If they follow the normal 18 months between expansions, then I could see this being the time they would announce the next expansion.

Actually, following usual SE protocol, we won't hear about the expansion pack until February, getting the actual Expansion pack sometime in June.

EDIT: Reason being the Expansion packs are not on an 18 month timer, but rather a 19 month timer. September (CoP) > April (ToAU) > November (WotG). The realease of the Expansion pack usually coincides with the quarterly version update, and the announcement for the Expansion Pack is usually the first "Peek" into the upcoming version update. Assuming the Version update is in March, we can expect the peek to be revealed sometime in February, -possibly- January. This is because the update before the Expansion Pack usually has a teaser or two. (Wildcat badges for ToAU, NPCs talking about the past for WotG, not sure if CoP ever had one.) You almost definitely won't get the announcement of the new Expansion Pack.

Besides, when have they ever done that in the U.S.? As I recall Expansion Packs are almost always announced in Japan, and then the U.S. gets some special little peeks at the upcoming stuff at one of their festivals.

Also, boo for Rochester being the only East Coast event. I would go to Fan Fest if they ever had another one some where within a 10 hour drive of N.J.

Back at the Fanfest in 06 I was chatting up a GM and he said the reason they don't like doing events anywhere but in Cali is because of transporting all of the computer equipment. When they do these events they set up a Moogle(correct me if I'm wrong) server and run the in game content straight from there. I can imagine moving an entire FFXI server worth of computer equipment in addition to all the other computers,etc that they lugged around with them would be a time consuming and expensive process.

tl;dr SE is frugal and doesn't want to do an event across the country from their US HQ.

In my opinion it easily could be a sequel to "Bahamut's Lagoon" but...it also has the possibility of being an expansion espically with Fan Fest in December. Annouce at TGS to JPs first and then actually show some content in December? Either way we should know which when TGS hits, if its a completely new game they'll likely annouce it.

"Lord of Vermillion", could be something however it being regeistered back in 07 makes me wonder if something that got canned, either way I hope this Fan Fest reveals some worthwhile information other than the plans for WoG Part 2 where we have to pay another €30 for the actual content >.>;

To be honest I don't care WHAT they announce at Fanfest. I'm more interested in simply attending the event, hanging out with friends, and geeking out about FFXI.

This looks neat.

Least it wasn't the hotel restaurant across from where fan fest was at (but downstairs). The food was nice but the whole time there it felt like the ceiling was gonna cave in any sec. There was a weight lifting expo/competition or whatever in the other large room across from the fan fest lobby and they kept dropping huge weights on the floor. We promptly got baggies for our food and left lol

Yeah, and it was a little weird to have all these buff looking motherfuckers walking around staring down the FF geeks. Breakfast bar cost 19.99 at that restaurant, too. Ridiculous.
