.

BLU is quite nice on the climbs, doing well as a backup healer, fast DD, and versatile. The only place BLU lacks is on the boss floors, particularly 60/80/100. The ToAU NMs are a bit thick skinned for BLU. BLU/THF can work on Khim, but leaves much to be desired on Cerb and Hydra. The lack of shadows is a huge problem.

You spoke of PUP earlier. I'm a 75 PUP myself and LOVE to gear it and go to events whenever possible. Nyzul just isn't a PUP friendly place. You MUST keep your Auto alive at all costs as unless you lose it in the first few minutes, you'll be hurting for the rest of that tag. Many things have nasty AoE, including the bosses, so Automatons have a rough time staying alive. I could see the Soulsoother working out as a decent backup healer, but to do it well and right will somewhat limit the master's ability to deal damage. Spiritreaver would work quite well on 20/40 bosses, but not so much on 60/80/100.

BRD is a must for Nyzul Isle and Storm Fife is extremely powerful. Often times the BRD can pull, keep up 3-4 songs, crowd control, and be ready to floor up the instant it's available. We even found BRD/THF to be of some use on boss runs (since we don't have a THF main) for gimpy TH and having access to Flee for floor ups.

DD wise, I'd stick with the heavies. WAR SAM DRK and DRG are your staples. WAR has a slight advantage in tanking areas, SAM in DD areas, DRK in utility (stun especially on Floor 100). DRG/mage has a nice touch for climbing too as others have mentioned. Any of these can tank a boss run, especially with support items.

I know it won't surprise anyone to see me mention War/Dnc, but I am wondering if anyone has seen or tried any melee/Dnc in Nyzul.

I keep seeing mp management, tanking, solo ability.

I have done exactly one random group Nyzul run, they said /Sam would be good... then while fighting the first monster, a Golem... I was thinking "fuck, if I was /Dnc I coulda erased us so we could move instead of waiting for the Rdm/Whm who ran off with the guy who wasn't bound to get back here."
