What's AMF?
Anti Magic Field
AMF is a double edge sword because u get screw by it to.
Any suggestions for fire magic defense before trying to run past the blue dragon in 1-4 (or 1-5, idk... It's once he flys off to perch above the door at the top of the steps...
Anyway, I keep getting roasted alive and Im wearing my fire ring, Purple flame shield +5, Old king armor and that heavy roman looking helmet to max out my fire resistance. I'm soul level 89 atm and have enough stamina to reach the archway underneath him but I always die about 5 feet away
Anyone have any suggestions?
Take off all your armor, you'll run faster and make that last 5 feet.
So I just got a PS3 and have a couple questions before I throw down $60 on this game after I beat MGS4. I apologize if any are noobish, but I try to avoid as many spoilers as possible before playing a game, so I don't read wikis or exhaustive FAQs generally beforehand.
- How is the class distribution? Is there 1 or 2 classes which people predominately play because they are superior to the rest? Are there any classes which suck and should be avoided despite sounding appealing?
- How are different types of damage in the game? Is it similar to other games where a certain type of damage is superior to others (i.e. magic in dragon age)?
- I keep hearing the game is "hard", even though I'm not concerned about that after most recently beating Dragon Age on Hard (PC version) even though they are different animals. I'm more curious as to what -makes- the game hard. Do monsters always scale up to say, 5-10 levels above your level? Or is it more of a "one wrong step and you're dead because you randomly get impaled by spikes" type of hard?
Classes don't seem to matter too much. It's mostly what you start with. You can allocate stats wherever you want each level.
imo Dragon Age is a lot more technique/equipment dependent. Demon's Souls can supposedly be beaten with the starting equipment, the "hard" part comes with the fact that the game(bosses) dont really care what you have on. If it's your level, higher, or black world tendency then everything has a chance to kill you.
In this game damage types arent necessarily better than others. Bow use are of course superior at range, but if you dont have good melee equipment too you can get slaughtered. Melee uses can destroy most things but some proper magic can mow them down too. I think everyone runs around with a bow and a melee weapon unless they have magic, then they probably carry their catalyst(used to fire offensive spells) and their melee weapon XD
Dragon Age on Hard is no contest to difficulty on Demon's souls. Dragon age is push a few macros. Demon's Souls takes memorization of mob movements and proper responses and don't roll off a cliff while trying to dodge. Damage types are different per levels some are better with magic some are better with piercing some are weak to everything. Class doesn't matter. Basically royal is starting off on easy, every other class is about the same.
It's not hard so much as challenging. One wrong step can fuck you but if you think quick and know how to adapt you'll do fine.
It's frustrating dying but you generally don't die on the same thing twice unless you're doing it wrong, or you're in an area at the wrong time, or you're using the same technique that got you killed before.
Def worth the 60 bux
I'm gonna be honest on my opinion of the game and hope not to tread on anyone's possible "favorite" game. Again this is all only opinion from my month of playing the game.
I didn't think it was that great. I enjoyed the first few triumphs of the game, but after a while I find myself reluctant to bother playing it; it just grew stale I guess. It's something about the lack of further customization that bores me, the weapon upgrades are so simple and the small number of unique weapons that feel kind of bland disappointed me.
The lack of npcable items disappointed me, I felt like it was a pretty stupid move - not so much that I don't understand how it would ruin the flow of the souls as both exp and money combination, but how the souls were already useless after a certain point made it seem like fail for not eventually having an npc to sell to.
The limited number of spells, and uselessness of titles of "classes" were also a weakness. Most of the spells look the same - like small balls of color (barring the few that don't like FS and RoG)... I actually had a friend ask me what old ass computer game I was playing upon viewing me play this game once haha. Do not misunderstand, the game's graphics are phenomenal just lacking in presentation/design - ragdoll bodies, really?
I won't go into the lack of story (order for those who wanna dispute the point), because well that's fairly obvious when you start the game and have no idea what's going on or what you're supposed to be doing when you hear "the monumental" lol.
I definitely thought it was a pretty cool idea - well really the only things I liked were the fighting, pvp and the hints/bloodstain combo - I just found myself feeling like it could've been so much better had they add this and that way too often. I also hate how the expected (pvp) level cap is 120. I was excited to level towards 712 or w/e until I heard this news.
