More like the surpreme court set a date for the appeal and the state realized they'd have to "get er done" before then.

I realize I'm just devil's advocating it up at this point, but the Georgia Supreme Court already spent most of the last year hearing his appeal. We might not be justified in ignoring their decision based on a secondhand account of the situation.

This is why I'm anti-capital punishment. The amount of resources needed to generate the certainty necessary to kill a man is far too costly for the benefit it provides.

This, combined with the certainty that we've executed innocent people in the past and will again, make capital punishment completely ridiculous.

Many had asked Georgia to grant Davis a new trial: celebrities like Susan Sarandon, Harry Belafonte and the Indigo Girls; world leaders such as former President Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Pope Benedict XVI; and former and current U.S. lawmakers like Bob Barr, Carolyn Moseley Braun and John Lewis.
    That's my guy!

Incidentally, Obama supports the death penalty.

Barr is still a "strong supporter" of the death penalty, too. Just not in this particular case.
