I think Flamelurker is the hardest boss in the game... On new game+ I couldn't beat him at all, so I found two spots that he gets stuck and exploited it for the kill. The first spot (the best spot) is directly to the left once you enter the stage. Go around the bone wall, and shoot him from there... Then hide behind that bone wall as close as you can, and Flame lurker will run in a straight line and end up on the other side of the bone wall. It's kind of hard to hit him with magic from there, since you can't autolock on, so I recommend bringing a sword and doing some R2 attacks to take off big chunks of his health. Bring Purple Flame Shield to the fight, he can still damage you from behind the wall by doing "flame slams." So keep shield up at all times (release it with the right timing to let your stamina recharge).
I think chapter 3 and 5 have the easiest bosses.. one of the bosses you can beat with just 15-20 arrows.. However, it is very easy to get lost in chapter 5.
Yeah I ended up doing the glitch kill just to get past him. Still takes a while with no magic damage but it works. I did half a dozen runs as a blue phantom to try and get white world tendency going in 2-x and that boss is much easier with help and when you can enhance your weapon with magic.
One thing that has been boning me is the weight limit. Normally it is just losing an ore or a dinky weapon but I fucked up and lost the brushwood set down by the executioner phantom. I didn't know the weight on the armor set was 50 or so and only had enough free to grab the helm and shield. I twitched into the water and died with the rest of the armor set laying on the floor.
Here's a tip, never leave your Ring of Herculean Strength on (You know, the ring that helps you carry more items). When you're close to being overburdened, put that sucker on and evacuate out of the level with the last of the goods...
btw, You can get the rest of the brushwood armor...If you rescued Biorr and you let him die to the Blue Dragon before the Boletaria boss.
Camping black invaders is fun. This last guy was running around looking for me with his dragon bone smasher..and when he turned back I caught him around a corner and backstabbed him. Completely oneshot him. Didn't even see it coming.
So, I just:
Spoiler: show
Way to make me feel like a dick lol. I mean really, there was already some guilt there just how the level starts... not exactly your hostile KEEEL KEEEL demon. Just wanted to be left alone ;/
[edit] meh, spoiler-ized the goodies since it was pretty cool and I dont wanna ruin it for people who dont want it ruined ;x
Honestly I didn't think the Flamelurker was that bad. His moves are predictable, and he has openings that last a few seconds where you can easily get a 3 hit combo in. He usually does:
Hand swipe, followed by downward smash explosion (fully blockable with purple flame shield) that you can dodge and counterattack..
Charge up overhead aoe explosion (dodge backwards, can't block) that is obvious when he charges it up..
Jumping charge smash (blockable, easily dodged) that you can just step to the side and get some free swipes in.
Just keep strafing around the room and make sure you don't get backed into a corner. A magic weapon helps, as does water viel/purple flame shield/ring of flame resistance, but it's doable without them. Like most of the fights in the game, its just about studying the Boss's pattern of attack and attacking only when it's safe to.
Anybody know any good ways to move your character tendency to white pretty early in the game? I've only cleared 1-1 and 4-1 at this point.
I rerolled a hunter, it plays a little diffrently than I expected since arrows are pretty expensive, and arrows are more or less used to weaken opponets, how do you upgrade stats and shit, is it an npc, or whut?
The only real complaint I have thus far is the hit detection from behind with the one hit finishers.
There are two blacksmiths..one in the nexus and one in 2-1 who can upgrade weapons. I assume thats what you were asking about. Also if you rescue patches in 2-2 you can get better arrows from him in the nexus.
can you make any weapon have any upgrade? or are they limited? I want to make a crescent winged spear
When you get your body form back, suicide in the Nexus. Dying in body form within worlds moves that world towards black tendency. As long as you don't die in body form in each world, killing all the bosses should be enough on its own to move it to pure white. That's the easiest way to do it, otherwise you have to kill black phantoms.. which only come up in pure black tendency anyway.
The black maiden in the Nexus takes souls to upgrade stats, but only after you kill the boss in 1-1. And yeah, backstabbing takes some getting use to, but you'll know the "sweet spot" after some practice.I rerolled a hunter, it plays a little diffrently than I expected since arrows are pretty expensive, and arrows are more or less used to weaken opponets, how do you upgrade stats and shit, is it an npc, or whut?

Thanks. A few more questions :<
-Where do you get a Black Eye stone? Is it unlimited use or do you have to get more?
-Are there any penalties for losing when you invade another player?
Hoping to be able to snag this today from lockerz...fat chance, I know
anyone else feel a strange urge to switch deodorants?
I think you only lose a soul level when you die from the environment as a black phantom.
I believe this is correct. Which is funny because 2 people invaded me while I was killing the blue dragon in 1-4 and apparently the blue dragon is aggressive against black phantoms unlike other enemies. So both of them died trying to get by it thinking I was past it when I was just hiding.
I love it so far, too bad you decided not to try it Kyo. Bow can be just as effective as some low level ranged magic, if you do it right. There is also a way to apply your Turpentine/Sticky Whites to the bow as well, so that is always helpful on bosses.
As for the invading Hunter that blocked with a dagger... wow. I just can't see how that is more effective in any way. So far I have done just fine with Black Leather armor set, though I will occasionally throw on the Fluted Chestplate if i need more DEF. My main stats so far have been END, STR, and DEX. I have also raised Magic to 14 and Faith to 10. Evacuate is nice. I usually use my Abjudicater's Shield in my offhand.
Since I only seem to be able to connect to the DS servers 1 in 5 tries... being invaded isn't such a concern for me. It also means getting any help on the bosses is a pain and a half. ALMOST had Flamelurker on my first try last night, but he got me in the end. That was even straight up strafing him and not using the environment to get him stuck.
Since 4-2 is so easy to farm up 4-5k souls in about 45 seconds, i am not worried about it. I just need to up my stats a bit more so i can use the Flame Shield and try again.
I basically want Flamelurker and then Old Soul so i can turn my +8 Scimitar into a Large Sword of Searching, so I can go back to farming Spiderstones to get my Sticky Compound Long Bow +1 upgraded further.
