Tutorial NPCS: Final Fantasy Easy Mode Start!

Well hopefully I'll never see what I saw in the dunes back when the NA PS2 version hit retail after Beta.

There I soloing and then get a Dune party invite. The Leader (a War) begins to use <Call> rather frequently in battle while running around the mob. I tell him "you know running around the mob has no effect on its ability to hit you". He tells me how wrong I am and how it does make it miss. I go: "Whatever", do what you want".

Meanwhile he continues to spam <call> during a fight every time. Finally I get sick of hearing that noise and go "DUDE!! WTF are you doing? Why do you have to use <call> so much???"
He then Yells: "I'm trying to keep the mobs attention and keep it away from the Magic casters Dumbass!".........

I tell him he is a moron, and then explain to him and the party that call is to get the attention of PLAYERS, not mobs. He argues this with me for 10 mins. Finally I just leave the party tired of all that Call1 spam. I dont think I ever ran into that guy again, or maybe he finally learned about what Call is for, and i just never noticed him again.

I think most of us tried this, at least our first few fights. Makes sense! I mean, I *can* move during battle... so it must be a good idea!!

It took me till level 7 to figure out that you could rest after fights, I just fought till I died, HPed and went back out to fight more.

Same for me. Except I'd run all the way back to my MH to get healed whenever I didn't die.

Does the Beginner's NPC criticize your gear and lack of a subjob when you hit 20?

I read the manual before even touching the discs, so I knew about all that, except for the seals.

Yeah, I had this party leader in the dunes once.. cant remember if it was a War or a Drk, I just remember he had a greatsword. He would run far away from the mob, in the middle of the fight. He'd be way back behind the mages, then run in and attack. Then he would run away and do it again.

So yeah... then he tried to bring us into gustav tunnel i think? W/e zone is at secret beach. I told him it was retarded, he said I was retarded. Then i laughed as our lvl 15 party got raped by some bats, zoned the mob, then got kicked for running away.

I started off as a taru blm but died all the damn time, i got to level 7 or 8 maybe. Then i made a elv warrior... man... getting invites on warrior was near impossible. I remember I met ryko in Qufim when we were both around 20-24 I'd actually sit lfg next to his party waiting for someone to drop so i could join in because THATS how slow the invites were. I think qufim had more people than aery does now when the game first came out...

Level Sync starts at 10. Can't imagine the Tutorial going much further past 10. Might explain the whole lfp and Level Sync features before they kick you out of the nest. Or they could go into nation missions, ect.

The NPC should inform new players that in FFXI it is called "leveling up" and not "training". There's no trainers to train at mofo's.

I swear to god if they start assigning exp rewards to quests and don't make it retroactive I will flip 3 shits

That XP reward was a one time thing for killing that monster in La Thaine. I did not receive any more XP from any of the other quests that the NPC gave me.

Maybe I'll get something for hitting level 10, who knows?

Man I remember standing by Faerie(sp) tunic religiously for my lvl27ish RDM because I thought ele resist enhanced nuke DMG, and loads of ppl telling me not to nuke, but I was a RDM with a tunic and could do like loads of DMG, I also had lvl5 WAR sub good times.

I always remembered the urban legend that if you voked or crit a gob at the right time he would drop his bomb...

Also if a tank can't hold hate against a blm chain nuking, he sucks and should learn to keep hate v.v

8: 1k gil reward for reaching level 10. Explains the concept of aggro and what types. The final quest is to go to the Craig of Holla and get the gate crystal and bring it back.

I wish I knew wayyy back then how beastmen's seals were important and that there was a sort function for inventory...

9: Quest line complete. Earned 1k XP and 3 free chocopasses. Explained how the gate crystals work. Gave final advice to party and gain XP with other adventurers.

Talking to her after this goes into concepts such as Search Comments, Skillchains, Magic Bursts, and Skillchan Elemental Properties. These are just help texts however, no quest or reward involved.

Best solution would be that exp quests unlock after completing x amount of unique quests. Otherwise, I too will flip some shits.
