The Warriors is a classic, someone mentioned that before.

one awesome movie I didn't see posted (did a quick scan) was Dead Alive (also called Braindead.)
a new zealand zombie movie that involved wererat-monkeys (something to do with rats raping monkeys, creating an accursed breed), when they bite humans, humans turn into zombies.
has one of the best lines from a movie "I kick ass for the Lord", with the priest doing martial arts.
also like the part where the main character is using a lawnmower like a shield, killing a party full of zombies.

Robin Hood: Men In Tights a B-movie? Someone is on crack. 100% win movie though. I don't know that I'd call Equilibrium a B-movie either, but I don't think it was a major release. Still a must see movie.

It qualifies since it is high camp and modestly low budget. Just because a film is a "B" Movie, doesn't mean it stinks to high heaven.


Edit: OH YEAH! Spaceballs is NOT just a Star Wars spoof, it parodies Aliens, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek and other "serious" Sci-fi films of the time.

Would anyone here consider The Last Starfighter B rated? I know the special effects were cheesy as hell (as well as the story) but was still a pretty good movie.

No, it's definitely not in B-Movie territory. In fact, 'The Last Starfighter' had some of Hollywood's first forays into 3D-animation and CGI. The film cost $14 million in 1984 (which is about $27M in 2007 dollars), much of it owing to the high cost of CGI even at that time. Even though $27M is a pretty puny budget for just about any Hollywood action film, that $14M was a decent budget back in the '80s - film budgets just absolutely skyrocketed in the '90s and '00, far beyond the pace of currency inflation. I pulled a screenshot of the CGI Gunstars off wikipedia; it's actually not all that bad. The physical flying car prop, however, was pretty cheese.

I guess it's just the historian in me talking, but it seems like a lot of people have forgotten (or never knew) what the original B-movies were and how they got their name. When cinemas regulairly showed double features, the A-movie was the big draw which was then followed by the B-movie, something low-budget that people wouldn't normally see by itself. Throughout the original B-movie era, Westerns, Sci-Fi and Horror flicks were the staple B-movie to follow up big-budget drama, war, comedy, and musical pictures that made up the major A-movie films. The reason the original B-movies declined was because cinemas stopped selling double-feature tickets since they could make more money by showing a good movie twice in a night and charging full price tickets for two seperate audiences (audiences used to purchase a ticket for an evening of cinema, regardless of how many films and shorts were shown).

Into the '60s and '70s, the term B-movie became more associated with exploitation films or generally films of a more puriant nature - which cinema buffs and moralists in the prior decades condemded B-movies as anyway. As compared to its original form, I think B-movies have completely disappeared from the cinema landscape. What has replaced them are crap slasher flicks and dreck like 'Disaster Movie', along the kind of shit the Waynes brothers trot out when they feel the need to squeeze some more filth from between their asscheeks onto Western cinema. I would argue that these are not B-movies, but a new kind of bad movie altogether.

Ele, I see your info and I'm inclined to remove it from the list.

As for the history lesson, I'm aware of the past meanings of what a B-Movie is, but as I said in the intro, it is a somewhat subjective idea now. The English language changes, as do our ideas towards things (I don't think I need to get into 'gay' 'gay' and 'nice' 'nice' argument).

These are not BAD movies, if you are referring to those on the list, they are somewhat poorly done compared to Hollywood 200 million budget and 30 stars within it movies. I don't need to rehash what I've already written, and I don't think most of the people responding on here with "I LOVE this film" would agree with your assessment either.

Okay I've added the clips I've been given so far and have updated the list finally (long weekend...). I'm going to start on clips for the other movies.

Bubba Ho-tep is hilarious. I saw it the week it was at TIFF and loved it, but I may be biased because of my love for Bruce Campbell ^_^
Also I totally forgot to add Silent Night, Deadly Night.. I love that movie XD Thanks for posting clip links, it's much appreciated ^_^
