My LS takes in a party of melee to kills the worms. We have a RDM sleep the elementals, and the melee take them out when they start resisting.

I've never gone in with more then 1 tank, waste of a spot imo. The same for a melee PT.
We usually go
PLD/RDM
WHM/BLM
RDM/WHM
BRD/WHM
BLM/RDM
BLM/RDM
BLM/RDMx4
COR/WHM
RDM/WHM
BLM/RDMx4

The 2 rdms handles the elementals, and if your blms arent totally retarded they can sleep or silence a worm that comes to close.
Typically a 15-20 min fight at the most. We have aegis pld's, but its no difference with or without. Also never use earth-resist, mdb and -% works just fine. The only thing that really matters is that your sleeporder is solid and your members actually knows how to sleep.
I've tried PLD/WAR, PLD/NIN, and PLD/RDM, and for our setup, which sounds exactly like yours, PLD/RDM came out far on top. I use an earth resist setup in the air, and the two paladins rotate sentinel each wake, which covers the vulnerable period pretty nicely. With Reprisal it's even less to worry about. Between an earth resist set, bartstonra, carol, and phalanx, you can expect to be getting hit for zero in the air in no time.
I've done this several times with both PLD/NIN, PLD/RDM, and almost any other configuration you can think of. All of them can work fine with proper support. If you look at it in terms of sole hate generation, then PLD/RDM wins hands down. However, I would actually opt for PLD/NIN(or RDM/NIN, NIN/RDM, or NIN/DRK for that matter). The primary reason is to eliminate the chance of ever being hit with a TP move. It's uncommon and can be prevented altogether if you have mages who are on top of things with the Sleep order. However, if Ouryu connects a few swings while it's on the ground, the possibility of it using a TP move is there. Horrid Roar when you only have one tank is fucking annoying. Either way, a good PLD/NIN can always keep hate over any BLM in this fight, so really the hate lost from not having RDM subjob shouldn't be much of a concern. You can cap it on PLD/NIN, it just takes a bit longer.
