So I hear all of this talk about the Purple Flame Shield being really great, but I wonder what shields are better than it? Also wow Poison Cloud is so broken I just killed the Red Dragon in 1-2 with it.

Also, anyone have any suggestions for armor for a Royal running a pure magic build(if it matters).

Fully upgraded Tower Shield is better than a fully upgraded PFS+10, but that thing weighs a fucking ton

I've killed so many salamanders, and they're only dropping chunks of clear -_-

Okay so I bought this game. Played it for about 30 minutes. Died 5 times to extremely difficult enemies in the first level and had to start over at the very beginning. I had absolutely zero clue as to what was going on. Had no idea where I was or what I was supposed to be doing.

Turned it off, haven't played it in 2 months. Do I have to play online to have fun or what the fuck?

Do you mean 2-2? 2-3 is the Dragon Boss, with the impaling trap

I meant 2-3. There are two lizards in there, one up by the second catapult, and one near the DBS iirc. All the boss portions of a map have them too you know.

Are you talking about the tutorial? You're supposed to die in that. I felt the same way the first time I played, but if you keep at it and get through the first level the game opens up and I ended up liking it. So yeah, hated it at first rage quit then came back 2 minutes later and ended up enjoying myself.

Also, you really need to play online for the hints players leave and the blood stains. Those two things are what help me make it through all levels. The blood stains show you how a previous player died, and well the tips are self-explanatory.

Not sure if it was the tutorial or not. I started right outside a castle it looked like then I made my way around the outside then I gave up :D

You have to die as part of the story so if you died and came back in the Nexus then you're past the tutorial.

You don't exactly have to die, well you do, but not necessarily to that boss. You can actually beat the boss, or so i read, but you die later on, after you open some chest or something.

Game is totally worth the 60 bucks, it's hard but not in a "oh my god that's so cheap" sort of way. Every time you die it's because you did something wrong, not because the game decided to fuck you over. That's the best way I can describe it, anyway.

I think it's also described well by George Takei (Simpsons)...

"American game(shows) reward knowledge. Japanese game(shows) punish ignorance".

Once you know what to do and what's coming it's actually not that bad. I still think 4-1 is a total bitch, though at least the boss is a pansy.

I love 4-1, its 3-1 and 5-1 i hate.

5-2 is easily the worst, level-wise. Boss is easy though.

5-2 blows so hard. Even with poison resist rings. God that's such a terrible level.

I found I could null the plague with an upgraded Blessed Weapon (and I believe you get a mace from 5-1 to boot) and the Adjucator shield, so 5-2 wasn't that bad. I also equipped the plague curing miracle and stashed a couple plague items. Once I knew where to run it was more than easy to get around. It only sucked when you got caught on the swamp fighting giants and stuff... since you can't dodge. My purple flame +10 was able to guard their attack without breaking but it raped my stamina.

4-1 though... fuck I raged. The entire level is just designed to hate you. The black katana skeletons can instant kill you (though you only need to fight one; and bow sniping it is boring but.. necessary...). The cliffs make it hard to dodge and in addition to fighting the skeletons you have to worry about rays shooting at you (and sometimes 3 can shoot you at one time...).

Totally ballbusting. The other stages I managed fine. 3-1 I used bow or magic to handle the flayers. I had no problems with 5-1, actually.

I hate 3-2 with a passion, all because of the trekking you have to do to get all the way back to the second tower if you just so happen to die anywhere along the way. It could have really used a triggered shortcut.

I agree with 5-2 being a bitch though, although it's not too bad for me since I just speed-run the zone.

4-1 is ridiculously easy, you can skip the first red eye skeleton if you have trouble with it, the second one you have a lot of space. If you can block an attack from one of the giant goblins, you should be able to block a forward lunge attack from red eye skele (but will probably knock you back, roll backwards asap). Red skele is very easy if you know its attack patterns, pretty weak to fire magic too.

4-1 is even easier when you use the backdoor.
