    Changing Password

So in light of all the recent . . . happenings . . . I decided, "Hey I'll be good and change my password for PlayOnline!"

So I changed it, and now I can't login. I guess I've upgraded the security on my account pretty well considering I can't even get into it, but I would like it to be more secure AND have the ability to play the game.

I'm going to contact customer support when they open in a couple of hours, but I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and knows a fix for it or if it's a known issue that when you try to change your password you always get locked out or something.

Thanks, and feel free to move if not advanced enough.

Well, for starters, you could remember your new password.

If you can't log in with the password you think you made, just call them like you are and get it reset. Doubt there's anything else you can do really.

And no, you don't always get 'locked out'.

I am pretty sure it's case sensetive, so if you use caps then try with/without.

it doesn't like some special chars too iirc, such as the shift of the num keys. it will let you input them into your password for some reason, but when you key in your password, drop them and it plays ball. don't quote me on that though.

This. One of the times I changed my password I had an @ and a * in there, and I couldn't get it to work. Finally figured out that it wouldn't accept those characters and started typing the password without them.

I think this is the problem. I'm not an idiot that forgot what they just changed their password to. I did have special characters in my new password because hey, that makes it more secure, but I guess I'll have to do without them when I get it reset and changed again.

Thank you for the useful information.

For those that are interested, here is the conversation I had with the service agent. My PII and name have been removed/changed (duh). The short version is that you cannot use special characters in your PlayOnline passwords. It is not allowed. They may implement it in the future though.

SEI POL Gene: Hello, Mahman, thank you for contacting the PlayOnline Information Center. Just a few moments while I review your question, please.
SEI POL Gene: How may I assist you today?
Mahman: I cannot log into my account after changing my password
Mahman: I am certain I am entering it correctly.
Mahman: I'd like a password reset.
SEI POL Gene: For security reasons, we are unable to address your account issues without first verifying your identification. Please respond with the following information:
    SEI POL Gene: PlayOnline ID
    Full Real Name
    Birthdate
    Complete Mailing Address
    PlayOnline Registration Code
Current Credit Card information, first 4 and last 4 digits only.
Mahman: [Insert my personally identifiable information here]
Mahman: [Insert my personally identifiable information here]
Mahman: I don't have my PlayOnline registration code with me at the moment
SEI POL Gene: Do you still have access to the code?
Mahman: It's in the book that I bought the software with, and I have no idea where that is.
SEI POL Gene: So the codes are lost, correct?
    Mahman: correct
SEI POL Gene: In substitution of the PlayOnline registration code, we will need you to verify the first four numbers and last four numbers of the previous credit card on the account please.
Mahman: [Insert my personally identifiable information here]
Mahman: i'm lucky i remember that i guess
    SEI POL Gene: Perfect.
SEI POL Gene: I am going to give you an exception for not having the registration code. I do have to let you know that if that registration code is ever verified in the future along with the other information provided, it will be required to be verified along with the rest of the information from that point forward.
Mahman: Is there any way you can provide me with what the registration code is? Because I have no way of knowing it anymore.
SEI POL Gene: [Insert my new password which I changed anyway] is your new PlayOnline password.
SEI POL Gene: Unfortunately we can not provide the code, but now that you have the exception, you will not need it.
Mahman: Oh, I see what you mean.
Mahman: If I ever do find it though, they will expect me to have it from then on?
    SEI POL Gene: Correct.
    Mahman: one second
    Mahman: Success.
Mahman: I have another question for you.
    SEI POL Gene: Sure.
Mahman: This situation came about as a result of me trying to change my password to a more secure one.
Mahman: I used special characters such as @ and *
Mahman: I did some research and some community members have said they have the same problem when they try to use special characters.
Mahman: They are allowed to change to a password that has special characters, but then are locked out after that password has been saved
SEI POL Gene: Those characters do not work. The best thing to do is to use upper and lower case letters and numbers.
Mahman: is there any plan to allow special characters in the passwords in the future? for added security?
SEI POL Gene: That has been something that is being looked into and we are hoping that it will be implemented soon.
Mahman: I hope so too. I know the community would greatly appreciate the opportunity to add more security to their passwords, especially in light of recent hackings.
    SEI POL Gene: I agree.
SEI POL Gene: Hopefully it will be added shortly.
Mahman: All right, that's all that I needed help with.
SEI POL Gene: Thank you for visiting PlayOnline Chat support, Mahman! Take care and hope to see you online!
    Mahman: Bye

Ahh good to hear that you got your stuff changed with no issue, and also that they are considering the extra characters to be used.
