On the Maneaters, I used the Warding spell. I was light armor but the damage they did with Warding made it a joke.
I dunno if it would be that much worse NG+, I haven't played it since first playthrough.

Is +2 damage worth it as far as stat-boosts are concerned? That's all my DEX is still giving me per level on my bow (and a couple every few levels for my Large Sword of Searching).
Beaten 4-2 and have gotten around to some easy soul farming, and it's gotten to the point where I don't know what to put souls into, and I've been going back to resorting to stuffing it all into Endurance so I can wear stronger gear.
At Soul level 123 it seems like it's too far to bother wasting souls to make offensive magic usable, so I'm pretty much just going to work on melee-specific stats from here on in. Probably going to get my Endurance to 50 (it's 45 atm), then go round off DEX at 40 (36 currently), then decide between Vitality and Intelligence for HP/MP for a bit.
[EDIT] Whelp, Soul level 141 now, got all my magic learned (yay trophy), and only got 4-3 left to finish before end-game commences. Stone farming time, starting with pure bladestone since that's apparently the worst of the bunch.....and will make me level 200'ish in no time. >.>
I have to say I'm surprised I'm still playing this even after 70 hours of gameplay, with no sign of stopping until I at least hit the platinum trophy mark.
(I so want to max Endurance to level 99 eventually and toss on Ring of Great Strength to see what kind of heavy shit I can carry at naked speeds)
Just recently got my internet hooked up. How different is online play? Should I continue with my character or start a new one to experience online fully?
Gotta say, just starting out made this game extremely frustrating. My first handful of playthroughs were me running a short distance through the level, dying and shutting off the PS3. For the longest time I thought that red knight in 1-1 was required for moving on with the level so I spent way too much time trying to kill him. I had passed the lever to open up the boss's room before but hadn't found anything to click on and the red knight was the only mob left up in the level. It was annoying finally killing him and finding nothing behind him.
It got better when I found out you could trade in souls for levels. Kind of disappointed with the way the game "ends", though.
I started out as a Royal but I have no experience with other jobs so I can't really give an objective opinion but at the very least, the first playthrough with Royal is easier because a lot of things get destroyed by Soul Arrow. Subsequent playthroughs though, unless you level your magic, you're better off using one of the -brandt swords at full strength until you start building your stats around a weapon(s) you intend to settle on that raise with your stats.
For me I did melee from the start, no magic at all. I had the same thing, really hard time at the start. Keys to victory for me was i pumped end and found the purple flame shield+brushwood armor in 1-1. Then upgraded to lava bow (i was a str based char) I also went and got the demonbrandt but that takes you to beat quite a few levels, but definitely not required. I really dont feel like soul arrow is a requirement.
Jfc, pure bladestone doesn't exist.
Soul level 160 now after farming 4-2 for quite awhile now with perfect farming conditions, mainly waiting until I get a pure stone, then off to finish off some lizzies and whatever easy-to-get chunks/pures there are about the levels. Speaking of which, is there a handy checklist somewhere dictating all the locations of easy chunk/pure ores?
Still messing about with my stats, put some into Magic and Strength just for the sake of fulfilling all minimum stat requirements for everything in the game. Probably going to spend the next 15 levels catering to my OCDness of having all of my stats ending with a 0 or a 5.
Try starting out with the Halloween event going on :/ Having to fight a blue eye knight + black phantom knight simutaneously, twice in a row was not fun. 4-1 was also retarded because of Sasuke guarding the entrance and at a low level I was hitting him for 20 a hit, only to have him recover to full.
Starting to see why people say don't play online now. Twice in a row my world tendency for world 4 gets reset to neutral, and only world 4. -.-
Time to farm souls for more stones to suicide on.![]()
I'm well aware of all the world shift tendencies.
Regardless, the tendency of world 4 got reset yet *again* after I turned it off earlier (3rd time now). ffs, I'm not made of ephemeral stones here.
What's the best way to check Tendency? I went through the entire Stonefang Tunnel world, including the main, final boss there and died very few times. If I'm understanding World Tendency it should be fairly high but I don't know how to check for sure.
Also, what's the deal with learning magic? I have Intelligence 10 but I don't have Magic 10 (at 9 currently) and Sage Freke is telling me that he "is too old to be of use" to me. I'm assuming I need Magic 10 to learn but I'm not sure. My character is almost strictly physical-damage (spear/shield and bow) but I would very much like to get the weapon enchant spells to help my damage out in specific situations.
This game is fucking amazing and I love the shit out of it. This is literally the first difficult game I've played in 2-3 years (everything else is either easy or loaded with checkpoints which makes retrying extremely simple despite the level's difficulty, like in Call of Duty: World at War on Veteran) and the feeling of progression against the odds is just wonderful. The unforgiving nature of this game establishes a strong ambiance in which you actually fear for your life while playing. It makes the boss battles more exciting and sneaking around the dark environments more creepy. Even the random Black Phantom invasions are awesome (I fought and killed my first one last night while creeping through the swampy mess at the bottom of the towers in 3-2). This game is awesome.
Need 10 minimum to get a magic slot for him to even teach you spells to put into it.
World tendency you can read about here: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/world-tendency
There anyone around level 200 that'll let me leech ore trophies and crafted weapons' for Soldier's Trophy? I've been blazing through NG+ #2 after finishing up #1 due to getting tired of not getting pure bladestone to drop (after gaining 70 some levels off farming him), so I'm working on getting my Miracles learned first, then all I would have left are the special weapons/max-upgraded trophies.
There's really no reason to farm anything before NG+4. You need 4 playthroughs anyway to get all the spells/upgrades. Farming anything before then is pretty silly, seeing as you could get lucky on one of the latter mandatory playthroughs.
My line of thinking was that I may as well farm while I'm capable of one-shotting the majority of the mobs easily without having to grind a hundred levels yet again.
At any rate, I'm surprised how fast I'm blazing through NG+ #2 (just 3-2/3-3 and world 5 left to do already), I don't know if it's due to the lack of risen difficulty compared to the first, or the fact I gained a good 60-80 some levels prior to the point where I was ready to finish off the final demon god/last boss back in NG+ #1.
Mero, forgot that I was within your level range now @.@, will toss you a message next time I see ya on.
So, I bought a new 50" Samsung Plasma (PN50B650), and when playing my PS3 over HDMI, Demon's Souls launches in 720x480@60hz when I hit the info button on my remote, but the PS3's dashboard is running at 1080p
wtf?
Edit: Fixed it, 720p mode over HDMI wasn't checked
ZP review here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vide...1-Demons-Souls
Turns out he's a huge pussy and can't handle a man-game.
Kind of surprising really, seeing as he makes sure to complain about the casualization/dumbing down of videogames in every goddamn video hes ever made.
Who knew he was actually a gigantic vagina.
That may have been the stupidest review I've seen by him. Seems like he did 1-1 and 1-2 and gave up. There are 5 different worlds for a reason. If one is too hard for you then go try another -1 world. Jesus Christ.
I didn't even think the game was too hard until you got into New Game+s (minus the learning curve on the first level)
The hardest this game ever was for me was first starting. Once you know everything, everything else is just making retarded-assed mistakes on your part. This game is like playing Contra in hard mode. It's mostly memorization.
