Did anyone pick this up yet? I need to head out to the store and pick it up this weekend sometime. Famitsu gave it a 38 out 40, so apparently it's just as good as the first one.

Better late than never...
I hope they upped the dubbing so that it matches the quality of Japanese voice acting.
Wow, nobody has any interest in this game at all? For shame.
Guys it's like Shenmue, you should play it
And it's only 29.99!
Wow i didn't see this thread.. i bough it the same day it was out. So much better than the first, now i don't have to wait like 1min for the fights to load up. So far this game and 1st one are my favorites, to bad they are short.
The one thing I don't like about Yakuza 2(or Yakuza for that matter) is that you can't change Kazuma's appearance at all. He's still wearing that same lame ass grey suit. I was shocked when I realized the game was subtitled. I was really expecting them to dub the dialogue again like they did in the first one. I'm only about two hours into it right now, Kazuma just went to the Omi clan's headquarters and then I had to go to work so I couldn't save it![]()
Not sure who exactly here picked this up, but if you haven't you're missing out on a magnificent story. I just finished it last night and there were so many plot twists at the end it was insane. Fantastic story, just like the first one.
I keep wanting to pick it up.
Do you need to play the first to enjoy/get Yakuza 2? I hear nothing but good things but trying to pinch pennies at the mo' but don't want to miss out on a good story.
No you don't need to play the first Yakuza to really enjoy the sequel. In the beginning of the the second one it will give you a fairly long recap that basically gives you the rundown of all the events in the original Yakuza.
It's also a fairly long game considering it's an action game. I played through and finished maybe 25% of the side quests and my playtime was twenty five hours. And for 29.99 you're not going to find too many games that have a story as engrossing as this.
Shogi made me want to stick my face in a woodchipper. Mahjong isn't bad if you know how to play, which I have only a basic understanding, so I lost quite a bit. Running the Cabaret Club was pretty fun.
Wintermute, I won't lie having played Yakuza before playing the sequel, things that happen early on affected me more than it would you. Since some of the events involve characters from the first one. There's a guy who spent the entire first game trying to kill you, who ends up being your friend. When I saw him in the cutscene I was like oooooh shit here we go. You won't have that reaction.
But don't let that scare you off. This could be the last truly great story released for the PS2. It's worth every penny.
There's a mahjong minigame???
FUCK WHERE'S MY NEAREST BEST BUY
Actually seen both in town pretty cheap, might pick them up tomorrow.
They are both fairly long, as far as beat em up's go. Both will give you over twenty hours of playtime before you beat them. I would definitely say the sequel was better than the first one. As much as I loved the first one, and the story it told, they were parts that were just confusing at times.
The plot in Yakuza 2 has so many different twists it's ridiculous. But each one of them are very well done and executed almost flawlessly. One thing though Winter. The first Yakuza is in English. The second is subtitled.
The only thing i dont like about the game, is that is a small world. All the story is in the same area would be nice to have a big ass city, but then again is a Ps2 game and $30 cant ask for more.
