is it the Sapphire 4850? That thread focuses on cards that have the following numbers associated with them (believed to be found on the box)

    SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E with the following PN/SKU ONLY
    P/N:188-01E85-001SA
    SKU#11133-00

Here was the fix for that specific card:

mod edit for emphasis: DO NOT FLASH YOUR CARD UNLESS YOU HAVE THE EXACT MODEL, PART #, AND SKU AS MENTIONED ABOVE. FLASHING THE WRONG CARD WILL LIKELY BREAK YOUR SHIT.
Wow thank you all, ive been in this post for awhile but said nothing, everything i tryed failed i had no idea's etc.... anyways for all you noobs out there wanting THE QUICK FIX here it is buds.

THE QUICK FIX NOT PURE DOS, BOOT FLASH ETC

    http://rapidshare.com/files/150224290/Fix.rar.html

Just run the flash.bat and that's it

    http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/5184/loljo6.jpg

Of course do this at your own risk i take no responsibility but its just all the eveything needed to fix put together in one file to make it easy

After you run flash.bat it will Flash for about 2 mins then you will be prompted for a reboot then all should be good, never crashed since

    Only USED ON SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E

    DONT MIND MY SPELLING!

    NOTE MY SPECS ARE

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs)
    Memory: 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB G.Skill)
    Hard Drive: 1TB, 1000GB (2 x 500GB)
    Video Card: SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E

Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro
Operating System: Windows Vista, Service Pack 1
    Motherboard: Asus P5Q P45
Keep in mind if your running 2 of these, you will need to flash both. Flash the first one without changing anything at all, then, you will need to change the PCIe slot in the bat file to flash the second one one, you do this by opening flash.bat with notepade and changing:

    atiwinflash.exe -f -p 0 1e8501sa.002

    to

    atiwinflash.exe -f -p 1 1e8501sa.002

nope, but i cannot stress how important it is to verify that you are a match to the following:

    SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E with the following PN/SKU ONLY
    P/N:188-01E85-001SA
    SKU#11133-00

Drat, unfortunately we're running a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 512MB, is there an equivalent fix for the 4850 card?

yea there is for that card too

    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/1...12.080605.html

download this bin file and toss it in same folder as ATIWINFLASH

open the bat file with notepad and change

    atiwinflash.exe -f -p 0 1e8501sa.002

    to

    atiwinflash.exe -f -p 0 MSI.HD4850.512.080605.bin

(or whatever u named the bin file too), then its ready to be flashed by running the bat file. if your computer seems to hang, take a walk, its supposed to do this!

keep in mind the 0 is which slot your card sits in, and if you have 2, u need to do 1 at a time, after rebooting you need to change to 1 and flash that card.

also, these indeed are MSI BIOs, but they are compatible.

one more thing, you need restore defaults in ccc after you flash.

I've flashed the video card using the MSI Bios, and so far so good as it hasn't been bricked. We'll see it under stress when we do Dynamis on Tuesday, hopefully this issue is fixed once and for all.

No luck, it was going pretty well for the past week, but then decided to lock up 3 times in a row last night doing sky events.
