The majority of diet pills used to be incorporate and be called the ECA stack (ephedrine-caffeine-aspirin). Then, the FDA said, "Ok, maybe it isn't such a great idea to put ephedrine in your body." Ok, so the supplements companies replaced the ephedrine with ephedrine-free versions which typically included chemical precursors to ephedrine, which circumvented the ephedrine ban. (wrt ephedra/ephedrine being banned as a weight-loss/diet supplement, it's still okay for asthma)
The bottom line is most diet pills have a thermogenic effect - they raise the body's temperature and the chemicals in the pill has complementary properties to how the body's negative feedback system responds to the introduction of the pill. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECA_stack
A lot of the newer diet pills work in much the same way. I'd steer clear of them, personally, but I don't have any history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or valvular defects in my heart.
I'm sure you know better than to use Ephedra (and you probably couldn't find it if you wanted to). You don't want to die, do you?
Many diet pills have really high amounts of caffeine and other substances to the point where it can be dangerous.
Some diet pills give wrong impressions such as "You don't have to change your diet!" etc. which can lead to wasted money.
Diet pills can also dehydrate you or cause other unhealthy side effects.
A person who loses weight with diet pills have a high chance of regaining the weight plus more.
Too much weight loss at one time will screw up your metabolism and could easily lead to more weight gain in the long run.
Malnutrition or too many calories burned compared to intake can screw up (or stop) your menstrual cycle (but pills alone probably wont do that but will make it more likely).
Diet pills can inhibit vitamin absorption.
Many companies claim to give great results, but when tested by independent researches, have been shown to give virtually no results at all (hydroxycut, for example and yet it's still one of the top five selling diet pills as far as I know). Your wallet will lose weight MUCH faster than you.
Ali, a product that's *supposedly* designed for women, actually works much better in men and is more likely to lead to unhealthy results in women (heart attacks and high blood pressure, among other things).
Diet pills can weaken your immune system.
Diet pills are pretty unregulated for the most part (that's why they get away with putting in dangerous amounts of stuff).
I think I mentioned that they can be dangerous to your heart, but I want to reiterate that.

Your best bet would be the simple advice given earlier. Calories out > calories in.
The best way to make sure your weightless is healthy would be to make sure your calorie deficit is about 500 per day (no more than 1000). A pound of fat contains 3,500 calories, so at 500 calories per day, you'll burn a pound of fat per week. Of course, when you diet you're likely to lose lean body tissue (mainly muscle) as well as fat. A -500 calorie per day program will minimize muscle loss so that you're losing mostly fat. Losing too many calories per day runs the risk of destroying your metabolism and stopping your diet dead in it's tracks (and causing more weightgain in the long run) as well as other harmful side effects and stopping your menstrual cycle (Lbelle is a girl, right?). Going too high (like much higher than 1k) will likely cause you to lose a lot of muscle mass.
If you really want to lose weight, you should talk to your doctor about this. Also, see if you can get your metabolism tested. My school tests our metabolism for like 20 dollars.
Just use the placebo effect to full effect. Buy a pack of tic tacs but spend 20 dollars on it to make you really think they are diet pills. Use a marker to write 'Diet' on the pack and then take one a day, I guarantee it will work.
Hm I guess I just want an appetite suppressant and not a "diet pill" then, if the real goal is to just eat less. The finger + throat = success version doesn't work THAT great btw. dododododo.
I was also wondering how food diaries help in the weight loss process. I don't get by how writing down all the bad shit you eat helps you be healthier. I mean, do you just write down everything and then evaluate your terrible eating habits? I know I don't eat that bad of stuff, but would this help at all in the process? I think it would be annoying as fuck to keep track of calories and the like, so...I don't know. >_> I feel like I'm making myself out to be a fat mess, but I'm really not, lol. BG just always has so many pro tips in gen section!
Just reiterating the warning about Ephedra, whoever recommended you use that is a complete idiot. Use it and you WILL die if you keep using it, it's just a matter of time.
In short, diet pills are either dangerous, placebos, or just stimulants. Most of the stimulant versions have been banned though (back in the day they were essentially amphetamines).
Food diaries are meant to help you gague your metabolism as it changes throughout the course of your regimen. They're only useful if you're really diligent about keeping track over the course of months.
just gradually drop your daily intake, get a step monitor, stay active and away from the computer/tv, and try to get as much muscle built up while youre burning fat as possible (metabolism)
make sure to stay away from the obvious nonos and always look at the calories from fat from whatever youre eating, a lot of people ignore that. it should always make up 30% or less (pref. less) of the overall calories per serving to be in the healthy range, but if you're dieting try and shoot for 25% or less, 15-20 pref
they actually have this on a sign, WITH PICTURES, at the 24hr fitness I go to. Ill see if I can find it.

Food diary was helpfull for me, it just allowed me to see with my own eyes, and remember which food were high in fat, sodium, calories, ect., kinda the "big picture" effect. The next time I picked up those foods I knew what to expect in advance and could reduce/increase my serving, feel ok/guilty about eating it.
Kinda, having your log and visualizing your eating habits i.e. calorie intake, will help you make a logical assessment. Which in your case is consume less and exercise more, as simple as that. I used it but for the opposite reasons. My weight was 111 lbs. (5'6), and yeah, my daily calorie intake was around 700 or less. So that helped me evaluate and make improvements. Right now I'm @ 125 lbs. just shy away from 5 more, my goal.
Do you exercise, btw and how often? If you live a fairly sedentary life, that ain't gonna help ya, no matter if you take them diet pills.
Food diaries work best when you write in them while jogging or doing sit ups.
Had great results with tetrazene. Really didn't drop much weight but it got me pretty lean. I personally use es-50 but a lot of people swear by extreme. These aren't magic pills, they don't do the work for you. They are just an aid, you still need to keep a clean diet and hit the weights/cardio hard. I would suggest checking out the forums on bodybuilding.com or prosource there is some great info there on how to stack these with other supplements and what not. I order all of my supps from prosource they are very reliable and their prices beat the hell outta GNC.

