Tonight's episode was also very lack luster. Are they running out of good ideas already? What is happening to one of my favorite shows?

Edit: Aren't the winter olympics starting next week too?

I thought it was a very solid episode tonight...it was very interesting to see Walter's progression of memories through the show - but then again, when isn't it interesting to watch that?

that episode felt like fringe is turning into X-files. I liked it better when w/e the fuck they stepped over it was somehow involved with william bell and/or walters ealier experiments and leading up to the main story of a parallell universe, but this!? something walter was a "consultant" on for a brief period!?

Found this on another site. Another filler episode, but that's what makes this show what it is, their filler episodes are pretty fucking entertaining.

I can't figure out how Walter was involved in EVERYTHING they end up investigating.

It really didn't matter to the story that Walter was involved in the elephant man project thing.

It completely mattered that Walter was involved in the original stages of the research that led to the elephant man project!
His knowledge/relationship with the daughter of the scientist that created the optical illusion machine is what helped them figure it out.

Before Walter had the knowledge of how to open a portal to the alternate universe literally carved out of his head, he was a grade A asshole. (This was revealed when they hooked his original brain back up to get the information). Somehow he grew a heart after the Peter from his own universe died and he decided to snatch the alternate Peter. He is responsible for a large chunk of what is going on in the show, and it will be interesting to see how they incorporate if they ever do the alternate universe Walter into the story.

So many Red Herrings and twists we still don't have any clue why Massive Dynamic is hiding so much shit. Given the ratings the show is getting currently we will be lucky to find out the whole story. They really need to drive it forward before they get canned.

No, I understood how Walter's involvement led to important plot developments, but it was all fluff. None of it was necessary for the story to have a beginning, middle, and end. It would have been better if it was just an episode of the X-Files. It wouldn't have been terribly hard to re-write the episode to remove the "hey Walter, you did this" pieces of it.

The show started off with two types of stories: Episodes that revolved around "what we didn't know" about the cast, the world, and the impending conflicts, and episodes that were just weird. With this new season, it just seems like everything is related to everything else, and the only way that this would make sense is if everything was leading us up to some dramatic conclusion.

But the elephant people episode was out of left field. There was no overt connection to Massive Dynamic, or Bell, or Nina, or the bald traveler dudes, or anything that would link the incident to the overall arc of the story, and yet Walter was involved.

It's a great show, but between the unaired episode from season 1 two weeks ago and the elephant people episode last week, the show is losing momentum with me.

You are losing momentum with a show because an airing of an extra episode and one episode where it doesn't connect with the main plot?

Although the last 2 episodes were filler, what amplified the 'losing momentum' feeling was probably the long break before they were aired. They should've shown an episode that draws us back into the main story of colliding dimensions instead of these lackluster ones.

I disagree, I think this episode is an important part of the mystery of how the people in the alternate dimension can transform to look like anyone.

Perhaps the humans in the other dimension managed to take the invention a step further, make each human their own "antenna" in order to engulf them in an electromagnetic field with the help of mercury. And due to - as was explained in this episode - the electromagnetic field generated by the machine causes a permanent genetic mutation, which is why they look the way they do, and how they can make themselves look like anyone.

I mean, didn't you notice the resemblance between them and the people in the other dimension? They said the military became obsessed with it, I don't see it as an impossibility that this episode hints towards what happened in the other dimension.

The last episode was stupid though, I agree. As people have mentioned before, they should have thrown it in somewhere in season 1.

Ya, although there wasn't a whole lot of story progression I still really enjoyed last nights episode. Hopefully they'll expand on the ending in next weeks episode.
