This. I've never thought being a RDM was terribly difficult, but I never got any complaints (actually some compliments) so I assumed most RDMs were competent.

Holy shit, that opinion changed when I started leveling WHM. Good lord, I didn't know RDMs could be so shitty, I guess that I just assumed everyone else was capable of performing RDM duties like I was. Wow, was I ever wrong. Apparently RDM is more complicated than I had originally thought. Some people should stick to easy jobs like MNK.

i find a large difference in playing skill on rdm.

in most instances they're pretty capable, but the ones that suck just stick with you.

i have a 75rdm "mule" account i use to move those lowbie parties along. i find little difficulty keeping haste on like 3-4 dd/tank and myself refreshed outside the party while doing my jobs inside the party as well. idk what's wrong with ppl who only have to deal with rdm inside the party :/

It's not that hard for me.

75% of the time I am dual boxing when on RDM with my other account, either on THF or RNG, and with yarnball plugin, it's pretty easy. Just time the hastes and refresh(s) around what I have to do on my alt to keep the cycle going smoothly.
Although I do have the optimal casting gear for Haste/Refresh, so that there is no down time in between alternating the spells, I still fail to see where a RDM would have problems, even without the best fast cast gear.

RDM isn't that hard of a job but I think the harder a situation becomes the more a RDM has to do which is untrue of a lot of other jobs, some jobs just get to keep focusing on one objective for the most part where a RDM may have to keep an eye on multiple things now.

For merit parties if you can't keep a simple Haste rotation and keep yourself refreshed then you fail, quit the job now.

Ground kings are easy too, just have to keep a refresh rotation, the mob enfeebled and your party alive. If you get links like Darters, Manticores and so on then it changes a bit, you gotta try and help with sleep control and keeping the BLM's alive while they handle the links.

Ouryu was a little different for me. I was responsible for keeping both elementals slept and silenced, my BLM's refreshed and alive, the Nin/Dnc handling the worms hasted and cured when needed. There was much more to do here then in a normal situation but it wasn't overwhelming.

One thing I see a lot of RDM's suck at is CS Stunning. I've seen it happen too many times where they fuck up on Suzzy and heard of it happening a number of times on KV. I don't get it, what's so hard about CS Stun?

BLMs should be keeping themselves alive at Ouryu. If they are stupid enough to keep nukeing after SS wears and can't just back off and re-apply, they deserve to die for the lulz.

    1. They lag.
    2. They spam too fast, with Jupiter's Staff and stuns overlap.
    3. They use Jupiter's Staff and try to macro-time it. They fail and shit goes off.
    4. They use Dark Magic skill, fast cast, haste gear instead of -enmity on shit that'll never resist a single stun, pull hate and eventually get killed.
    5. They use Dark Magic skill, fast cast, haste gear instead of -enmity on shit that'll never resist a single stun, pull hate, start running away(or in circles, OMG OMG ITS COMING AFTER ME GUYS VOKE VOKE!!) and eventually get other people killed.
    6. They run out of MP.
    7. Stun > Chainspell failure.

    etc. etc.

When they should simply use Earth/Terra's Staff, -enmity gear and use the menu.

    Lol, seen that happen before.

At KV one time had a DRK Stun just as I used CS so my first Stun had no effect and he ended up getting an Earthbreaker off that stunned me for what felt like forever. Lucky as soon as I was unstunned I was able to continue, thought we were gonna loose that one for sure but told those I was on vent with to use Stun or a bash of some sort if they had it available.

This is how it was for me as well. The good Rdms were few and far betweem. When leveling Smn, I had a party behind Moongate where I was main healer for a Pld. Rdm rarely refreshed me. When leveling Nin in LoO, the Rdm wouldn't haste me.

If you're a mage and you fail in Torama camps be a WHM or an RDM then you just either need to get better now or just quit the job..

OMG with the Chainspell Stun, I know ... good lord, I know. I didn't think it was so complicated but apparently it is quite difficult for some to grasp.

I've done the "timer not up" thing, not with Stun but some other spell, back when I was a newbie, but I learned from that, and if I know I'm going to be CSing ANYTHING, I will hold off on that spell until the CS is called.
