Pld/rdm Tanking Ouryu

Is it possible in a manaburn situation? Where Blm's rotate ES sleep order after bringing him to the ground? I want to fight Ouryu soon with my LS but we have no well geared Rdm's for Tanking, and our Pld's who do have MDB gear I fear might lose hate as /nin.

Honestly how hard does he hit? and could a Pld/rdm survive through a few round of nukes from the blm's till Ouryu is brought down and ES slept.

Any feedback would be appreciated

you got aegis? if not, it's just better to /nin

use earth resist set up, pld get quite a few access to them. 150~ resist from gear, full bar merit, carol u should be fine taking hits from magic

Tanked it as PLD/RDM quite a few times. No Aegis, no earth resist setup.

It does hit pretty hard (around 300 per hit, occasionally a 100~ damage Enstone kicks in too) and might double attack, but shield blocks as well as Sentinel should be more than enough to survive by the time it gets slept.

As long as you have MP even without an optimal MDB setup it's virtually impossible to die as PLD/RDM when it's flying, so try to work around that. CORs using magus and evoker rolls are pretty useful for that fight, although a SCH is just as good because of their MP efficiency and Stoneskinga.

I dont know why you would sub nin for this, its only going to be awake on the ground for maybe 4-5 swings with this strat. macro full shield gear when it lands and just keep yourself alive until sleep, then you can switch back to enmity and carry on building hate while its sleeping. only ever subbed rdm with sleep nuke strat and it works well if you have your blms sleep order organised.

when hes in the air i have around -20% magic dmg taken before shell, dont do it enough to bother with earth resist set but this brings it to around 100 a hit if i remember right. even without the -dmg gear its easy to survive the damage in the air, just make sure your hp is topped up asap when he lands and you should be fine

Do not listen to this. /NIN is a horrible sub for manaburn unless you have Full Earth set and even then, /RDM is a ton better. /NIN just doesn't provide the hate you need to keep Ouryu off your BLMs, unless you can fully mitigate the air damage.

Our main PLD for this uses a mix of MDT%- and MDB+ and does a great job. Yes, you need to be a bit careful when it lands, make sure your healers are ready to keep the PLD up and your BLMs Sleep quickly.

You do not need Aegis or Earth Set(though either would help). Our PLD never really comes close to dying and we beat O2 in about 19-22m usually. We typically only use one PLD as well now, though I would reccommend two if you aren't experienced with the fight.

One of our Aegisless PLDs used to sub /rdm for this. Worked fairly well, never in any real danger.

Isn't Ouryu also immune to Stun?

Believe so since hes an Earth Wyrm. But Stun is pretty solid hate even when its resisted.

doesnt matter if its immune , hate will be build up.

anyways , Ouryu you can tank with pld/drg too if u wish because you are sleeping him on the ground , the only thing you need to be doing is sentential > repraisal order for each time he hits the ground , during air ur MDB and MDT set up should be enough to survive.

I never understood why plds were so hard up on /nin for this fight.
Don't get me wrong, I used to do it myself.
I just never got hate off my co-tank who was pld/war.
I've used pld/drk for JoL and it was very effective but pld/rdm should be really good too. With sentenel recast merits you're able to pop it right as he lands every time anyway.

Be brave, try new things.
We let our whm sub nin and tank it once spamming barspells.

I'm assuming PLD/DRG was meant for the Haste gear, but with Marches/FastCast/Haste and normal PLD gear you shouldn't have a problem capping recasts with a more beneficial sub like RDM.

Ahh, ok. Using /DRG for the Haste is getting popular so you never know, lol. I'm working on DRG soon for melee RDM with DB spam XD.
