Do you honestly believe Jason Whitten is better than Kellen Winslow? Gates?
Yes, He is the best all around TE in the game right now. Blocking, receptions, 3rd down conversions, he's awesome. Plus hes the most clutch receiver ever, almost never drops a pass - thats why Romo always goes to him when it matters.

lol ok, go ask anyone in professional football, including Jerry Jones and Tony Romo, who they'd pick if they can choose between Witten, Gates, and Winslow.

    I'd guess 90% Gates, 10% Winslow, 0% Whitten.

Harbaugh or Fisher might take Witten, if you're taking price into account.

yes, because being a top 5 TE obviously means you suck.

Right now he is the #1 tight end in football, stat wise and playwise, he runs his routes perfectly and blocks better than winslow and gates combined.

ROFL @ plow saying 0% would take Witten, maybe you should even learn how to spell his name before you say anything.

Meh, that's all subjective. Witten wouldn't be as effective in San Diego or Cleveland. He might be the best on paper, but his skill-set serves him best in Dallas.

I'd say best receiving TE goes:

    1. Gates
    2. Witten/Winslow/Gonzalez
    3. Shockey/Cooley/Daniels/H. Miller

    All around

    1. Witten/Gonzalez
    2. Shockey/Gates
    3. Cooley/Winslow/etc.

It's hard to say who's best. Witten is a truck but he's not that fast. He needs time to get down field which is something that Romo can give him. He also rarely sees double teams thanks to TO. Gates/Winslow/Gonzalez don't always have that same luxury.

Not being better than the 2 best athletes ever to play the position totally means you suck.

Winslow is young and does amazing things regularly despite knee injuries, it's quite obvious by the time his career is over he'll have been one of the best ever.

Gates is hurt and still the best in the league, period, I refuse to believe you people honestly believe Whitten is a better receiver than Gates (that's what the discussion is about, blocking has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the argument in the first place, but he's more than good enough at it that any team would take him over any other TE in a heartbeat).

Gates is the clear cut best receiving TE. Anyone who says otherwise is silly.

HOWEVER, if you want to take into account the ENTIRETY of the Tight End position, Witten might win by a hair.

Gates is Gates because he's ridiculously graceful for a guy his size. TBH, Winslow/Gates are true-blue Wide Receivers in a TE's body. They'll make the "wow" catches.

Witten's strength comes from his ability to catch in traffic. He won't make all the highlight reel catches, but he'll grab anything within arms length regardless of who he's dragging on his back.

    Right.

Point being, Witten's receiving stats are directly inflated by the presence of T.O. There's no way he's actually a better receiver than Gates, and he's only better than Winslow at the route running part, and not by much at that.

Witten is a good enough player that he'd be catching 80 balls and 1,000 yards regardless of who he lines up next to.

His numbers aren't hurt by the presence of TO, and they're certainly not that inflated.

At this point he's playing well enough to do that on any good team, yes.

But I doubt he gets 1000 yards in Cleveland, KC, Tampa, etc, anywhere that teams could actually focus in on him like they do on Gates and Winslow.

I'll put it this way, if Edwards starts catching the damn ball, Winslow's production will spike hugely as a direct result as well, it's certainly not a phenomenon exclusive to players that are good but not the best.

No they won't you retard. Defenses still have to game plan for Edwards regardless of how well he's playing. He's still a threat based on what he did last season. You don't stop playing a player because he's in a slump... as that's exactly how you help them get out of one.

Winslow isn't the #1 on his team, which means he gets the same type of looks that Witten gets in Dallas. He's still lining up next to a probowl wide out, just like Witten. Period. End of story. Your argument fails yet again.

You're retarded if you think Winslow isn't the #1 option on his team.

You realize Edwards has half the receptions, looks, and yards, right?

Where are you getting these stats lol? Your ass?

Winslow/Edwards are probably even in looks. Only Edwards has dropped everything that's been thrown to him this year.
