Bush isn't a lame duck. He has gutted the constitution and stripped us of our freedoms, while increasing his power and VP power considerably. Am I the only one who heard "dictatorship" last night when Palin said she would not have a problem using the same pretext of power Cheney has set? The whole, "is not an entity within the executive branch” and hence is not subject to presidential executive orders thing. Palin plainly stated that she has no problem using this to ensure the will of the president. That is not democracy. I really think we all should look into these conspiracy theories involving our government, to many disasters followed closely with solutions that hurt us in the long run and don't really do anything good for everyday man in the present. This world wide financial collapse was predicted by many of economist, politicians, and conspiracy theorist who have bits of the NWO playbook. The administration even admitted that the bailout was written weeks in advance. Why did they let it happen, only to issue a bailout that gives unprecedented power and a budget to a non elected official?

You're last statement is getting way out of control, the government would not purposely allow the economy to falter on such a scale to give power, or more money to the rich. The reason it could be written in advance is because economic trends are just that, trends. It means the economy can be predicted. It's not secret that the economy has been slowly going downhill for a very long time now. Lets leave the conspiracy theories at the door please.

Have you looked into the NWO, or is this just your own rationing?

People are missing the point. This sets an important precedent. Sure it's not a Hollywood-movie example of Martial Law but it still stands as an example of how Bush has continually degraded our rights. Who can predict the future? Where will this lead? I don't know but we should still be critical and concerned.

What Rights? What was violated with this? Members of the armed forces were taken out of the warzone and set aside to be backup in case of an emergency (read : natural disasters, terrorist attacks). They're sitting on their asses going thru regular training drills until one of those situations potentially comes up, and they'll eventually be redeployed overseas. The supposed division that was training/specialized in riot control is being deployed in the warzone, and has absolutely nothing to do with the troops stationed in the US.

Are you going to tell me that the National Guard troops stationed all over the US are now suddenly hidden cells deployed by George Bush to repress the American people?

    Why are conspiracy theories retarded?
Conspiracy: an evil, unlawful, treacherous, or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons; plot.
Two or more people plotting somthing bad, in secret, is all that is needed to be a conspiracy. The media and both candidates explicitly state that there is corruption on wall street that needs too end. More than likely, this corruption is done in secret, in groups of two or more, therefore, there are real, admitted conspiracies involving our economy.
When in human history has a government never had corruption? Why is it so inconceivable that their is a conspiracy at foot behind whats going on in the world today?

What rights? Have you missed out on the last 8 years of legislation?

I'm not specifically talking about the profundity of this one instance. You're patting yourself on the back for shooting the OP down. That's very easy. It's a very superficial point to make that we're all just overreacting.

Conspiracy theories are retarded when they base themselves on a contempt for science and reason.

    Which almost all do.

Rights that both Presidential candidates supported and have reinforced over the years (read : Patriot Act renewal in 2006), this is not some magical event unique to Bush. Shit may look bad now, but most of the country was in favor of crap like the Patriot Act in the wake of 9/11, the current administration (and pretty much everyone associated) just has the unfortunate job of cleaning up the mess they made. Bush by no means handled the entire situation well, but having to run the country during the events of the last decade is something that would suck for anyone. Now if you want to argue that the situation is worsened by Bush being in power (It is/was), go for it, but we'd be in a giant snafu either way.

The current economic flub? It's too close to the problem to really point specific fingers, it'll need a few weeks to level off and for heads to cool (in theory) before it can be all sorted thru. I could go into some points (Hi2u2 Barney Frank) here but that would be better suited for one of the real politics thread, not some "omg bush is going to kill us all" nonsense.

What research have you debunkers done into actually proving that there is no conspiracy against you? JFK said it himself that there is a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy against the world. Why do you think he was assassinated?

What you're suggesting is not even rational, its absurd. Lets for instance say you're right. Lets argue that the U.S government, completely in debt, would allow the economy to come near the brink of collapsing allowing the U.S dollar to rapidly lose value, and force the government to print more money to bail itself and the economy out of debt and increase inflation, yet again weakening the U.S Dollar.

How the fuck can you read that with any seriousness and then think to consider that while bank owners and wealthy men on wall street are going broke and losing everything that this bailout plan is going to allow the government to give power and money to them? Are you insane? What exactly does any wealthy person have to gain out of inflation and the weakening U.S dollar?

Look Krandor, I'm not agreeing with the OP. I don't believe in his conspiracy theories.

It's misleading to simply state that most of the American public approves The Patriot Act. The issue simply does not end with a 'yes' or 'no'.

One poll, detailing a specific instance of the Act:
    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/publ...on_patriot_act

    Broad poll on the Act:
    http://www.bordc.org/resources/public.php

We need to get up to date polling on these issues because the climate of opinion changes as the years during the war progress.

Now, as to Bush and our lawmakers agreeing on these things. Sure, that's fine. They agree. I do not. LOTS OF PEOPLE do not. We haven't even begun to discuss water-boarding, aka torture.

The National Guard kind of has their hands full with some of the disaster relief efforts from this last bout of hurricanes, and they still have a significant number deployed for the wildfires earlier in the summer.

No conspiracy here, just making sure we don't get caught with our pants down due to short staffing.

I'm not talking about now, I'm talking about the post 9/11 climate when it passed with almost unanimous support.
