Seeing as how you can walk right up behind a Taurus and it'll never bat an eye at you, I think Imps actually truly are True Sound.
And it's not regular sound, because I've walked up to an Imp from directly behind with Sneak on to double check, and it turned around and started casting on me.
It's always helpful to have both a melee and mage job lvled. That way when you get sick of one job type you can switch to the other. And still be useful. When it comes to merits gotta pick which one you to be more powerful when it comes to the Str and Mnd or Int parts.
I've run into alot of new players doing these lately.....
1. Don't immediately ask for help from your LS every time you log in. It's annoying and your LS mates will learn your needy patterns and start saying no to you. We all need help sometimes, but don't be that guy/girl.
2. If there is a party in a camp, don't overcamp them or try to be big enough assholes to them that they leave. Merit camps are a different story entirely, and there are camps that I guess you could say are being wasted if not used efficiently... I mean this more for low level camps. If you see a party in a camp, consider the camp full and look elsewhere. Don't camp over them, steal their mobs, /slap their party members, try to push them out, etc... and be surprised when one of them comes back with a 75 job and lays waste to your entire area of exp mobs. That lvl 34 THF who's party you just ruined may just have a 75 job in his closet.
On the subject of not wasting your friend-capital by excessively asking for help, if you are levelling BLU there are very few spells that can't be either soloed or duoed with another BLU at the level it can be used. Spinal Cleave, Body Slam, Voracious Trunk, maybe Frenetic Rip, maybe Refueling (weather conditions on the low-lvl clusters are lame) maybe Memento Mori, maybe Exuvation, maybe some of the WotG spells (I was already 75 when those came out).
Any of the other 100-odd spells, if you can't solo them (and often you can actually solo them with Head Butt and luck if you try), just do a search for other BLUs around your level range and /tell them. When I did that usually one or two people already had them, one person needed them but had to log soon, and one person was willing and excited to go get them. This goes for all of the spells you get in level-cap zones, all of the Lv67-70 ToAU spells, and all of the sea spells, as well as some others that you frequently see people soliciting assistance for.
If you're on PC, go into Config/Misc.2/Movement and bind some keys to Menu/Target Cursor Up/Down/Left/Right so you can select your target like the d-pad on a controller. This is very useful for moving up/down through the alliance list, especially now with <stpt> and <stal>.
If you find yourself a new player and you are broke, cus you will be newbie, and you have what i like to call the Leveling Bug< where you insist on XPing even though you are still wearing level 8 armor, and you are in garliage citadel...> GO BACK to your hometown and level every job you have unlocked to level 12.. do so against the easiest prey you can until they no longer yield XP, this is a very good way to earn money, crystals, vendorables, cp, beastman seals etc, AND it will earn you a lil more knowledge as to how other jobs perform. Use the proceeds to fund your one 1 <a> singular ONLY job you plan on taking to 75, then use yer 75 to fund your next lowbie.
On that tip, level WHM first. The spells you need are inexpensive, the job requires no food, only that you pay attention to the screen, and gives you a way to make money at 36.
For BLM's using Sorc ring, you can activate the ring without being in yellow HP. Using convert HP -> MP gear still counts the same as -HP gear, but changes your HP total when calculating if you have yellow HP(so you activate the ring while still being in white). Nuking gear that has HP -> MP: Zenith Mitts, elemental grips(depending on what your nuking, you might prefer the bugard strap +1, but you will have to weigh the pro's and cons of having the 1 int vs. nuking in yellow if you don't have zenith mitts)
Uses for this: Not aggroing undead, not getting cure spammed by your healers midcast(yellow hp seems to draw cures especially with a taru HP pool, while just above yellow draws much less)
Note: This works for Sorc ring, but I have heard that at least for the Minstrel Ring, you DO need yellow hp to activate latent. I have only tested with Sorc tho.
That's right, Minstrel's Ring doesn't ignore convert HP->MP gear like Sorcerer's Ring does; it's a straight <hpp> check. However, you can still activate it without going into yellow HP, since the latent is active below 76% HP, and yellow is below 75% HP, so if your HP is between 75 and 76% you can get the Minstrel's latent without attracting unwanted attention.
Sea gorgets : (I need someone to validate this statement as well, in case I was wrong)
If none of your job is using Penta Thrust, these 4 gorgets can cover all the useful WS in the game:
- Soil Gorget
- Snow Gorget
- Breeze Gorget
- Flame Gorget
Anyone know how to emote when they're dead? Heard it was possible. Anyone?
If you've activated your exp charge & don't want to waste it, you can logout or talk to an NPC to stop the timer. The NPC has to be one that keeps you from moving for this to work.
When you do Slaugterhouse Campaign Op everyone in your pt can click the ??? after you have done so first for free exp. Cool to do after campaign battle. However if multiple do the same Campaign Op they'll all get credit for it. So if you want to do this 6 times then only 1 person can have the quest at a time.
I made a (hideously fugly) chart in OpenOffice to illustrate this, using the information from FFXIClopedia. I know it doesn't have relic WSs, but did I leave out anything else useful? Is anything wrong? I did include the SMN/BLM/SCH Mythic weaponskills just in case, and also included ones like Primal Rend and Leaden Salute that might work better with Uggy anyway.
I think now that we have Drakesbane, one hopefully wouldn't have to worry about getting a gorget just for Penta-thrust, as ideally you'd be able to reasonably quest Drakesbane 3 levels after being able to use gorgets anyway.
Also, I have soil, breeze, and snow already, and can't for the life of me imagine why I wanted to get a light gorget instead of a flame gorget.
Edit: an actual link would help.

-{May} {Bee} does not mean "Maybe"
(my own personal crusade)
-"Jap" is a racial slur. I don't care if you don't think it's offensive. Many Japanese people do. "JP" is the prefered abbreviation.
5th month insect
<hill> <area> is a funny way to say "welcome back".
You can type /ta <st> or /ta <stpc> while you're dead to ask for raises/see how much HP the monster has left/etc.
An example is like when your about to zone, and on a Choco. If you time it just right, you can hit "Dismount" and zone at the same time. In return saving time to avoid the animation of getting off of your Chocobo.
A friends of mine recently just got the game. And I've forgotten most of the tricks, or just can't recall them since they are mostly locked in memory now.
Anyone else?
For those that play on PCs or laptops, you can hit page up or down when looking at lists in the autotranslator, which can save a hell of a lot of time when looking for an item that starts with "R" under items as opposed to holding the down or up arrow down.
Along the same note, you can use left and right arrows to jump "pages" in inventory, mog safe/locker, and storage
Also forgot to add, since alot of people seem to not know.
[Storage Location]
