I beat Gates of Hell last night, 2nd try overall. The fight went amazingly smooth, no deaths at all, I was able to get Cyclops on him right away and tanking, then I got Orphic Ward on Cyclops so that reduced a lot of damage for a few turns as well. Overall the fight was pretty easy as long as I had at most 2 unions deadlocked on him.

I had a pretty easy time with Gates of Hell, but fuck Young in Base 5. I think it took me 7 or 8 tries to win, and I had to grind some stats in AR. Besides Young, the only other story boss I have lost to so far is the Quisti in Base 3. Lost to him once then figured out he won't do Galaxy if he isn't deadlocked. I have to kill the Fallen now before I progress the story along. I did a half-ass attempt at him last night just to see how hard he was. The AoE he does at the end of every turn almost wipes out all my unions, so I am stuck healing and hardly able to do any damage. Animacule really blows when you get hit with it.

Currently doing a 5-5-5-3 set up with two melee unions, a hex union, and a healing union. I am going to have to grind in the Ancient Ruins for a bit I think before I can win against him, but I am going to have to kill Holy Servant to get access to the giants on the third floor.

Having a union only for healing was pivotal in my strategy to beat young. Everyone in my unions can heal and raise, but I like having that healing union around so I don't have to waste a turn with a DD union healing. My healing union will run up to a union with low health to heal them/raise them in the same turn that they took damage and/or died.

i mostly just used the Keep your HP up command and everyone would attack except the 1 person who would heal, and used Rush to raise as he would raise then other unit would heal that union to full

Wow, this game moves fast once you get onto the 2nd disc. I guess they count the long ass base battles as content.

Well, I'd like to see more storyline on the 2nd disc. Don't get me wrong there's plenty there, I'm just annoyed at the whole cop out with doing a small narrative to advance the storyline 6 months. I'd much rather have played that part out with some quests and such.

I just beat the 6 bases, beat all the fights but one on the first try, Mr. Young's Brawl II owned me the first time because I wasn't ready for it. I owned him the 2nd time though. I got so caught up in the bases that I forgot to talk to the Duke of Ghor though between each....d'oh!

Best piece of advice I ever got that has helped me out immensely, is to make sure that you put Rush in a group with 2 other people that can cast Spark/Mystic Missle so that he learns Blackout as early as possible, that spell is a godsend.

How the FUCK is it even possible to beat the guy at the Eagle's Nest? I'm at BR 29 right now, there's absolutely no sidequests that are like, plausible to beat because they're all wtfhard (i.e. Mantroskylo war thing at BR 28...hour long fight...died at 3%, not fucking doing that again; also the Aveclyff quest, the mobs were dieing wayyyyyyy too slow and I read up and saw another Mantroskylo boss and said fuck that) and likely require a higher BR, I've died about four times now and its really starting to piss me off. There's like no way to level up, and this fight is absolutely retarded hard. Any advice?

You talking about the Big guy and the woman? Take the big guy out first, after ALL adds are defeated, I was in my 40's BR when I did that fight and didn't have any problems but my guest union kept the bitch busy while I focused on my big guy so maybe I was lucky.

See, I tried to take out the adds, and start with the ones at the opposite corner of him, and they always get reinforced right next to him so I end up going to attack the rest and getting gangraped by the chick and the robot thing. How did you get BR 40 anyway? I seriously haven't avoided like any sidequests other then the ones that are way over my league (I DL'd all DLCs already so that might be why they are even there?) and I'm only 29 =/ I always fight every mob I see too, only have been enemy advantaged like 3 times throughout the game so my chain has generally been really high always too.

I got to 40's BR that early because I kept seeing "____ increased!" I get into the grinding mood and pretty much fucked myself up. I'm starting over though but that castle fight in the intro, after the caves, are giving me more problems than my first time ffffffuck.

I see...most grinding I got was when my game glitched out in the catacombs and I had to run back in all the way 3 times, heh.

Yep thats why I have star ocean 4 so I can grind out and I need to finish 4.

You could try to get Pagus/Rush/David to learn blackout and kill just about all the adds in the first turn. Just make sure you kill the big guy first. His overdrive is a lot more worse than the chick's. I wasn't lucky enough to get a blackout there, but I had a hex union which worked really good.

What's blackout even do? And can I still learn it if my Rush is an expert Samurai or does that not matter?
