I think the only reason that alexandrites are going down a bit is because people are realizing what a load of shit doing all that work and spending 150 mil is just not worth it. I think at this point most people still think SE may either lower the amount needed or add alexandrites to other events. If the quest remains the same there will be enough people who are hardcore or retarded enough (see the mass amount of people who upgrade the first 2 stages of relic) to be able to get that kind of gil and the price will stay static I'm thinking +5k seems very likely at the moment. I don't think the supply available is more than dynamis currency and you need more of it, basically we're just waiting now to see how many people have the gil or are stupid enough to start the aelxandrite section of the quest.

Sometimes I wonder if an appeal to pity is sufficient for a discount, but then I remember that the pity-to-gil exchange rate is terrible.

Not really sure what the meaning behind your statement is but it's simple economics if nobody is upgrading the demand is going to be far less then the supply. At this point I don't think there's nearly as many people who think upgrading mythics is worth it compared to upgrading relics. If it stays like this long enough most likely people will just get over it and the hardcore of the hardcore will start making mythics along with a bunch of idiots who'll collect like 2-3k alexs and realize they don't have the time/gil/will to finish.

If you think I'm asking for pity you couldn't be further from the truth. I don't have the time or patience to collect 30k alexandrites and to be honest I can't understand how anyone that actually has a job, family, and friends could possibly complete that task outside of 2 years work. I really wouldn't even mind if 2 yrs of playing FFXI = mythic but I think the fact that the whole quest was based around group events and then they added a retarded currency requirement that boils down to getting yourself gil or forcing people to give their alexandrites to you for nothing.

I was trying to tie in the dwindling price of alexandrite with the absurd quota, like if you could convince a seller to accept less by saying, "Hey, you know, 30000 is a pretty big and stupid number. You should give me a break!" Drive the price lower, faster, simply on the grounds that the development team hates prospective mythic weapon wielders.

But I suppose I misread you since you were talking strictly economic forces.

On Asura, there aren't any alexandrites for less than 10k in bazaars and some still as high as 20k.

Right now I can't even sell these for 4k on Phoenix. There seems to be very little demand for them. But dynamis coins are still high 12k each. I guess most people here don't think mythics are worth the time and effort.

Yesterday I saw someone selling them for 2k... I know a guy in my linkshell has been trying to sell them for 4k and he hasn't had that much luck.

The demand only falls on a handful of people who realize how ridiculous collecting 30k pieces are going at 5k+ rate. With all the other requirements and that fact that collectively over an entire server 30k pieces is gonna take a good part of a year to even exist.

The smart ones will boycott the price til they drop to their desired range. 2-3k would be that zone.

Carbuncle has a very active shout JP salvage scene. My guess is every day 2000 alex are created - so it would only take liek 15 days for that amount.

On the other hand we have very rich JPs who won´t allow the price to drop.

Can you store these somewhere? I am holding them for my salvage group and they are piling up quick causing massive inventory problems

Assuming they are willing to trade them to a non-refundable rat, that requires you to jump through hoops to start the quest in the first place. (namely 3 tau beastmen kings)

I think he means Paparoon. After you finish the initial quest with Naja (An Imperial Heist), you move on to the one with Paparoon in Nashmau (Duties, Tasks, and Deeds) who's the one that actually wants the alexandrite.

I believe you can turn them over time in any amount you wish. Unlike storage though, I'm pretty sure he doesn't give them back. So you might want to makes sure you are very sure about this before ya do. It's kinda like why you shouldn't start a relic until you have the funds to at least take it to stage 4. Unless you are absolutely sure about the weapon, and you know you'll complete the Einherjar and Nyzul Isle bid within the amount of time before you plan to quit FFXI, you might want to hold on to them. A decently prepared muled with a few pieces of furniture designed for massive storage can hold half of the 30,000 alexandrites you need.

Or if your problem is something like this:
