Tidus - needed a good slap
The bit that scared me away from X-2 was the Wakka sprogging thing... that would mean they'd had to have sex and that is just the grossest thought ever.

Quina. ugh. I just remember that character having no real point and just being annoying.
Algus from FFT was real easy to hate, but that's because he was a well-made character.
Slippy from starfox. that guy sucked and was super annoying.
children in Fallout2 that would steal from you. you couldn't just kill them unless you wanted the bad karma/title.
Tidus, Wakka, basically every FFX character.
Raijin from FF8. Ya know? Just like Wakka, ya know? Ugh.
I never really minded Quina that much. Sure, he had some annoying dialogue, but overall I thought he was decent.
I actually really like Rinoa too D: I'm replaying ff8 at the moment and I don't really see why people hate her. Same with Selphie, neither are bad at all, in my opinion.
Restricting my choices to FF:
Gilgamesh, Kefka, Ultros, and Balthier.
IN BEFORE THE FANBOYS.
But in all honesty (although I do find Balthier bothering for some reason), I'm surprised no one said Penelo (unless I missed it). She serves less of a purpose than Vaan, and isn't funnehz like Quina. Maybe it's because she doesn't talk much.
She is pretty damn annoying, but no, she isn't the most annoying.Sophia in Star Ocean 3, actually, I hate all those character types
The item creation girl? No way in hell.Welch Vineyard - Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
Have you two forgotten? The most annoying character in that game, dare I say in all of existence is Farleen.
She is the purple haired one in this clip:

She is even more annoying in the English one.
Farleen is annoying, but she's never in your party...with you for the whole game. Dare I say that even if her voice sucks, she probably wouldn't whine as much as Sophia and Miria.
Tidus, definitely. Yuna is a close second. Vaan a close 3rd.
Squall was abrasive, but at least he wasn't (as much of) an obnoxious pretty-boy and had suffered at least 1 asskicking prior to the start of the game. 'Course, I played FF8 around the time Gundam Wing was on TV, and it wasn't much of a stretch to compare him to the similar, but substantially more badass Heero Yuy.
Side Note: With the exception of the two main characters, the voice acting in FFX was actually very good (or at least better than 12). The WRITING is the failing point of FFX.
FFX's voice acting was in no way better than FFXII's.
Rose from MGS2, she couldn't seem to grasp that Raiden might be more concerned about how he's going to survive rather than remembering a stupid anniversary.
I'm not going to mention rose because this is in the RPG Discussion subforum (if it weren't she'd easily be near or at the top)
But...
Princess Fillet from Brave Fencer Musashi, FUCK YOU BITCH, I don't even want to save you.
I disagree.Spoiler: show
All of the characters in this game. (I've never played this game, but jesus christ super car oh god my fucking ears this voice acting is horrible youtube link).

Spoiled princess stereotype a little... I barely remember anything about her, except that was a huge bitch.
Oh, what the fuck. I've seen amateur stuff sound better than this.
And LD, I don't understand how you can say FFXII's voice acting was bad. It was probably one of the less artificial voice acting I heard in rpg, or game.
Backstory, some guy got his kids to do the voice acting.
I don't think so, I thought the story actually picked up after the half way mark. The voice work in general was a lot more consistant than FFX. Vaan and Penelo compared to Tidus and Yuna are a step up. I never found anything unbearable or awkward to listen to, the voice work was believable and sounded good. The portions of VA work in Pharos, Grand Crystal and the final dungeon really sold me about how good they were. Powerful and convincing, full of emotion. It really was amazing. Nothing about FFX really caught me like this. I remember the lines just being read, even if Wakka pulled off the voice, it was still bad and annoying. They could have made someone west-indian looking that didn't sound like a twat.
Most of it I guess ties down to how much you like the characters, actually the only character in FFXII who didn't sell me in the VA department was Fran. Luckily she never spoke much.
This, at least, I can agree with.
Well, this is complicated....
I disliked Tidus and Yuna, and the supporting cast, while well performed, were mostly props; constructs moved in the background, serving only to create the illusion of movement (except Auron, the only GOOD character). The fact that I didn't mind their complete uselessness in the plot has to be a product of either decent writing or great acting. I didn't dislike any of the FFXII characters and they all contributed something to the plot, except Penelo, other than being the cardboard cut out, spunky-yet-responsible love interest for the main male protagonist. Therein lies my biggest problem with FFXII: The main characters are a bunch of uninspired clichés. The boy adventurer, the seasoned adventurer, the subdued and sagely wise-woman, the usurped/displaced monarch, the displaced/dishonored knight, the naive brother of the megalomaniacal older brother. Yea, there are only 64 plots and thus only so many different characters, but FFX at least made an attempt to stir things up (a sickeningly sweet shitty one, but the attempt was made). You can only act your way out of so many bags before you're stopped by the sacred walls of the script. I'm willing to admit that I mostly rate FFXII's acting lower due to the script, but considering the fact that FFX's was substantially more shallow and less...lets say involved, it couldn't simply be the writing that killed the experience for me.
Makoto from Enchanted Arms wins hands down.
Also, Beat from The World Ends With You, I found myself struggling through his dialog, he just annoyed the hell out of me.
Yeah, I agree with the cliches in FFXII. But being a cliche doesn't mean the character is bad, like being different or unique doesn't make a character good. I like both X and XII. I think the uselessness of the characters in X is true, but it didn't matter much cause the story was interesting and quite good. Whereas XII is basically Star Wars for the better part.
I think in general you're relating the VA work with the characters/plot. As straight up VA work goes, I think XII is better. As far as characters and story goes, that's anyone's argument.
Way late, but someone mentioned Grandia. I adore the game as one of my favorites ever, but I absolutely can not stand Sue. She redeems herself in the end when you realize how hard she's trying, but for the rest of the game it's stupidly annoying. Feena is one of the few "strong female" leads that I don't find annoying, though.
Etna, Aurica from Ar Tonelico, and Kid from Chrono Cross are also really annoying to me.
For guys, definitely Tidus and Vaan. I'm also annoyed by the "I'm experienced and know everything" cliche that most people tend to like. Snake in MGS2 and 4 comes to mind, as does Auron and Balthier. I like it when my characters are still learning and make mistakes, but not totally ignorant.
Gonna have to go with Eiko or w/e her name was from FF9.
Single-handedly made me put down the game and walk away for long periods of time (months) before coming back and realizing why I hated the game.
I never finished it.
Also, anyone who says that Stupei: Ace Defective is annoying is a communist.
