Perfect example of what NOT to do.
For the love of god please waste time getting to 75, learn your job, learn what is expected of you. Dont burn to 75 SAM then try to learn how to skillchain. Farm for your gear, get good gear, learn what makes that job special at 75 and know what your role is.

/sigh this is why we have so many retarded 75's

Your second roll should be Chaos Roll or something that would assist the party in moving through mobs quickly, but not so quickly that you are left with no mobs and thus lose the chain.

I'm sure career Corsairs can elaborate better than I can on what second roll is best in certain situations. In my experiences, Chaos Roll has always been tops, and with the new Tricorne, I'd imagine it's only gotten better.
This is true only if adding the second roll will cause the party to kill faster than repops can support. If the COR is the only buffer and the party isn't completely decked out, they may in fact not be killing fast enough to clear all mobs(dependant on camp) and another roll may be viable.

Also, use Luzaf's for Corsair Roll, be considerate of the healer.

/ta <r> will target the last person who sent you a tell, great way to fast target someone in dynamis etc if they aren't in your alliance and send you a tell for a raise/silena/insert other random stat removal spell here.

You can get one drop per party per 5 minutes. As such, you can have more than 1 in treasure pool at a time in an alliance(provided different parties killshotted the mobs).

On Topic: Don't pass on tips about 4 leaf mandy buds, barfiraing for mijin, lucky desks, or anything else that you don't know for sure is true. These sort of things blow way out of proportion when there's no evidence to back them up.

You arent always going to have it for whatever reason but try to always have appropriate food for your level. For example, you arent going to use Hedgehog Pies at level 20 but Meat Jerky would be great for that level span.
If you can afford it (I know they're relatively cheap for people with higher level jobs, but since we also know that food = good!), Rice Dumplings are amazing at this level.

    /target <bt>

very useful for getting your target back when you're kiting, or easily targeting the mob the puller is bringing to camp. Just don't use <bt> in spell/ability macros.

    /target <scan>

is also useful for jobs with wide scan.

As for Corsair's Roll: Use another roll if it will let you kill 15% faster AND you aren't waiting on repops. If either of those conditions do not apply, stick with COR roll.

To get the full transportation abilities of BLM, you now need to take it to 55 for Retrace.
And WHM to 53 for Recalls, though they aren't very important.

/stare motion <stnpc> will let you set <lastst> without doing anything else. Useful if you want to select a target, then switch gear, then cast a spell.

    Pretty simple:

When asking for help or sending a /t "Excuse me", "Please", and "Thank you" go a long way.
Just because it's a game doesn't mean manners don't count, all are also in the AT so there's no excuse to not use them.

There's a little bit more to mage food than this.
Cookies = cheap rest food for all jobs. All cookies also have a "killer" effect on them, but it almost never comes in handy since you shouldn't be getting too much hate as a mage.
Pies are blm food, as in they contain INT and MP. Melon pie +1 is what I consider the best, since it only has slightly worse stats than rolanberry pie, but it also has +hmp (not a lot, like 2 if i remember correctly, but better than nothing at all.) Crimson Jelly is great at higher levels, but its only one more int than melon +1 and 1 less hmp (although obviously superior in terms of MP) so at low to mid levels, I'd still put melon +1 at the top.
Mushrooms are good food for whm. They generally add mind, mp, hmp and -emnity. Witch stew adds 45 mp, 4 mnd, 4 hmp and -4 emnity and lasts for 3 hours, and I prefer using it if I'm going to be doing a long term event instead of spamming cookies.

    Please use the Auto-translate function.

Take time while leveling to do a little with the job on your own, itll help you get to know what it can and cant do.

If you are "Getting something done" < missions, team related accomplishments etc.> Know what you are doing, GO online, CLICK the links, RESEaRCH the quest.

    Level your subjob.

I know ive seen advice to the contrary but, Keep your gear. I have a mule who holds gear for me, it holds everything i can and it doesnt sell till no job will use it again. I.E. i keep my beetle gear till al jobs are past 21

Find a way to make a little money, and then do so.

Take breaks, tell your parents, G/F B/F you love them.

Make sure you have time for what you plan.

Please give your Party leader 10 minutes notice if you can. Tell them 10 minutes before you ding if nessesary, but give em a heads up.

Go Get Your Runic Portals. Stop what you are doing right now, close this window, log on and go. now NOW Why are you still reading this?

If you are low on cash, Merit. IMGolds are a great source of income. Cookies are cheap. thats like 20k an hour from meriting.

    Dont AFK flagged up.

make sure you arent /anon while seeking.

    Make friends.

P.S. i know its a silly stuperstition, but i have carried a 4 leaf mandy bud, a wild rarab tail and a lucky egg on me AT ALL TIMES for the last 3ish years. I'd wager i get more drops from lootpool to me and a higher % of bs/ks.

I must say that I will also disagree with this (as some others in the thread have), as a new person leveling to 75 doesn't need worth, they need spendable wealth. Those slots on their mule could be taken up by items they're stacking to 12, which can then be sold on the AH for more than any single piece of armor (around their level). Most of these people will only level a couple of jobs to 37 before taking one all the way to 75; they can use that space for lots of other things.

Unless it's for something to sell, it's not really worth your time to be a packrat. This is especially true if you only have one mule. I have several, but I've been playing this game for years, so it's a big difference.

