I loved when you could run around with an m80/82 and no-scope people. I pissed off so many people doing that.

Shotgunning? yea, that never got old. We used to set up private rooms where we'd line up facing each other in teams of 5 or so and use M40's (the shitty sniper) and just shoot at the opposing team without moving. Of course they scrapped all of that in s2 and started to make the game more "serious."

Over the last two days I've spent a total of 40 minutes trying to join games (without actually getting in one). Since 1.6 no matter what server, what room, it either freezes, times out, disconnects, loads infinitely, or just says that I can't join at all. Hopefully they fix this before the 14th.

Also, is it just me, or when navigating menus is your controller super sensitive? Buttons will double click, the arrows will make your highlighted selection go 5 rows down instead of 1, etc.. On that note, when in the armory, is there a slight menu navigation lag too when going into and out of some categories? It's quite annoying and slows down the whole process considerably.

I'm not ragging on it or anything, just seeing if these are common beta bugs or me alone.

Yea, I've had the same issue. I stopped playing after 1.6 because I couldn't stand the load times. Also, the buttons have always seemed super sensitive in the menus, but in game I adjusted mine down so it wasn't as bad.

1.6 is weird. Either you join games and it runs flawlessly, or you have to try forever to join a game. Not really sure what the problem is to be honest, but I guess we can only hope they know what the problem is and have a plan to fix it for the final release.

On the issues of navigating menus, yeah I have the same issues, glad to know I'm not the only one. In the armory, I do get the lag sometimes, the delay can be pretty annoying when you are trying to switch your gun/attachments before a round ends. All in all, I just hope they have all these issues fixed when the final copy is in our hands.

Wiki says it's out today, but it isn't released here until the 16th. Anyone pick it up? Have those issues been fixed? How are the maps/weapons/gameplay?

Pretty sure PSN is still down for maintenance, unless I'm wrong.

Kid I used to play s2 with on GB said that the beta was actually really good during the last week. He didn't touch S3 due to hating it, so now I'm curious again.

Sounds totally gay, but Socom II was such a big part of my young life that I dont think the experience will ever be duplicated. Some days it was the only way I got to talk to friends that moved away, or in general have such a good fuckin time playing it that I forgot about everything else. I played the Confrontation beta at a friends house who gets the codes from PSN every time betas like this come out due to him testing for them so often. I liked playing it, but at the same time, as I ran through the "new" Crossroads map, I knew i'd never get the same feeling I had playing S2. I may end up getting it anyway.

I swear I cant get this into peoples heads that, the shipping date is the date you'll see advertised unless its the actual street date, always add a day. People still cant grasp the concept tho, and honestly store should fix their listings accordingly, I know Best Buy has started to.

Release date got fucked on this, thought Id let you guys know. (I have no interest in this game) If you have it reserved at gamestop, they should have a special offer tomorrow for you. I skimmed over the email before i left, but i believe it was a something like $10 off a ps2 game or something. Ill check in the morning.

EDIT: Some gamestops that got this late will be offering $10 off any used ps3 game $20+

Picked it up from work tonight, popping it in now.

EDIT: God fucking damn it... turn on PS3, have to update to 2.50 (+25 minutes). Put in S:C, have to install 3GBs of data (+20 minutes), go to main menu, have to install 1.10 patch (+25 minutes). Been an hour and I haven't even picked up a gun yet lol.

I went home, updated to 2.50.... popped the game in, started the install process and then went out to the pub to watch the game.

Figured it was easier, because I heard the update servers for the patch were getting pounded and taking forever to download. So i'll do it tonight

Played about an hour last night, so despite only playing a few maps, here are my first impressions in point form:

    - Textures/environments are great, however other players are generally hard to see behind muzzle flashes when in gunfights. Often you're aiming at the muzzle flash instead of the guy you're trying to kill.

    - Night maps are DARK. Like... if you don't have nightvision on (zoomed in to almost first person), you're going to get ganked for sure.

    - Remakes of DesGlo and Frostfire are really well done. You can definitely feel the old maps in there, but the overall ambiance is definitely improved.

    - I played two new maps: Quarantine and Urban Wasteland. Both were the large versions, and let me say these are big enough to only reasonably play in a 16x16 match, there's too much space for a 4x4 or 8x8. Having said that, they're very nice maps... I was specifically impressed with Urban Wasteland... I actually ran around to look at stuff first before trying to find people because of how amazing it was.

    - Arrrgghhhh reload times are WAY too long. Oh, and if you do anything other than move when reloading it cancels the reload, making you start again. This has killed me more times than I have fingers to count on now. =((((

    - Nade toss arrow is finicky, definitely doesn't have the distance/accuracy of past SOCOMs... learning curve I suppose. Blast area is definitely larger though.

    - Menu lag is still there, but to a lesser extent. I don't know if this is completely patchable, but here's to hoping...

    - Kill count/player score menu has to LOAD during play as opposed to the old SOCOM's quick tab-in-tab-out method. If you want to look at who's left during a match, make sure you're in a safe place because it'll take about 5 or so seconds to bring it up, look, and put it back down. On this note, you can't see your overall K/D amount until the map is over, at which time it only shows for about 5 seconds before heading back to the lobby. If you're on an escort/capture point map, you have to scroll horizontally to view your K/D amount. Definitely not my favorite.

I sound like I'm griping, but most of this stuff is small aesthetic learning-curvy type things... not too many fundamental gameplay issues. I'll play some more tonight and hopefully follow up once I have more than just an hour under my belt.

EDIT: Went over to the official S:C boards and apparently people are bitching about EVERYTHING, lol. They have to keep in mind this is a different company that is making this game, so it won't be exactly like SOCOMs (lets forget 3, okay?) of old. Some of the threads bring up good points, but it's like a day old, and S6 needs some time to take in all this feedback and translate it to game patches.

Oh God, it plays so good! Really enjoying the new maps..Fallen is pretty amazing. I've only done the 8v8 matches so far, but everything feels great, they are having some server issues though, but I believe they are aware of the problem.
