I was wondering the exact same thing.... Odd that they never showed him either... I assume the Broyles that was shown "Over there" was the main Broyles because he didn't have the fake eye.
I guess that would make sense, but... I'm not a fan of that at all, just because there is no more Peter (for now) doesn't mean people that died should come back to life.
The whole Broyles thing really threw me off, seemed like a huge screw up to me. I really hope they give some explanation behind it, I'm sure they just didn't forget and screw up, but really don't like it so far.
According to the observers, who was in last nights episode near the end, (did u guys see him) Peter did in fact rewrite the timeline, things did change enough so that other Broyles was still alive. If you look at the little things too, Walter does not go outside at all, this is because of the lack of Peter.
There are other little things too.
I honestly can't think of a logical explanation for how Broyles would have died if Peter did not exist. I mean, you can speculate that Olivia would have remembered who she was no matter what but that comes down to fate. That isn't what is being explored this season though.
The whole episode was about how a single choice, person, or event could change an entire life and the lives of the people around them. The choice to run away and the encounter with one person saved the lives of twenty-three people on one side and the absence of those things on the other side lead to their deaths.
If you pluck a person out of existence there are obvious consequences. Peter isn't just gone. He never existed as we know him. Both versions of him died as a boy so anything after that point was rewritten. Some things changed in barely noticeable ways and others changed in drastic ways.
This is a fun season.
Fringe has a way of showing first, confusing the fuck out of you, then reveal the answers. I like this style of writing.
Actually the episode at the end was about the fact that you cannot erase someone from existence, as the impact of thier existence will always exist no matter what in some form. This is why at the end even though his memories were taken of the woman that saved him. The stuff that she taught him still remained no matter what. this relates directly to Peter.
I had to chuckle a little at the beginning of the episode where Olivia says Lincoln isn't her type and Astrid replies "Ever think your type just doesn't exist?"
Also interesting that Peter's disappearance means the other Olivia is back with her doctor boyfriend. A little disappointing because I liked the budding relationship between her and Lincoln.
I was totally unsure of the direction of the show after the last season, but I'm loving this set up and story. Definitely needs more cross-overs and more doublelivia
I wanted to hear more about Olivia killing her step-father because I'm pretty sure he was still alive and sending her a Birthday card every year to taunt her before Peter was erased. How did Peter's non-existence change this? I know they met once when they were kids when Olivia was at the Cortexiphan trials but it was only briefly. :/ Loved both episodes so far. :D
Massive Dynamic & Nina Sharpe have been absent so far. I wonder if the company was still formed in this new timeline?
Also, how did a rift open in the first place if Peter never existed for Walter to try and save? Ugh it's really interesting, but it's like rewriting the entire backstory of the show at least for a season.
I know they've said that Peter never existed, but I'm curious if this means that he was never born at all or if he had just died when he was young instead of being saved by our world's Walter. The only way I can see the other world still having problems is if Walter did actually still travel to the other world in order to save Peter, but failing maybe? I don't know. So many questions they need to answer this season. >.>
Here is all my reasoning:
1. Peter died as a boy when Walter kidnapped him and they fell in the lake. The Observer said "They must never know the boy lived to be a man."
2. Alt Broyles is still alive via my explanation above.
3. Why did Olivia go to the other side in the first place if Peter wasn't there for her to save? Because they kidnapped her so Fauxlivia could take her place. Walter wouldn't have organized the Cortexifan kids to cross over because he can't leave the lab let alone the universe.
4. Olivia says she killed her father but in the previous timeline he was alive and taunting her. In the previous timeline her conversation with Peter when they were kids lead to Walter finding out and threatening her stepfather so he stopped abusing her. Without him she had to take care of it herself.
Hopefully I'm not missing anything(left out the obvious ones like Fauxliv's baby).
I was thoroughly impressed with the scene with the dual-Olivia in the conference room. The timing was incrediblely precise, and I really want to know how many takes it took to get it right.
I laughed a bit at one point - when Olivia is talking to the professor in his alt's living room, you can see Lincoln and alt Olivia in the background messing with her hair.
I found the idea of Gus fascinating, would've liked to see it's origin explored.
It was pretty interesting. Writing was good but not as great as last week, but I'm just glad they haven't run out of weird science-y shit to do episodes about, or recycle any of the shit we've seen before.
