I heard an advertisement on the radio today for the gentleman's club, The Gold Club, and Otherworld was playing in the background. It played the intro and looped right when the vocal would kick in.

I figured the business would have had to get some sort of permission to do that, but I don't know. Maybe not because it was just part of it? And I somewhat doubt they even know where it came from, but who knows, I guess.

You can look up Dave Mustaine bitching about this law somewhere on the interwebs. MTV News used the Bass line from "Peace Sells" for years and years, but the portion sampled was too small for him to get money out of the deal.

I'm not sure what you're saying, rights and clearances is a factor for all manner of media production, I doubt they just rip off songs willy-nilly.

Gentleman's club franchise either bargains for multi-venue rights or uses a dj... both pay music rights to play music.