I think the biggest point with food diaries is a lot of people aren't honest with themselves with how much they're eating. With the food diaries, you're faced to keep honest with yourself by writing the food you're eating, the time you're eating it, the portion size, why you're eating it (are you hungry/bored/feeling tired?), and how you feel before and after. You want to try to be as comprehensive as possible. It will help you to analyze trends, for instance, maybe you eat a good breakfast, then you have class, and don't get to eat again for 6 hours, where you gorge yourself since it's been so long since you had something to eat.
That kind of thing. Good luck if you're deciding to keep one. Basically you do it for 1 week minimum, start looking at the trends, then try to modify it to achieve your goals.
That reminds me of something I was reading about how when researchers restricted people to the amount of calories they claim to have already been taking in anyways, they started losing weight. It's not that people purposely lie about their caloric intake, it's that people just have a tendency to underestimate the amount of calories they take unless they keep a diary.
Oh, and I forgot to mention how useful a kitchen scale is while dieting. If you can weigh your portions, you have a much better idea of exactly how many calories you're getting.
You're looking for Hoodia I believe. It's not that great I don't think... There are other ways to suppress your appetite and boost your metabolism so that you have less calories in then you burn.
Try eating very small portions of food severallllll times a day... like an apple, a yogurt, some string cheese, an egg, etc... about 5-10 small meals a day. At first it's difficult to do cause you are eating even when you aren't hungry, but for some people it works.
Drink water, add the crystal-lite flavor packets if you don't like the taste of water... it'll hold down your appetite as well. Eggs Eggs Eggs, hard boiled eggs, eat them alot... Tunafish/Chickensalad/eggsalad, just alot of chicken period. You don't necessarily have to eat small tiny bits of food to not be hungry, one of the people I used to box with would eat whole rotissery chickens from the supermarket at least twice a day, another example is micheal phelp's diet... Not that you should eat like that, but as long as it's less Intake then you are Burning, you'll lose weight, and not be starved malnourished or unhealthy from it.
Just eating 500 less calories a day will make you lose 20lbs in 2 months...if you stopped eating "as much" that's why you lost weight, not pills.Alli isn't nearly as bad as the media makes it sound, you do have runny shit when you go to the bathroom if you eat wrong. But Ive never leaked my pants and I've been on it for 2 months now (lost 20 lbs so far), I still eat alot of bad foods just not as much as i used too.
Fuck, everytime I start school I lose 20lbs in the first two weeks, fucking huge campus forces me to walk 2 solid hours a day.
Also, one of the big "secrets" to maintaining low weight is building muscle mass, and if you're already pretty over-weight, you have a big advantage in developing it, since the biggest factor in skinny people having trouble is they don't eat enough(where you already have a strong fat reserve to burn). The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn resting, and well the actual anerobic exercises don't burn as much as cardio/aerobic, benefits you get from anerobic increase the calories you burn doing *everything* else in your day, even sleeping.
Fat and Muscle both have snowball/exponetial effects, the fatter you are the easier it is to get even fatter, and the more muscular you are the easier it is to stay that way.
Absolute best thing you can take for "dieting medication" that will suppress your appetite is cocaine or amphetamines (either prescription or not) like Adderall IR, Desoxyn or meth if that's your flavour.
adderall and the prescription shit is the safest by far though, not addicting either. I wouldn't recommend coke or meth.
To give you all an idea, I'm 5'1 and about 110, so again I'm not like some huge girl here. I think I understand the one thing I'm supposed to be from this that people are wanting me to, it's just annoying because I'm pretty terrible with numbers. For example, someone said get 20-25% of calories from fat based on the serving, ugh, I don't even know how to do that.
I think for now I'll stay away from the pills though like you all suggested. I'm really glad I asked everyone for advice, cause like I thought, you guys are really helpful when it comes to this shit.
Again, don't want to lose a ton of weight just wanna tighten up a bit and thought that pills would be an easy way to help me get to this.
you should really eat breakfast (if you haven't) if you want to lose a bit a weight. your metabolism shuts down when your sleeping so you're gonna need to eat something to wake it up again. special k or fiber one cereal are really good for breakfast. in between breakfast and lunch, have a little snack. banana, yogurt, power/cereal bar or whatever you want that's also healthy(special k bars tastes good). nothing too heavy. something like a salad would be good for lunch. if it's anything else, make sure it's not too heavy. you want to make sure you're only taking in small portions every 3-4 hours. doing this will boost your metabolism, which'll burn more for you. same goes for the snack after lunch and then dinner.
if you're working out, you should definitely work towards building muscles. if you're worried that you're gonna turn out too ripped, don't worry, you wont. women can't get as ripped as men unless you're taking steroids or something that has the same effect. having more muscles is more beneficial because muscles actually burn off calories even if you're not doing much. fat just sits there doing absolute shit.
also go for protein to build muscle and fiber to get the shit out of your system(fiber one)
