Ive done this with BLM BLM DRK about 5 times, just have the DRK nuke/sleep/stun and BLMs go upon their business of grav/nuke/sleep, its easy as can be

It's not really fair, but neither are a majority of aspects of FFXI. You've gotten a lot of great responses about how to complete this fight, but I think the bigger problem your facing is that you don't seem to feel that you should need a different job to do a fight for an item that your current job could kick major ass with. Unfortunately this is a common (although possibly unfair) situation. All you can really do to maximize your success is give yourself the most options for completing any given task, which unfortunately means you will have a better chance of getting a group together if you lvl up a job that can do better in the fight. This applies across a great variety of things in-game.
Or just find a RDM on your server who, like myself, will charge you to do it for you. I always find it funny that people are near-sighted enough to give me every dime they make from the lackluster drops that are always given, but meh, 50k in 15 minutes isn't a bad deal.
As easy as this fight is AKA almost any job can do it with a combination of Pld + Rdm or Blm + Rdm. Seriously get over it, if you don't have multiple jobs now, then it's probably a good time to start a new one.
the fact is that certain jobs have certain pluses and minuses. when a brd gets an equal shake soloing ix'aern as a blm does, then i'll consider buying your argument. or when a blm is as good a choice as a drk for a colibri party. or when a nin is as good at zerging stuff as a drk or sam. till then, consider lvling more jobs to increase your versatility. this will not be the last time you're going to run into a wall b/c the job you chose is not as effective as another job at a specific task, so you may as well get used to it.
I do this War War Rdm. I imagine it'd be easy to swap a war for a drk. You'll just need to be capable of taking hate when needed and letting go fairly easily also.
For almost everything you want to do in this game, job flexibility makes life easier.
DRK has a place at certain things and not at others. Same can be said for any job. If you only have one job do not expect to have the same flexibility as someone with 3.
This game doesn't dictate what you can and can't do. But if you're asking others to risk seals/xp/time for a non-optimal result, well, is that fair either?
For some players 60 BSTmen seals is a lot and I can imagine they don't want to increase their risk of not completing the BCNM by inviting a DRK. Hence, why you won't receive as many invites as a RDM would (Unless said RDM is known to be a bad player or thief). It's not so much of a grudge against DRKs, it's more of a "I want to secure the win" deal. Of course I'm not saying it's impossible for a DRK to win this BCNM, but it's more of a risk when that you can use that slot for someone who can near guarantee the win.
I don't see the problem, if you have some friends who are competent - I duo this as RDM and BLM somewhat regularly with no issue, and a DRK is an extra Sleep/Stun/Bind - sub /RDM and there's another Gravity, just make sure to have to appropriate gear so your casts don't get resisted. /shrug
Now granted, not everyone's all into that, but don't expect to go into this as a DRK and melee at all. Or.. any job.. melee, at all.![]()
Anyone who tells you drk can't do this bcnm is a complete idiot. Drk/thf, rdm/whm and pld/war is one of the absolute best setups there is for this. I've done it over 50 times this way and almost always win in under 6 minutes. Just ta guillotine the pld every time you have tp and ta is up. You will eventually get hate towards the end because you will gain tp faster than your ta timer and have to guillotine sometimes without it, but the rdm should have plenty of mp and the mob is really easy to kite and/ or sleep if there is trouble. Just make sure as drk you stand behind the mob when you are not ta ws on the pld.
How about you level a mage job that is useful for the BC and not be a leech?
Yeah, when I do this BCNM, I'm always annoyed that the DD dares to do damage, and just leeches his way by doing that damage that my 150 dmg Vorpals can't put out.
To the OP: Get better friends who aren't retarded and will actually do the BCNM with you. Like someone said earlier up, PLD healer DD is an awesome setup. If you bring a WHM, they might need a Yag or two. If you bring a RDM, no sweat. I static this as PLD WHM DD with absolutely np.
This is true, it's easier and probably faster to make the 30-40m to buy one than it is to get the BC to actually drop it, but farming like that is hardcore, and if you craft a lot if can take an enormous amount of time to unload things. I don't have the time to farm like I used to, crafting and bazaaring overnight but most of the time I just log off before I get any crafting done, UIA is an easy 40-50 minute venture for me that goes like this:
/t Gaucho Kraken BC now?
/t Rikura Kraken BC NAO!
Change job, get orb, run to area, do BC x 3, get nothing.
The 60k per run from vendor trash is nice, equates to over 50k per hour spent on it, and the chance of a Kraken in addition to that is a good excuse to go do it.
Better than what I was going to say! (no wonder drks are stereotyped as emo kids who QQ about everything)
But yeah DRK can probably do the BC same as anyone else. I always do the BC BLMx2 RDM (or BRD), but that doesn't mean it can't be melee'd fairly easily, I just don't have the patience to try another strategy myself, cause manaburn works just fine too. I personally wouldn't take a DRK for that reason but that doesn't mean other groups won't (if they are in the habit of meleeing it that is). Just find some people who are willing to do it with you >.>
It really can't be that difficult to find others willing to do it with you. Not everyone in Final Fantasy that has Paladin and White Mage also has Black or Red Mage.
Was gonna make a thread for this but i'll put it in here:
How exactly does a rdm or blm solo this bcnm? I've trioed it as blm blm rdm, easy. Seen a vid on youtube of rdm and blm doing it, no problem. But i don't see how, when soloing, you could keep up with the damage needed. *Maybe* as rdm with refresh and convert, but i'm intrigued to know how blm does it.
Any advice on this? I have both rdm and blm to use for this, so i can use whichever is easiest.
