I sat on over 10M for the longest time because of the economy. 10M was like 3 Haubergeons back in the day, now it's like 50 Haubergeons. If someone had accused me of buying gil after I spent 3M on a Toreador's Ring a couple of months back I would've been very pissed.

This happens to a lot of people. They come into gil, finally get the big drop in a BCNM, a friend quits, etc. It's when all of those things happen in one week for 3 weeks in a row that I just laugh at people.

Imo, there are more gils being changed hands OUTSIDE of AH, than the ones you see on AH.

AH is not at all as transparent as it seems, period.
It is indeed true that far more gil is now transacted outside of the AH. Gil buyers and sellers do too though, and those that use the gil they purchased normally use that gil outside of the AH for things they can't get through the AH, like Rare/Ex items.

So, we're back to square one, there's no way in telling if someone RMT or not.

There's no 100% sure way to tell either way. That said, there are varying levels of "maybe".

As an example, back when Diabolos the avatar came out, I got a /tell from a friend asking me to help someone manaburn it. The "client" was a DRG with expensive gear (Barone body back when hardly anyone was killing Jorm, etc), and he was paying each of the four BLMs and me (the RDM/DRK) 500k each. I didn't recognize the name, and he wasn't in any of the major sky or HNM LSs. Obviously, I did it, because I needed the avatar myself after spending the entire previous day trying to kill it with a normal party, and the 500k payout was just a bonus.

Did I see the IGE receipts? Nope. Is it reasonable to think that he probably bought gil? I'd say so.

I thought the STF nixed people shortly after gilbuying? Or is that just for HUGE buyers?

I don't think the STF can catch all of that. I know several people who admit to buying gil who have never been banned for it. But the AH is not a reliable way to track gil. There are a lot of expensive nonAHable zeni items (and I'm not sure about the WoTG BCNM drops) at the moment and there's no way to know who is out there farming them.

My mules craft and garden and are my slaves.

I sell nothing on my main as I have a mule parked in Jeuno just for that. I also have not bought anything major in a long time, but I'm sitting on decent gil from years of playing and not being a twit.

If I dropped a lot of cash on the AH tomorrow I'd meet the OP criteria perfectly.

So, no, you can't tell RMT just by shopping history. You can guess pretty well if you have a douche who is always QQ'ing about being broke who suddenly drops several mil, but other than that, meh.

the only reason they're excuses is because they could be viable explanations and are unverifiable. while the "my friend quit and gave me 10m" could very well be more likely a lie than truth, the question was if the above factors could be used to presume that the individual was a gil buyer with a fairly high degree of accuracy. the list of plausible means the individual could have received gil off the AH makes it hard to draw any reasonable conclusions about if the individual does or does not buy gil.

    LE GASP.

At the original topic, you really can't tell if you know they are in some form of endgame. A lot of shit is bazaared every day, and that isn't monitored at all.

That's why most people were born with reasoning and judgment.

Usually I tell if they buy gil if they drop millions on...crappy stuff not good for their job. Saw some guy who had like all the HQ MP gear for his taru BLM and was nuking in it...

I also know a guy who quit and gave 50 mil to the first nub he saw, so I guess you really can't tell.

    Therin buys gil.

But ya, in all honesty it is pretty hard to pick them out. I have max crafts (actually missing last .1 of cloth for last 2 years but whatever Q.Q), do ENMs/KSs once a week, and have a wife who is a goldsmither and I still get people that ask/insuiate that I buy gil after checking my gear.

Typically I have seen a few reasons people think others buy gil:

    1. Their gear is so amazingly above the norm people just cant fathom how one person got it all.

    2. A person has shit for gear except one awesome expensive peice (wow that guy must be a moron who bought gil!).

    3. The person has no crafts, farms nothing, has no ah history, but has a relic Q.Q (not always a case due to LS funding and rolanmart, but whatever).

    4. (And this is the most obvious one), the person that generally has no money, is always asking for help getting money and/or affording something suddenly shows up one week with a bunch of expensive stuff...

Number 4 is usually a sure sign of gil buying. I would also assume that about 20% of relics are done through gil buying (mostly because I am bitter and see alot of people that I KNOW didnt fucking farm/craft for their relic have one Q.Q).

In the end though, who the fuck cares. Those people cheapin the game for themselves because they dont earn/work for anything.

Back when I was levelling DRK in the NA PS2 days, I partied with a completely decked out SAM who had stuff like a Peacock Charm (when it was 15+ million gil, well before the inflation), Fuma Kyahan and Ochiudo's Kote. I asked him how he possibly could of gotten the gil for that, and he said he farmed crawlers for a long time. Simple math showed that he was completely full of crap, but he resolutely stuck to that story.

I later named him on these forums on a thread asking about known gil buyers, and he later sent me tells saying that his LS mates are accusing him of RMTing because of my post. Despite his complaints to me in tells, he never actually denied buying gil.
