DLL file problems.

I've been having problems lately with my computer (windows xp) when trying to run certain programs, specifically no CD cracks.

They'll say some .dll file is missing, and I'll go online, find it, and put it in C:\Windows\System32, and then I'll try it again, and it'll say another one is missing, and it goes on like this until one of the files is either un-findable, or the ones I get and insert don't work.

This latest one says "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\FileIO.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I was wondering if anyone knew if this was problem with no CD cracks, or if something is wrong with my windows, and what I can do to fix it.

Most no-CD cracks are in the form of executables or dlls that you drop in the program's installation directory. Dll files in the system32 is a really dangerous way of going about it, but anyway.

Disclaimer: I'm mostly taking a stab in the dark:

Normally when you add a dll to the system32 folder you need to register it before you can use it as a command (which I assume is part of how no CD cracks work) - go to a command prompt and type "regsvr32 filename.dll" and see if that helps at all.
