I've been attempting to go through Siebenbur the last few times I've played. I've gone through the fifth and the fourth path but I didn't run into a boss on the fourth path. And I can't actually find where the third path is. But other than that I've been going to all the pubs getting sidequests done.

This game can be quite odd sometimes.. I beat hellgate on first try and then saved, only to notice that disc 2 starts after another fight and I can't go back to finish my sidequests.. so, I backtrack like 10 hours of playtime and do everything there is to do in disc 1.. Then when I fight hellgat I'm 6 BR's higher than last time, but also at least 20% stronger, but the thing still decides to rape me..~ In the first fight its AoEs did around 300 and now 1000+.. ookay. Still beat it on 4th try though, but thats not cool imo D: Do all the sidequests and be punished!

I'm trying my best to like this game but... eh. I turn it on and play it but can't go longer than 20 minutes with it. I knew it was a Strategy RPG before I got it but I hate not having complete control over individual characters in my units. Yeah, I know I can choose how to attack per se but I like to be able to individually assign commands to my party. I'll probably end up finishing it just to beat it, but I'm not all that motivated to do much of the side stuff.

Storywise I'm not all that far into it, and it seems to be developing into something good but if the combats irking me even story won't save it for me.

If you don't like the combat to the point you're turning the game off you might as well trade it in for something else. The combat stays pretty much the same throughout the game. But the story is very good.

I might like it more if I understood how to Flank, Intercept, etc. Usually I just go after whatever unit is closest to me and the computer controlled units back me up and flank them for me.

Flank happens when you engage a unit already in deadlock with another of your parties. For example, Rush's party is deadlocked with Enemy group A. You then send David's group to attack group A also. David's group will then Flank group A, allowing you to attack them without being attacked back. If you're fighting a boss/rare monster, they will usually be able to (multi-)deadlock multiple parties before letting you Flank them.

Intercept is a bit more random. If Enemy group B is set to attack Bloctor's party, but Pagus's party engages B before B gets to Bloctor's party, Pagus will Intercept them. If it happens the opposite way and and enemy party engages you before you get to your targetted enemy party, they will "Interference" you. I don't think there's any bonuses to attack or defense from either state, but it's annoying when you send a party to raise a fallen party and you get Intercepted instead.

I hope I explained that right...It's definitely confusing for awhile until you get used to it.

When deciding what enemy party to go after, I rarely look at party positions anymore and just choose whichever is going to let me use the most weapon skills/AP with hopes I will wipe out whoever they end up engaging in one turn.

Pretty easy to understand when explained like that. I kind of do what you said when it comes to choosing which unit to go after, but I know never to engage the boss first or go after the unit farthest from me, as it will almost always be intercepted.

I only used Jager from the non-story characters, otherwise I had Rush/Dave/Emmy/Blocter/Torgal.

If I didn't recruit Caeden(sp?) from disk 1 one am I screwed out on all the quests? And if I didn't find Ghor and the city all the way to the west of the great sandsea ( I can't remember the name but it's the one you go to for some quest) am I screwed out on all the quest? Only found these on disk 2

Um, Ghor is slightly to the west of Elysion... Baaluk is to the west of Balterossa and the great sandsea.

And not sure about quests since I only found those cities in CD2 as well... I'm replaying though so I could get the absolute conquerer/all quests achievements. Check out the sticky at gamefaqs, it's a very detailed sidequest log, quest by quest and in order too.

Go to the game icon on the xbox menu (as if you were gonna play it) and hit the Y button and it should pop up a few options, one of which is to install a game to the HD

One thing I found odd, and it might be just a coincidence, but now in disc 2 when fight starts my smallest union is always the one to engage first. If the mob is strong it might even kill it off which is kinda annoying. It's also my "healing" union so it won't do much good if all their arts go to healing themselves :D. I wonder if it's just a random thing, or maybe because the union is smaller than the others? Maybe I should switch the formation to one with less mobility, although I really like my Pegasus..

I don't think speed is a factor either?

I'd rather have 2 healers in each union than a healing union.. (1 person that can restore and another that can use vivication and the other healing arts..)

And smaller groups attack first because they have fewer people, so they're technically faster.

Yeah I have it like that, but with 3 full unions there's room for 3 leftovers... ; ; Don't know what else to do with 'em really, ya think I should just go full DD on it too?

I personally went with 5/5/4/4, worked out a lot better IMO. Otherwise the group of 3 will get destroyed in boss fights, and that's no fun. I needed all 4 groups to support themselves, So I kept my 1 restore 1 vivication herb for each party setup going, and in the groups of 4 I made sure I had the strongest allies available (other than the leaders, for me it was Torgal and Emmy..)

I'll try and see how it works. I used to use same kind of setup but my 2nd try at Hellgate made me change it a bit, since my unions didn't have enough hp to survive it's attacks.. I think I have enough hp now to support teams of 4 tho. 3k at BR63