It's a tough call; I don't regret owning it because I didn't pay for it, but if I knew what I did now I probably would not spend the money on it myself - maybe rent it first.
The Hints/Bloodstains are only useful for new players. Once you've went through the game once, they're not helpful. So because of that, I don't really think they're a big deal
I also think there should've been a larger variety of spells added, and perhaps the "real" 4th archstone should be unlocked as well, because the game is very short once you've gone through once and are going through on NG+,++,+++ each and every time afterwards. Also, playing PVP can be frustrating as hell. The netcode for this game is terrible, as lag seems to affect just about everything you try to do (Check youtube for the PVP videos, you'll see what I'm talking about)
Beyond those three things, this game is phenomenal. There's nothing like it. I keep comparing it to a combination of Diablo+Zelda. The lack of story doesn't (at least for me) hinder the game whatsoever. As you progress, you instinctively only play for/care about the gameplay and the small dialogues here and there are plenty to keep the game world feeling just tangible enough so you don't feel completely alone
Maybe it's just me, but I can't put the game down. I'm addicted to trying to upgrade every single weapon in the game, either via CDS's or stones
One thing I would've liked to be able to do is convert lesser stones into larger stones via an NPC
Ex. 99 Suckerstones > 1 Chunk of Suckerstone
That way, they keep the hardcoreness of it, but give the player an option to use stones that they would otherwise have no use for
Finally sat down and played past the tutorial and I fell in love with this game.
Not only did I die 3 times on 1-1 but each time I was like straight scared I was going to lose all my souls. Never has a game instilled such a dire feeling in me. I was so scared at one point, I took off my thief ring and some enemies swarmed be right after I had crossed the bridge past the dragon (took me forever to build up the courage to run across through the remaining soldiers), and so my body was dead, across the bridge where the dragon was, and I was scared out of my mind that I wouldn't be able to make it across again and I'd lose everything. Luckily the game is nice and mysteriously makes the dragon dissapear, I am guessing after I triggered the little cutscene, so I recovered my souls just fine. I also got some cool items like a purple fire shield, a shitty ring that boosts my carrying capacity and some jade thing that I think teaches soul arrow but I already have it, also got some Mausoleum key next to a blue eye knight, no idea where that goes. I cannot beat the red-eye knight though, he was my first death (besides the rigged boss) and he freaking owned me so hard, I threw one firebomb and he slashed me for like all my health, so I decided not to go that way anymore lol.
I am now fully cleared and at the first boss (still 1-1 though, geez what a serious game), but I went back to the nexus to see what I could do with my souls. However I am totally unsure what to get. I thought I upgraded stats and spells but I only see a blacksmith and he's selling average looking stuff. I am a royal and my soul arrow owns, I hardly have to use my scimitar, but when I do it owns too. Can anyone recommend what I should buy or tell me where I upgrade stuff? I don't want to die on the boss and lose the 8k souls I've collected even though that may be a laughably small amount.
Oh yeah, also is there a way to sell things? I've got some stuff I won't use and was wondering if I should drop/store or sell it (if possible?).
Look behind columns on main floor with blacksmith. There's more npcs to buy stuff from. Use your souls as you will. However don't get too attached to them. If your scared of losing them, spend them.
Go do 2-1 now. Or do 1-2. Don't look up guides unless your truly stuck. The game is good because you don't know what's around each corner.
As you go along and rescue people/do more bosses more people will appear in town. You'll have the ability to buy spells. Also hold onto any soul items from bosses.
Theres also ed the blacksmith that does more stuff he's in 2-1 not far from the start once you find the lever.
Trophy Percentage: 53%
Getting a ton of the *stone upgrade trophies finished, still need Bladestone (lol), Cloud, Darkmoon, Faint, and Marrow
1. Can't sell stuff. Seems annoying at first but once you play through the game a few times (that's the point of DS. beating it once really accomplishes little to nothing), you'll realize how easy the game would be if you could just sell shit and get a ton of souls in doing so
2. Save/Store as much as you can, especially stones for upgrading, it'll help you on the next time you start New Game+
