Oh, I thought they already did their potentially-universe-destroying thing. Nevermind! What's the new doomsday date, now? At this rate, they'll keep running into issues and it'll be like 4 years before they get around to it.

I don't think they've set a date. The malfunction that happened a few months ago pushed everything back a few months. I think the only date mentioned is that it will be back up and running in early 2009.
They're not expecting to get to the full scale experiments until spring.
The SSC is just outside of where I go to school. Makes me sad =/.
God I hope so, novices you have known and read about the LHC for 2 weeks try to tell me of all people about how it works and the repercussions of it. I can actually go back my normal life and not have strangers asking me "what are you reading, you know Particle physics is dangerous, I heard them talk about it on Entertainment tonight". Yes I actually heard that omw to work. /facepalm
Nothing I hate worse than a know it all Physics weekend warrior.
Not to mention that in the mean time I have the HH30, ARP 87 and NGC 4258 to fill my days until it is back up. I've been spending way too much time @ Galaxyzoo over the past few months :3
Ah well, I have something to look forward to next year so it's all good.
I accidentally the whole galaxy?
