The way he runs is indeed gross to watch but the battles system is alot diffrent than just turn based, your postioning has alot to do with how the battle ensues, honestly its not for me.

And no, Marcin, originally it was stated that the Conqueror was supposed to be the playable character for the 360 version, since the system and character were aimed at more "western" gamers, and Rush was going to be the character for the PS3 version, since he and the system were more "eastern". That was from press releases way back when though, obviously it changed.

In some ways, I guess it is better. I would be pissed if I had to buy it for my 360 instead of my PS3.

Still I feel blue balled. I haven't kept up with this game until I recently saw the launch trailer that the Conqueror stars in. It instantly made me want to play as him.

So I've been playing this for about 30 hours >.> for the first 15 or so I hated this game.

Once I unlocked 15 person party going through the story it opened up all the hard HNM style beasties through-out the world as actually beatable, and I've spent all my time fighting them well doing story here and there.

It almost has an MMO raid feel to the encounters that's just really addicting.

Favorite so far was fighting this giant bird in the north-lands area that I was clearly under-lvl'd for. It had a breath attack that would do 800-2000dmg every-time it used it to any union(s) caught in it's area. Musta had almost a million HP cause the fight took almost 2hours and I almost lost cause I ran out of Herbs towards the end. I had to have the cyclops "tank" it well my unions all stayed back and I did "attack from far" , so I stayed out of aggro range until it finally died.

I'm hooked on this game, and I'm glad I picked it up. Here are my impressions:

First thing I have to say is a plus is that there is not much micromanagement. I hate games like Chrono Cross where you have to keep track of 50 playable characters. In this game you have a lot of guys, but you only equip and gear one. Everyone else kind of takes care of themselves, and you come in and customize formations and what kind of skills they learn. I think it's a great balance that makes you feel in control of your party, but without the massive micromanagement. I hope more games incorporate this.

That said, I do wish there were a few more gear options for Rush. Only a main/sub weapon, and 2 accessories. Why doesn't anyone wear armor in SE games anymore?!

As far as the world map and battle systems, it seems to be a mix of FF12 and Lost Oddessy. You can fast travel anywhere on the world map, you dont have to run through zones. The battle system is a combination of turn based and some twitch button reactions. It's very well done from an aesthetics perspective, the music and background animations give you the impression you're in a large battle during every monster encounter.

There's a bunch of side quests, most in the form of hunts ala FF12. Go somewhere, find a monster, kill it. The nice part is that they're semi-instanced, you get warped to the location where the quest takes place, then warped back to the quest giver once complete. It's a small detail, but I appreciated not having to deal with pointless travel time.

One final thing I don't understand is why shops offer weapons that Rush can't use. Unless there's another playable character I haven't encountered yet... it doesn't make any sense to me.

All in all it's a good RPG with a few twists that separate it enough from the pack to be worthwhile.

    question:
are the frame rate issues really as bad as they seem in videos?

You pretty much need to instal it to the HDD, to cut the issue sout.

Instaling to the HDD doesn't really help the frame-rate issue at all, it just reduces the load-times by like 1/2.

The FPS issue is from a lack of processing power , not issues loading into memory.

It's sad that the game has framerate issues, all the reviews I've read say that it has a fantastic story.

I would never accuse this game of having a fantastic story...the story/setting are probably the worst part of the game. It's also pretty much a FF12 rip-off, Replace remnants with nethercide(or whatever it was), Vann with Rush, Ashe with Irina(including some bazarre implied incest between the two >.>), etc etc...the plot is incredibly parrallel, as is the setting.

It's the combat system that's awesome.

I just figured this out by accident myself. If u buy those weapons and accessories, your party members will start asking to borrow the extra equipment in your inventory eventually.(So far they've just asked for accessories, but I'd imagine weapons would work the same way, or maybe those weapons are a base to upgrade to a better weapon for the party members, since none of them seem that great.)

Whenever party members ask for items, or union leaders ask for materials from the map, try to make an effort to do it, as it helps them out quite a bit.

Those weapons are also meant to be dis-assembled for their parts.

The frame rate suffers especially if you don't install the game to the hard drive. I'm used to it already and it doesn't bother me or affect game play, but yeah, it can be pretty bad if you don't install the game.
