Haha, that means Ostrava (the knight you saved) died because he drops that key. The blue eye knight probably killed him, he gives you more rewards if you rescue him in the later levels. Oh well, at least you found the key before you went back to the Nexus, would have lost it for the playthrough and wouldn't have been able to fight Doran and get the Demonbrandt if you hadn't found that key.

One thing I would've liked to be able to do is convert lesser stones into larger stones via an NPC

Ex. 99 Suckerstones > 1 Chunk of Suckerstone

That way, they keep the hardcoreness of it, but give the player an option to use stones that they would otherwise have no use for

this would be nice.

I cannot beat the red-eye knight though, he was my first death (besides the rigged boss) and he freaking owned me so hard, I threw one firebomb and he slashed me for like all my health, so I decided not to go that way anymore lol.

it's totally doable at your level 1-9, but i think the consensus is for people to do that and the next part around level 30. if you play a male character and/or have white character tendency(which you won't right now) then the next dude has some good rewards for you

1-1 is the hardest level, imo. the learning curve is steep up-front, but you're past the harshest part.

also, if you didn't get a cling ring in 1-1, go back and get it.

Cling ring? I got a Thief's ring but dunno what a cling ring is.

You get the cling ring when you go down the one tower (before the blue eyed knight) to open up the shortcut to the left tower (from the start of the level), the ring will be right by the lever that opens the door to it. It gives you back 75% HP (pending CT/WT) in soul form rather than being stuck with 50%, which helps a lot.

1-1 would be an absolute nightmare for beginning the game with if the boss wasn't just straight ahead from the start after you trigger the gate.

you remember the part where you face the first blue-eyed knight? go back up there, there are 4 exits from this platform.
1 is the fog to continue the level,
2 is a cliff opposite that fog with a jump down to a crossbow,
3 is the red-eyed knight+doran,
4 is the cling ring

Do any of you guys bother with crossbows? They don't seem to scale in damage at all compared to bows (Lava is decent, Sticky LB+5 is hot)

Also, why doesn't the bleed effect on MS "Makoto", Tearing Uchi, and Gripless +x occur 100% of the time? Kinda makes using them pointless, which sucks because I had high hopes for those since they do pretty decent damage

Best sword in the game that I've used so far: Northern Regalia, fucking owns. @ Lv148, my RH DMG = 540, in Body Form, shit is unreal. In Soul Form, it's even more hardcore. I think it gets more powerful the more white your world tendency is, and allows you to do higher magical damage the darker it gets

crossbows suck after the first playthrough .. actually they suck there too.

every guide i've read online about the tower of latria and the blocked path, says you just need white WT to get past it to get the goodies, 3-cornered hat and venerable sage set

i have damn near PWT in that world and the path is blocked ;(

I saw this edge next to the fog and dropped down that way but there wasn't anything on the ledge. It did lead to the guy who obnoxiously threw firebombs at me from an unreachable platform on the way up there though. However, I had already killed him with my soul arrow. Does he drop the crossbow and I just missed it or what? Not a big deal apparently since they suck I guess.

Is there any weapon I should upgrade in particular? I notice I can only use like one sword I've found and nothing else not even shitty shields since my stats are too low. I am guessing I do some STR first to equip better weapons? Maybe upgrade my sword since it seems to have a good ratio of damage and speed of attacks?

I would get your STR up to 22 so you can equip the purple flame shield you got in 1-1. Also lots of melee use the Dragon Bone Smasher which has a dmg bonus based on STR.

With my mage, i used the sword you get at the beginning of 4-1 pretty much all the way through the game w/o upgrades.

i like swords because you can swing a lot before running out of stamina. but thats just like my opinion man.

Getting chunks of mercurystone are damn near impossible, reminds me of farming for ACP mission 1 items -_-

I looked it up and he just guards a door you use to get to the best weapon in the game. The old, best weapon in first level trick. However you have to kill something for it, this is what I looked up because I thought I could just get it after I read it was behind him, haha.

He can also drop a purple flame shield, arguably the best shield in the game, although it's an exceptionally rare drop and it's infinitely easier to get from the dragon den. He does guard Old King Doran though, which you also need the Mausoleum key to access. He drops eternal warrior ring (increase stamina regen, very good ring), the old king armor set (probably the best armor set for males), and also the demonbrandt if you only get him to 75%. The demonbrandt is great if you have white character tendency (not world tendency). If you invade a lot though it'll be largely useless. You should use poison/plague cloud to kill him, otherwise it's a long and tedious fight.
