It's a shame to see it go, but what's with that Tom? Just looks plain retarded. Why did they ever remodel Tom in the first place anyway?

Toonami used to be a pleasant break from the crap usually thrown at us from the TV. They actually had decent shows. Cartoons now are just..bleh.

Plus, watching those commercials, I just thought "Damn, it seems like they used to be able to get away with showing a lot more 'questionable' content then they can now." But, in a good way.

Well they could get away with a little more then than they can now. It's so awful now. A GIRL'S ASS? NO WAY GTFO. :/

Yeah, and how often do you see someone kicking someone else out of a giant flying...thing (dunno what it is in Gundam), and pulling out a gun to shoot them as they're falling?

Oh and also, I agree with a poster on Page2, Adult Swim needs more Korgoth. It also needs less Metalocalypse.

I like Metalocalyspe. But I also liked Korgoth.

Needs less T&EGJ; with more Tom goes to mayor.

Also, fuck squidbillies and inuyasha. Bring back the good shows.

I'll agree with that, but I never liked Tom goes to the mayor. And Tim and Eric just plain suck.

One of the above posters on page 3 made me think if I'd ever be interested in Anime either without Toonami. It brought so many good shows to me for the first time...I remember coming home from football/baseball practice to turn on Cartoon Network and watch the DB>DBZ>Gundam set. It was the only 2hrs of TV i'd have time to watch but it made such an impact on who I am. D:

Back when Toonami and WB Kids were big it was awesome, cartoons have gone way downhill since. Kids these days are going to grow up without good cartoons! The only stuff I can manage to watch now is Fairly Oddparents & Spongebob. I can't even watch Cartoon Network since they consistently funnel dog shit out at you.

edit: also, is anyone ever offended they shove all the anime at 11-6am ? I mean christ all people who watch Anime aren't recluse bastards who stay up at all hours of the night.

Well.. there's only two anime that come on now at a decent 10-11 AMish time. Geass and the new stuff have been shoved into the death slot of 4-5 AM on [as]. It's been a lost cause to me for a while. I haven't watched Toonami in ages, but it did introduce me to a new genre of anime even if I already watched it beforehand.

We did have Avatar: The Last Airbender. While it wasn't truly "anime" in some terms, I did look at it as one of the first successful American Animes. You're right though. Back when Toonami was during the day, and we had KidsWB (instead of this 4KidsWB shit), it was awesome. Now CN is turning into a cesspool of garbage. =[

4Kids WB did have Spectacular Spiderman also. That's the first good recreation of the Spiderman cartoon I've seen in ages.

Did you ever watch Avatar, Octavious? It was a Nick thing. It just ended about 2 months+ ago. It comes on Nicktoons now multiple times. Like.. 7-8EST on Mon-Thu (Season 1-2 repeats, but in order), then Friday at I think 6:30 EST for the Season 3 repeats and such. It's real good. Check it out.

Haven't watched Toonami in years, but sad to see it go. Used to come home from school every day and wait for it to come on.

The block was only 2 hours, half of which Naruto, the other half was Ben 10 Alien Force and Samurai Jack.

And yeah, I miss Toonami that was moved from weekday afternoon/late night blocks to Saturday all day stuff. Those were the days. Now Cartoon Network is just a giant cesspool of shit.
Oh, I see. I knew that he was Spike, but it seemed like he had died for some reason. Q_Q

Man... I just recall when they announced new Dragonball z eps for the first time back then. Continuing on with the Freeza Saga. It was like "Is Goku really a Super Saiyan?" as the Screen turns into that lost signal picture.

Tom walks in and says "Aren't you tired of hearing this? Well good news, We have some new episodes coming." Oh man, I wish i could find a youtube of that. I swear I shat myself when i saw that.

Toonami was both a blessing and a curse for me. I loved anime when I was in middle school and entering high school. It was such a niche genre then. I remember when Sailor Moon and DBZ started running when I was in like 5th or 6th grade. I'd watch Sailor Moon every day before school and DBZ would play on Sunday mornings. Dear God did I watch the same DBZ episodes for a long time. Every time the show was getting good they'd loop it.

During the same time Saturday Anime was amazing too. I remember Saturday mornings fondly getting my first taste at some good movies (Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Project A-Ko, Casshan: Robot Hunter, Venus Wars, Tenchi Muyo In Love, Record of the Lodoss War, Demon City Shinjuku).

By the time Toonami came along I was already investing in fansubs of DBZ and learned a lot about the show via the internet (life would have been so much easier with broadband back then). I was thrilled when they began to run episodes of DBZ but I ended up preferring the Japanese (I still have my fansubs of the final 20-30 episodes). Then they showed the Tenchi series, Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam and I enjoyed those.

However somewhere along the way it was all too much for me and the niche appeal wore off. Like a good indy band that hit mainstream anime wasn't my group of friends little secret anymore and I became more and more disenchanted by it all. These days I simply cannot get into new anime. I have a mental block.

It's sad to see Toonami go for all that it gave us.

It's funny you should ask but my Dad actually told me to watch it because he watched it while he was watching my little cousin, lol. I've heard it was pretty interesting so I'll have to snag a DVD and check it out, I don't have cable being in College now.

    I've not watched much Code Geass(sp?) but I've heard good things about it. Toonami got me started on DB,DBZ and i've probably watched every episode/movie under the sun for each series. The same could be said for Gundam. I can't even watch the english dubs of Naruto/Bleach on CN anymore because everyone sounds incredibly stupid. Well that and they're like 100+ eps behind. >_>;

It's funny someone mentions Broadband. Does anyone remember the little games they did for the first season of Toonami? Like...something was infesting the ship or something (god it's been a long time) and they would give you 1 password each day to play through a mini game on their website. I remember waiting like 5-10min for the thing to load on my old dial up connection, lol. God damnit the more I think back the more I'm a miss it. (not dial up, toonami)

It looks to be worse then the movie lol. I don't think I can take an entire season of duplicated lightsaber fights.

Oh god I loved Sailor moon when it was first shown on CN way back then. It was horrible, but I liked it a lot and it got really good later in the seasons.

And don't mention Korgath... such a great premier that they didnt do anything w/

I'm ashamed to say I too loved Sailor Moon. I still remember all their attack names and transformations.

Like a lot of people have said, Toonami got me into Anime. I didn't even know Anime existed until I went on vacation in Georgia and saw the broadcast, then by luck about 2 months later it came to my area in Florida. I remember running back home to make it in order to see the last bit of DBZ when Gohan blasts away Cell for the final time. The music that plays during that part always gives me goosebumps.

If it wasn't for Toonami, I never would have seen Outlaw Star, one of my all-time favorite animes.

    @ this video

What's the show with the dudes in mech-like Samurai armor? I remember watching is a long long time ago but can't remember.

Also, CN should do a tribute to old school toonami and bring back all the old shows for like a week or month.
