Salvage Gear Rarity?

I've seen two SSR 35's drop in at least a hundred runs. Ares 35 on the second Gryo3 we had ever killed (I passed to a good friend because I already had Ares's Cuirass), and a pair of freelotted Skadi hands to some BST.

Now I'm 0/40+ on Gyro3 for my pants. I hate that zone.

Hardest to get would be Turtle's drop, shitty drop rate shitty pop condition crappy floor, his rate needs to be bumped up considering the effort involved.


As for skadi, hands are the most rare because surprise surprise, it's in SSR. Been nearly a year now and haven't been able to complete my full set of skadi simply because of the no drop. My AU salvage group has gotten 1 drop ever from SSR , usukane body, which we are grateful for but COME ON.

You know that 35 skadi hands we got a few weeks after salvage came out still hasn't been upgraded. D: The 25 drops every time he's not there and he's just never got it. Still havn't seen bhaf put out anything thats not bard pants, though our SSR rate isn't as bad as some other peoples. <_<;

We killed them for the first time a couple nights ago. Couldn't even get beginner's luck with those, beginner's luck ALWAYS works >< SSR is an asshole.

Took 143 runs to see my Macha's coat. Other than that, I'd like to comment on macha's cuffs drop rate, but I'd have to first bitch about NEVER seeing that spider.

Every time I'm running around on MNK I get checks because of the Usu body.

I'm going to have to agree with the SSR assessment, though I've strangely seen a lot of Usukane Somens and Macha's slops running around.

I think I'll have to say Skadi hands are probably the rarest Salvage piece out there, followed possibly by Marduk feet. In those cases, it's because finishing those two pieces requires skipping Powderkeg.

And even when you do get them, somewhere in the depths of your soul, you knew that if you'd taken the SE path that day, you would've gotten them.

Our SS stats are...
10/124 Hikazu Kabuto
2/100 Macha's Slops (2% drop rate ftw)

6/84 Freya's Gloves
6/102 Deimos's Cuisses
3/36 Hikazu Hara-ate

All of these drop rates leave something to be desired (except maybe Hammerblow), but Powderkeg is just retarded, especially considering it cock blocks you out of Crackows and Gloves.

I would be happy with 1/10th the drop rate you see on Hikazu Kabuto (we're at 100+ and 0 drops) although we hit 1/1 on our first hikazu hara-ate (and then proceeded to never see another .. )

hmmmm SSR does seem to suck, but we havn't done much with dekka or GG, we are like 2/6 on dekka and about the same for GG, on the other hand we have never once seen a GGS drop, and only 1 Macha slots (which i'm forever thankful for) ever, and we have done PK basicly every week for over a year.

Our shells history seems to show this as the patter:
Morrigan: Legs > Body > Head > Feet > Hand
Usukane: Body > Feet > Hand/Head/Legs (4+ of all but the body)
Ares: Legs > Body > Head > Hand > Feet (havn't tried much for hands though)
Marduk: Feet > Head > Hand/Body/Legs (Free lot bodies, hands, and legs)
Skadi: Legs > Body > Hand > Head/Feet (Free lot Head and Feet)

The day I came back from my FFXI hiatus, did a split zhayolm/SSR run and have had skadi hands on my priority for awhile now, as well as marduk head. Leader had me choose which one to go on, chose Zhayolm. Guess what dropped in the other zone. Went to someone whos only been doing salvage for about 2 months (and is already 4/5 skadi with those hands now).

And thats my sob story.

I have been doing salvage since 2000 AP / tag + no starting chest and I've found the above to be exceptionally true. I cannot fucking stand the pictures of people getting 8 Gate Widows and 5 Pephredos in Bhaflau. Excluding this week where we had some Gate Widows finally, I had *never* seen a single Gate Widow, and I still have *never* seen a single Skirmish Pephredo or Zebra Zachary. We also just saw our first Deimos Cuirass ever last week...

As for overall rarity, it sounds more like the OP is talking about the pieces you actually see versus the nominal drop rate on each mob. The former is subjective as some pieces just aren't as great as others, especially to main full-time. Weighing in on Ares's only I'd say the following:

Ares's: Legs ~ Body < Hands < Head < Feet

Going by hearsay, Hikazu Hara-Ate sounds like it may be the worst along with Macha's Slops.

rarest upgrades would be very different, I think. - rarest upgrade is probably either skadi head or marduk hands; simply because neither is worth the price without the rest of the set.
