I've always believed in calling it magic evasion (this is what it's called in other FFs anyway). Glad SE finally confirmed it :D

Anyone ragging on magic accuracy is a retard who is just ragging on it because they think they should be. It really is a good stat to have, however not over things that excessively overwhelm it. Chausuble vs Tabard would be the equivelant of a DRK choosing to wear a Luisant Haubert when he's got an Armada Hauberk.
What about Wise cap(+1) vs Elite Beret(+1)? Wise cap?
In the "ugliest headgear" category?
This is one of the things I was referencing earlier. I, of course, would use a Duelist's Chapeau if it were available to me, but for the time being, I prefer HQ JSE over HQ Elite. I also use JSE legs over Mahatma Slops, but that's pretty questionable, as 8 INT is quite a lot. Although other than those two examples, and Avocat Pigaches(have, but use Goliard), you don't really find yourself needing to choose very often, so it the differences shouldn't make that much of an impact either way.
And yeah, my belief about Macc(1 Skill = .9 Macc) is in favor of Macc, if only slightly.
Well, if the belief is also 2:1 for INT/MND ratio on MACC, 8INT=4macc which is higher then wise legs+1. Also, the MND boost is kind hot.
Not reading, but I'll contribute.
My first nuke in Morgana's Cotehardie (SCH) on a level 1 Bee resulted in a half resist (lolRelicmissingfirstWScomparison).
Anyway, EXPing on puddings tonight, I cast all my Thunder IVs in it with thunderstorm between lightningsday and lightsday. Used errant for blizzard. I got one half resist on thundersday and one half resist on lightsday. No other resists with Macc-3 (Morgana's -8 Omega+3 Grip+2) and 272 ele skill on Thunder IVs.
Random: Needs more goliard cuffs. :/
I'm not trying to force this belief on anyone...I just think it would work well with the actual system.
Spoiler: show
I bought a nq ice staff a while back to do some massive testing, but I wasn't able to find the time to do it. If I had to guess, I would say it's +10m.acc and +15m.acc for HQ. A percent increase would be too big, and difference isn't that huge.
I find that with around 320 skill, shit either lands 90% of the time (grounds, grands, U/O) or 5% of the time (tau kings). That's the only reason I sorta shrug my shoulders at omega ring.
If I already have 90% acc, then I'd rather stack on potency and just recast when I get resists. If I only have 5% acc, then screw it, I won't enfeeble without ES anyway. I guess technically macc stats could allow you to move around +skill stuff from other slots in favor of potency, but to do that reliably you'd need to fully understand the macc formula which nobody does.
hmmm....Just to toss this into the conversation, if ele staves are really just m.acc +10/15, that means every Mythic with +10 on it is equal to an NQ.
I had an internal debate about this over the weekend looking at my SCH69.
As an Elvaan, I have a pair of Cobra Unit Crackows to nuke in, and I've been neglecting to equip anything on my hands thinking that I'd just go after Vicious Mufflers once I got enough time to do so.
But, if the speculation regarding the M.Acc. bonus is accurate on this set of Cobra gear (+5 M.Acc. per additional piece), it made more sense to me to get the Cobra Unit Gloves and just hang on to them until I get a better piece for the feet first.
The MAB+3 is noticable, and I without being studious enough to parse the true M.Acc. bonus, I'm finding myself resisted less in comparison to my wife's BLM69, but the only mobs I've watched have been Qiqirn Polterers.
Still, some good testing methodology on M.Acc. would be an awesome thing for all of us. I'd love to experiment with the two Cobra pieces I'm using if I had a good test to guide me.
Really wouldn't bet on the MAcc bonus from Cobra gear being any more than +1~2 per piece.
Since there isnt a seperate message for "magic evade" I wonder if it just forces a resist when it occurs. Why dont any of the NPCs in windurst ever talk about how magic works...
I would guess that like with physical accuracy +1 Macc is about +0.5% magic "hit rate", so Alkalurops would be on par with an NQ staff and +10 Macc would be half as effective as an NQ.
Why wouldn't we just draw parallels to the melee skill/melee accuracy debate? For example, torques vs charm. Wouldn't the magic dilemma be the same?
Because melee skill/accuracy isn't a debate, it's a collection of facts. The dilemma with magic isn't in determining which of two known bonuses is better for a given situation, but rather in trying to make such a comparison when the exact effects are unclear. And it's really not reasonable, in my opinion, to use a melee analogy as a starting point, given that those calculations regarding other aspects of magic which are already understood are more often than not fundamentally different from their melee counterparts, and the limited data available regarding magic accuracy would suggest that it may be as well.
