    New Speakers

I am looking for a new pair of speakers for my PC. I currently have these. The problem is the volume control on them is shot (a known issue with this line). The speakers and sub are fine.

I am looking for a decent set of speakers (preferably with a sub) for <$60. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

75$, a little higher than what you're looking to pay i realize, but i have these and i love them, great response on pretty much any kind of music, the mids do lack a little and some of the bass feels a little unnatural at times, but i ended up getting em on sale for like 65$ about a year ago and for the price i don't think i could have done better

If you don't really care about something super-awesome, i have to throw out the cheap option too. I bought a set for my parents that was $25 from Circuit City that is 2x Speaker + Sub. It's marginal if you do hevay listening (ie: music, mixing, maybe heavy gaming), but it gets the job done. XD

If cheap isn't your thing as mentioned above I, would also like to throw out that new egg has a ton of good options too. <3

IMO, look at spending a bit more and buy an amp/receiver and some real speakers.

I used this with a pair of decent bookshelf speakers, works great.

If you only have $60 to spend at all, then that's probably not an option. Headphones would likely offer you better quality sound at that budget though.

A setup with actual A/V equipment should last for a long time though...most of my speakers I've had for 12-13 years now, thought he ones on my PC I've only had for around 5-6. That kind of setup will generally last for decades, and you should get a lot better sound out of it.

If you do go that route, you probably want shielded speakers, and if you're using them on your desk you want to make sure they sound good for near-field, as not all speakers do.

For that price point I would honestly suggest headphones. Many speaker makers will for their low-end setups actually use headphone drivers with bigger cones, resulting in pretty poor sound quality.

These would be quite nice and I know that Sennheiser is a popular brand for good headphones. http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...%20Electronics

I'm not sure how much information you would like, so I'll start with a basic guide about buying speakers:

    http://www.pcmech.com/article/how-to-buy-speakers/

You may already know everything within it, but it doesn't hurt if you don't! (Besides, I always like to be informed about my purchases, and I'm sure others do too.) In summary, it states that you'll want to judge a set by its having tweeter and midrange speakers (like your old one), the subwoofer possibly having a wooden enclosure, and its RMS rating.

This is a nice cheap little set (though the shipping costs on NewEgg negate that a bit), with good power per speaker: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121014

Here's another suggestion, but this one is for a limited time only (on a woot-like site, which I've ordered from before):

The offer, which ends in 15 hours, is for this set at around $20 including shipping and handling:

It won't be a high end system, but I doubt you could find anything better at that price.

I have these, and I can vouch for their awesomeness.
