To echo the chorus of "Don't think I'll get one, new features look useless and I'm happy with my current DS"...

Don't think I'll get one, new features look useless and I'm happy with my current DS.
When I first got my DSLite I used to play it all the time. Now I only use it between windows when camping kings and long trips. nothx nintendo.
Lack of GBA slot definitely makes me not want to get this, even if I can just play most GBA games on my PSP anyways. Though honestly, I sold my DS for 30 bucks about 2 weeks ago cause I just never play it. After Zelda I just lost interest in the games coming out for it.
One of the major selling points of each generation of handheld for Nintendo was the full backwards compatibility, removing that just seems stupid.
This is garbage, I was really expecting/hoping a next gen announcement - -; I'll stick with my cobalt DSlite![]()
It was probably always part of their strategy to make backwards compatibility irrelevant because they keep re-releasing 'DS' versions of every game you played on your SNES/GB/GBA. This latest move doesn't seem so inconsistent with such a strategy.
But yeah a camera + SD slot doesn't really make it better than the ds lite everyone already owns.
so long as my DS one or R4 is compatible i'll get it ;p
I'll buy one and give my DSlite to my little sister, since she's been begging for one, it's win/win.
I'll be buying one, I held out on the DS Lite for this to pop up inevitably. GBA games? No loss, I still have two GBAs and my original DS.
I really don't like the idea of DSi-dedicated games, that seems like a big middle finger to all the regular DS owners out there. Depending on the games, that could practically amount to forcing people to adopt the new DS if they want to keep up with their favorite series. If this were a totally new handheld, that would be acceptable, but the way it stands Nintendo is basically forcing people who already own a console to buy that console all over again just to play the games they want to play.
Of course, that's all speculation, and completely depends on what games, if any, end up being DSi-exclusive.
My original DS still works just fine, might not be quite as sleek as the Lite/DSi but I really don't see any reason to upgrade.
I don't use my DSLite anymore, but I do feel kinda shafted about this. It's just a money game, if the one console sells 500billion, we'll at least get a million out of this one, especially with dedicated titles.
And I'm sure they are going to force us to buy it, they'll probably remake ff7 on it just for this purpose.
I'm sure Nintendo Won't force you to buy anything. Other dev's might though. The most you'll get from nintendo are games that use the new features as a bonus. Games that work without the bonus on the regular lite.
It may be a money game, but at least Nintendo usually puts out new products that really improve upon their old models beyond asthetics (sp). They aren't like many other manufacters who remake the exact same product, just lighter/smaller/ect... & call it the "new and improved" "X" version!
excuse the necro... but w/the DSi coming out this week in Japan, if I order it oversee's can I still play NA games on the system?
They aren't region locked. I have several EU games I play on my US DS original.
Games specifically for the DSI are supposedly going to be region locked.