Please give your Party leader 10 minutes notice if you can. Tell them 10 minutes before you ding if nessesary, but give em a heads up.
In guessing that this is a notice about leaving, I'd bump it up to 30 minutes. If you know you're going to be leaving in about a half hour, be fair, and give them a very large amount of notice. I find that people respect this more, as it either gives them more time to find replacements, or inspires other PT members to be honest about how much longer they'll be around too.

Of course, if something happens and you can't give them any advance warning, that's an obvious exception. Whenever you can though, tell them ASAP. I normally let my PTs know if I'm going to leave in an hour, even.

If you are low on cash, Merit. IMGolds are a great source of income. Cookies are cheap. thats like 20k an hour from meriting.
This is not a wholly bad idea, as people should accumulate merit points and spend them on their jobs. However, one would hope that by the time they've reached 75, they've discovered a method of farming that eclipses 20K an hour. I'm one of those players who's always broke, but I do know that if I put my nose to the grindstone and farmed a lot (without an HNMLS, I have no paycheck income), I could make more than that per hour, certainly. I just don't play enough to necessitate income.

If you really need money, farm something that always sells, like Silk Thread, Saruta Cotton, Sheep Leather (which you should craft yourself), or things you can sell to NPCs.

P.S. i know its a silly stuperstition, but i have carried a 4 leaf mandy bud, a wild rarab tail and a lucky egg on me AT ALL TIMES for the last 3ish years. I'd wager i get more drops from lootpool to me and a higher % of bs/ks.
This is a superstition, and everyone has their own little things they do that are out of the ordinary, but I wouldn't suggest this to others. It doesn't actually alter your drop rate.

The best advice I can give new players is don't rush through the levels too fast or feel rushed by people. Play the game to have fun.
Get to know your class and how to make the best out of it, read the guides on fansites and forums and get a good idea of what gear is good for the job. Often you will find that you cannot afford something, but there are usually cheaper alternatives that can be a nice filler until you get the nice item. Either farm until you can afford it or use something else that benefits your class.

And don't stress too much if there is an expensive piece that is out of your reach. Experienced players often badger you and say you should get it but they forget how hard it is to make sufficient gil as a new player.
Never give up on the goals though, just don't feel rushed if you have to skip a certain piece of armour for a while.

Enter healing mode, the shortcut is with h button of the keyboard. 100% sure of interruption, but the animation of siting and standing again will freeze you a bit.

Latter method is best for the long casting spells since cast mode will be disabled immediatly.
    fun trick:

casting only checks your position at the start and 'end' of a cast; and if they match (within a small margin) the spell will go off.

if you are casting something with a moderate to long cast time and are moved involuntarily, if you return to the same place in time, the spell will still go off. (try this with utsusemi:ichi and knockback some time).

you can also exploit this to move slightly just before a spell animation finishes, the 'end' of cast check is immediately before the spells effects start to take, you can use this to nudge the position of aoe's slightly.

If you're a whm or /whm know what enemy abilities cause status effects.

See a mob use dread shriek? paralyna the tank right then. It will take effect even if the "Tank is paralyzed" message has yet to show.

Also, prioritize who needs the effect removed first. In the above situation after you get the tank, paralyna the stunners or other jobs with important abilities (sleepers, backup healers, skillchain participants) before some random damage dealer.

Edit: Holy shit, I was reading this and someone posted the same thing I just did while typing it up, so, here's something else.

And I know this is pretty obvious, but make sure you get your tele crystals as soon as you can. Sure, Vahzl and Yhoat might not be useful to you -now-, but you'll probably use it later on. Also, OPs. They are a main form of transportation around old zones, so try to get those as soon as you can. You need to bring supplies to an Outpost under your home country's control to be able to warp there.

Also, if you don't have a mage sub, or aren't subbing NIN, bring Sneak Oil and Prism Powder wherever you go. Reraise Earrings are nice, too, when you have the money for them.

For NIN or /NIN a good tip would be change your font colour of "Attacks evaded by Player" to a shocking colour like white, bright green or bright blue, this helps considerably to see when you lose a shadow.

Also if you buy items like Emperor Hairpin or Leaping boots, dont resell them until you obtain the Rare/Ex counterparts, its pretty much garunteed youl end up rebuying them.

    Don't be that guy/girl:
who isn't ready for LS event requirements: not having gil for limbus, not having AP for salvage, not having Cutsceens done for missions, etc.

take the time to get stuff ready in advance

When someone says to disengage, don't question it, just disengage. It's not worth the argument and the inevitable xp loss when you don't listen.

For heaven's sake, get a buffer!

Mages, those of us who were not cheap and brought our own echo drops are tired of casting Silena on those of you who habitually forget to bring them. If being silenced is detrimental to the way you play your job, bring echo drops!

And please, if people are coming out of their way to help you with something, remember to thank them. I helped out a friend the other day with something, and it really, really, REALLY helped a lot that he said "Thank You" to me after we were finished. Nothing is more annoying than going out of your way to help someone and not even being acknowledged for it.

Also, please don't badger people who say no. No one is ever under any obligation to do your bidding.

And one more thing, "Come help me!" is not the correct way to ask someone to help you. Ever. Phrasing it as a question and adding the word please would help you immensely.
