    New Graphics Card

Some of my games are starting to lag a bit or rather they just don't look as pretty as I'd like, I mean I have to run TF2 at 800x600 specced all the way down just to not lag which kind of annoys me, so I'm wondering if a new graphics card would help?

Computer's a few years old, only thing I've changed on it is adding another gig of ram (now 2), but anyway here's the pertinent information (at least what I can think of, I don't really know much else besides running dxdiag)

    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
    2 gigs of RAM
    Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6100

I have no idea what type of chipsets or anything beyond about those 3 things, I'm mostly wondering two things:
    1) Would upgrading my graphics card help as much as I'd like or is the rest of the PC mostly out of date?
    2) What would be a relatively cheap (150$~) graphics card that would do the job?

More important question here is what model motherboard do you have (and if you don't know, what model your PC is, if it was shelf-bought), and what are the details about your PSU?

If you have a PCI-E-compatible motherboard, he 8800GTs are down to the ~$120 range, which will be excellent for you.

I'm relatively certain I have at least one PCI-E slot free, let me see if I can't dig up exactly what it was that I bought

is what I have, so would a graphics card upgrade be a worthwhile investment? I'm not looking to get 60fps on anything in WoW, but getting out of the 20 range would be a nice improvement, also running tf2 at something (anything) larger than 800x600 and lighting up on pyro without lagging would be absolutely wonderful

Yeah, that's good. If you want to find out what the specs of your PSU are (look at the sticker on the side of it, take a picture or something), we can help narrow down if you need one of those as well. Usually shelf-bought computers come with PSUs that are only made to handle what is in the machine at the time of purchase. Adding something like a video card (which draws the most power in the entire system) might cause your computer not to boot if there's too much running through your PSU.

When it comes to graphics cards in that price range, you can't really go wrong with this. It would chew up WoW or TF2 like butter.
