Looking at your gear, I would probably eat sushi on a boss and do the double minuet, but even with that set up, I'd give meat a try once you can get a pair of kitty pants.
Eek, you really believe I should be eating sushi? Ah, how embarrassing. ^^;; 'Course, I fully respect your opinion, and I'll do it! I do know you from elsewhere (in addition to here on BG). I've been MNKing it up since FFXI's release in the US, but I've never been lucky when it comes to Byakko's. However, my Salvage group is very talented, I'm quite proud of them and their determination, and I have no doubt that Usukane is within my reach (I also have a few pieces that can be completed with boss drops).

I no longer do sky, and haven't for over a year. Thus, Usukane is pretty much my best bet for bringing myself up to the next level.

EDIT: Aside from this, it'll be all about the Jailer of Faith. I have pop items, and my BLM is almost 75 (though most likely we'll do a TP burn method anyways). Second job to 75 after years of play, woo. Pretty excited.

My group likes to use a PLD on LAC, oddly enough. We Fealty through the first Charm so we can deal extra damage without having to run around. It's the only area we bring a PLD to, really, and it's only to make the fight a bit easier.

Uh? >_> Sound like a waste to me to bring pld.

2 melee/nin can tank this easily, as long it's slowed. Get ready at 75% to swap to staff (or run if it charm the other guy), kite around the room for 1min until it wear off and go back to it.

War/nin is pretty nice there to voke it once charm wear off.

I think what it comes down to for my group is that we have some incredibly stubborn melees who don't know what it means to run away, or change weapons, even though we've been doing this for over a year. Our mages usually end up kiting it. As for PLDs, we just like to spike down LACs health at the beginning, and Fealty gives us more time to do that.

Edited the first post to insert the new strategy. Please let me know if I've missed (or misrepresented) any advice.

Thank you again. I really hope this is useful to others, too.

I was rather amused as well. :D

I admit, it hurts my pride to be told I should use sushi, but I'm not a fool who believes meat applies to all situations. If I can't meet the ACC needed, then that's the way it is and I have to be cool with it. And I'd be nuts if I used meat meriting versus Mamool! But that's another subject.

You feel I should keep on the Melee Hose over Shura Haidate, though? I discussed the pros and cons of the two about, hm, a half a year ago elsewhere, but that was in relation to general meriting and not Salvage. If ACC is an issue though, I am wondering if I should forego the normally superior Kick Attacks+ for the sake of connecting more strikes overall. I do also have the aforementioned O-Hat and Life Belt if you believe I should be using either.

If you're using sushi, Melee Hose, definitely. For meat, I would lean towards Shura. Also have to remember that your counters can miss so acc is also important for that sense. (If you choose to use coutnerstance some do some don't)

Against normal enemies, I use Counterstance, but I only will against the chariot if I have no problems with ACC, which coincides with what you've said. To provide an example of my usual in campaign, I'll pull an enemy, pop Focus (w/Temple Crown), Dodge (w/Temple Gaiters), and then put on my Melee Gaiters and use Counterstance. (People think I'm nutty for carrying so much gear for my MNK, but I know you understand why I do.)

In a merit PT, naturally, the Melee Gaiters don't go on and I forsake the bonus. And that's neither here nor there, really, but I'll jump at any chance to talk about MNK. :D

I'll probably do the whole gear-swapping shebang if it turns out to be kosher versus LAC, since its damage versus me will likely be so high anyway, thus negating the whole "threat" of Counterstance. I haven't done the specific math; do you think it'll hit me too hard for that to be useful? What's your experience with it?

I have all the important MNK stuff merited, too (aside from H2H, I have Counter, Kick Attacks, Crits, et cetera). It's the only job I've played for all these years; I always try my best at it.

I tell my monks not to use counterstance while fighting Chariots. For farming it's great and all but when a Chariot can hit you for 500+ with Counterstance up and they can double attack as well, that's a lot of damage to be taken in one attack round.

Quick question here, both of you seem to be main MNK's, I'm trying to help one of my friends level guarding and wanna know if you feel it makes a noticable difference in Salvage against Chariots or not?

Out of curiousity why is the WHM going /RDM? One of my biggest issues as a WHM in boss fights is lack of mp. Albeit in my group WHM is low priority and unlikely to be fully geared, I'm not sure what /RDM does that you would need for this fight.

This is where people will get mixed feelings. I always use counterstance. Tried once w/o it and was pretty horrible. If i would use ni and then the other 2 shadows get DA'd off, was a fucking bitch gettin pounded till ni timer was back up cause couldn't get ichi up for shit. Would be nice to bring some counter gear though. I bring +5 counter for ichi macro (Temple Hose+1, Avenger earring x2) so that increases counter rate quite a bit.

In that case, then, I'll likely use Counterstance. And in saying that, I mean no offense toward the mage above; the reason I asked these MNKs whether it's wise or not is because they'd be familiar with how much they were hit with it off, and on, and if it's more beneficial in the end.

It's true that some enemies will strike you for 40 or so normally, and then 160+ with Counterstance on (to give a random and wide example), but this doesn't hold true in all cases. If some foes are so powerful against you as to have their potential damage basically capped already, regardless of the armor you're wearing, then using Counterstance doesn't make a huge difference. You must also consider that Counter helps a MNK get their shadows up again, and if they're constantly being interrupted, the damage they take over time will be far greater (and potentially lead to a death). This is why we also use it in merit PTs. A good MNK will know when not to use it (e.g., against something with incredibly high ACC that hits very frequently), but will also insist that it can be used in many situations. That was a completely unscientific explanation but I think you'll understand what I mean.

    That aside...

Quick question here, both of you seem to be main MNK's, I'm trying to help one of my friends level guarding and wanna know if you feel it makes a noticable difference in Salvage against Chariots or not?
Guard is nice, but virtually any MNK will tell you that it's very difficult to level. Are you using rukenshin's method? If not, you should look it up; it involves training a bunch of Mandragora against a wall in the Tree till they're all facing the MNK, targeting one near the back of the group and engaging, and then hoping for guard skills till the sun comes up. Of course, mage support is required for that, which is what you're providing I assume.

Bit late, but I'd suggest shura haidate and switching the rajas to a sniper or woodsman and then eating meat.

I have capped guard and yea its nice, but it doesn't make or break a chariot fight. Though it is nice to get critted for with counterstance up for 250-300 instead of 500-700, but its a rare occurance (not using guard gear, most of ur hits getting absorbed by utsu or being countered, doesn't leave a big window for many guard procs)

My Serenade's nukes were over 400 without merits and the af2 boots. Magic accuracy should not be an issue with merits. It really adds up nicely over the course of the battle and is, of course, hate free and free from AOE range.

edit: for this to be most useful, the pup needs the following cells:

    ability
    magic
    INT
    hands
feet (if they have af2 feet)
legs (af2 for extra magic accuracy)

    You forgot the ranged cell.

To the OP... probably the best decision you made thus far is putting that pup on BLM.

whitemage is probably /rdm for another dispel; this is kind of overkill though (Since they have a bard and a redmage) then again, I almost never give myself sj on whitemage so it may not matter.

    - still whm/sch if they have it would be much better (so much better that /rdm shouldn't even be a consideration anymore really. you still get dispel + the best mp traits available)

edit: and you're really having trouble keeping mp up on bosses? are you getting refresh and ballad? does your bard have a storm fife? (those two things will help more than what subjob you have)
