Just remember that 1s and 0s is just high and low voltage!

Being your first year of university I'd really think about it a lot more, you're still in the phase where you probably haven't developed solid study habits, or gotten "used" to the settings and expectations.

I was scared as fuck by my freshmen linguistics courses(which are surprisingly hard, you just jump right into the hard science of it), I got rather unimpressive grades, but I passed, audited the course for a better grade and then I joined the honors program.
Got easier from there and now I'm 1/2 way finished with my PHD in the subject, if I had listened to advice people gave ME like "if you don't understand IPA then that's a sign you're in the wrong major"...I would of gave up and done something lame.

People say things like "if you don't get X Y Z that's a sign you're in the wrong major" and that is not true. Some people just take longer for everything to snap into place.

Don't be a quitter until you're absolutely positive you made a mistake.

Man, I got a business degree in 2004, its the worst mistake I have ever made. My degree is a BS in Business Admin., finding a job is terrible. I would go with something more specialized.

The guy that does my investments (401k, IRA, etc...) tried to tell me when I got out of high school, if I wanted to do business to get an accounting degree. (The investments were a present from my grandparents.) The reason behind this was because if you have an accounting degree, you can do what most other people with a business degree can, but for the most part, you can't find a job doing what an accountant does with a regular business degree.

PM me if you want to visit about this more in depth.

Isn't it too late to switch classes by now? I went to UNLV and you could only add/drop classes during the first week iirc.

I believe he stated in the OP he was a freshman at UNLV which I read as University of Las Vegas.

Maybe he is from the Bay area, lived there with his parents then moved to LV to go to school?

I'm assuming he's taking core classes as well and would probably just drop major courses.

You can always drop them, but by now you wouldn't get refunded. Something like halfway you can do it without getting a 0 for the course.

Forget this shit, party and enjoy yourself, your life after graduation is going to suck no matter what you do. You'll end up working some bullshit corporate job in a field totally unrelated to what you studied making barely any money getting raises bit by bit until you finally achieve a standard of living you can be comfortable with just in time to keel over from old age.

So yeah, electrical engineering, business, psychology, whatever gets you off for the next four years, it doesn't really matter.

I'd ignore this if you have a spine and aren't stupid, college was rough at first for me like I was struggling in the starting java courses but if you stick to it it'll get easier. I'm much stronger now and I get all A's, mostly thanks to all the research I do which makes classwork look like trashy busywork. Also, you'll be getting offers while in school, I've already been approached by companies like Conoco Phillips to start interning with them and working with them after graduation.

I think the point was that life sucks and then you die, no matter how good your education is, so you may as well live it up.

Actually Electrical Engineers have a 99.999999% employment rate in their field(not an exaggeration, many schools show a 100% employment rate for EE grads). Chances of working in a field "unrelated" is near zero unless you want to.

Assuming you like the work(and EE covers a LARGE range of jobs), it's pretty much guaranteed success because there's a massive shortage in the field, and it's one of the hardest engineering fields to study.

    As an example.

#1-a) Open your school book outside of class (if not, wikipedia is usually helpful). This is a first year class, and Computer Science people aren't ahead of you. They basically started at the same point. In the worst case, they spent a couple hour on it in another class, nothing you couldn't catch up.
    b) Go to the school library and take a book on the topic. You will be a shitty engineer, or a shitty anything if you can't learn by yourself. You can't depend on your teacher for anything at those level

#2 Binary maths and truth table are about as simple as first grade math. i can't imagine anyone needing more than 3h to understand the essential

#3 It's normal to regret your choice...most people went through this. However, most of the time, people regret it for the wrong reasons. They will be unhappy no matter where they go.
