The Dark Knight's butler, British old timer Michael Caine, spilled some massive Batman news to MTV at the Toronto film fest.

He's basically confirmed the rumors that super thesp Johnny Depp and Academy Award winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman have been cast in the caped crusader's next film installment:

"I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’”

Fuck yeah if this is true!

I think Johnny Depp would be an amazing riddler. He doesn't athetically (sp) look the part, but I have no doubt he would be anything less than creepy & twisted as a Riddler

This is like deja vu all over again. When we first found out Heath Ledger was going to be the Joker, everyone was pissed and saying the movie was going to be terrible. Well he definitely proved them wrong. Johnny Depp may do just the same. I wouldn't worry about it.

JD doesn't take roles he won't excel in. Seriously, he seems to only take awesome parts. With the exception of the 9th gate though, fuck that movie, everyone gets at least one flop as a freebie imo

though i have to ask, why they would stick to villains already used, even though a different 'universe'.... is it just because they're known more to the general public? isn't that more of a reason to use the lesser known, and be able to explore more of the background.. because trying to give any background to villains used once will obviously end up being compared to what they were given in another movie, etc. mm, i dunno... though this casting does sound promising. hope it works out. :D

I honestly don't see how anyone can watch the first two Nolan Batman's and almost any of Depp's movies and think that combining the two would be anything less than awesome.

Johnny Depp would make an amazing Riddler imo. He's one of the best character-actors in Hollywood atm.

I don't know how to feel about this. Nothing is confirmed yet, these are just possibilities I think.

As good as Johnny Depp is and as much as he gets into his roles, he can annoy me at times with his acting. I really can't think of a much better actor to play a chartacter like the Riddler though. I just hope Chris Nolan, Bale and the rest of the cast and crew come back.

I would never doubt Daniel Day Lewis being incredible in any role. I doubt him taking the role as the Riddler in Batman though.

Because they want to top The Dark Knight, so big names + well recognized villains is sort of the obvious way to go about doing that.
