I'm on my first game (probably going to finish it tonight and start my NG+) and I've gotten pure hardstone from the geckos in 1-4. I don't think all geckos can drop pure, but I know that those ones at least can.

Dragon God can suck my dick, finally beat him tonight but now I need to rescue Saint Urbain and get my super miracle.

I'm kind of noticing that my soul level is harder to bring up now. It's like 9.5k to level now and I have 8k souls. I have Int/Faith to 18 for my talisman of beasts, str to 22 for my shield I got in 1-1, one point in endurance to get me under 50% to roll, dex to 20, and now upgrading int for the spell memory/mp pool, currently at 17 I believe, or about 137 MP with my silver coronet on.

Is leveling my int a bad idea, should I be putting points into something else? I feel like I don't know where to put points and I feel like I will beat the game at this rate without even breaking level 50.

Do you start earning a TON more souls per kill at some point?

You'll never earn a substantially more sells aside from the jump from NG to NG+. Once you get access to soul sucker though it's basically a free ride to 150+, since you can 1 shot 3 black phantom skeletons for a ton of exp (and farm pure bladestone simultaneously).

As for INT, I'd largely ignore it after you hit the 100 mp point. 100 mp will give you enough to cast all major spells aside from Thirst (which isn't very useful considering the huge mp cost and short duration). Fresh spices are also cheap and you can just buy a stack of 99 without really being too much of a burden on your soul bank.

As Eggroll said, you'll get a lot more souls once you start doing NG+. Probably the best place to farm souls if you want to would be in 4-2, there are videos on youtube of how to do quick runs; or one of my favorites, 'Blue Phantom'ing in 1-4. Can get well over 100,000 on some runs, plus Black Phantoms kills if they invade.

You'll probably end your first play-through a little under soul level 100 if you don't farm, but you can easily reach 120 with a bit of farming. Taking Int anywhere past 18 isn't too useful unless you want a magic build. Your build seems to favor going a Dex route already. You have the strength to wield whichever weapon you want, then if you just focus on Dex to 40 and make Sharp weapons you'll be massacring most monsters. Aside from Dex, focusing on Vit and then End are probably your best bets, you can't go wrong with points in either.

I neat tip for a Dex build, if you get the spell Curse Weapon from Yuria (Silver Demon's souls, Penetrator) and you lack the faith/int to 'use' the talisman of the beast, but you can still equip it, you can still buff your weapon for 50%+ damage but have no HP drain. Sorry if I mixed up some terms, I get confused between what Int and Magic do on the English version, I play the Chinese version where the terms are different.

Grab the thief ring and cling ring in 1-1, they're some of the greatest rings you can get in the game and you can pick them up within the first 30 minutes of playing. Try to avoid playing in body form whenever possible and suicide in the Nexus whenever you regain your body. Although most people find extra hp very helpful, you will kick yourself later on if you screw yourself out of some great items. If you die in body form you're world tendency goes down, and you can always bring your tendency down to pure black, but after you've killed all the bosses in a world, you can't bring your world tendency to pure white until you do NG+, so be careful.

For character builds, avoid hybrid builds early on and focus on a few select stats. The reason being, leveling a stat early on gives very large bonuses compared to later in the game (ex. leveling str from 10>11 can boost weapon damage by +7, whereas from 90>91 it'll only be +1) Luck is widely regarded as being useless, unless you are using the blueblood sword. Most stats tend to peak at around 30-40, after that effects of each stat point will have an almost negligible bonus. Keep in mind that Str gets a 50% bonus when used with 2 hands (ex. if you have 66 str and are 2 handing a weapon, you'll do the same damage as if you had 99 str).

Regarding farming, try to find the blessed mace +1 in 5-1 early on. With it, you can go through the skeletons in 4-1 very easily which give a generous amount of souls early on (you can also find a crescent falchion +1 in 4-1 which is amazing if you nab it early in the game). Another good source of souls early on is the 2 blue eye knights you can access after beating the tower knight, just warp to the 1-2 archstone, kill the 2 knights, return to the nexus, and repeat. After you beat 4-2, you can also farm the reaper near the beginning if you have a bow, which will be the best source of souls for a while.
This video shows how to get the blessed mace +1 (he gets it at 5:20): link

Last thing to keep in mind, once you beat the game and learn the soul sucker spell, you can respec your character if you chose to with a friend. However, you cannot regain any points you put into vitality (so if you were a royal and put 10 points into vitality, you'll only ever be able to go back down to level 11 instead of level 1). Not too important, but something to keep in mind if you plan on switching things up later on. Finally, although it's a bit of common sense, never use the boss souls until your absolutely sure you've learned every spell and synthed every weapon they can be used for. Seen too many people bitch and moan about how they have to go through another playthrough because they accidentally used a soul and now can't learn xx spell.

I read it's best to just disconnect from the internet for trying to earn the stuff the first time around, so I am always offline now. I don't want those stupid events fucking up when I try to change WT.

Get World 2 to Pure Black, go to 2-2 archstone, run straight, go right, drop down until you get to the place with 2 crystal geckos, kill the Black Phantom there.

If you have pure white tendency, you can kill Scirvir's white world body form for a -3 in world tendency right off the bat. This will prevent you from getting the pure greystone though if you haven't already shown him the DBS, and really getting to him and killing him might take just as long as killing yourself by jumping off the cliff near the start in 2-1 three times.

Stones of Ephemeral eyes aren't really rare though, and can be farmed in certain spots if you really wanted to.

Most fun and time consuming way is to suicide in world 2 then invade other people to get your body back.

I always wondered about invasion, do they match you with someone your level or what? I feel like if I tried it I'd get some level 200+ guy who would rape me with a single spell or something. How does it work exactly?

iirc, for Invasions, under level 100, you get matched up with someone within 10 levels. Post 100, it's within 20 levels.

For the 3-3 boss it appears to be a complete crapshoot though as to what you get with regards to level of opponent.

That ties into my other question also, I never see Blue things before bosses for summoning people. Is this how people invade or is this a different mechanic? If I do use the blue thing to summon someone can they steal drops or attack me? Or, does the invasion with the black stone only allow stealing/attacking/interaction between the two players?

You mention for 3-3 boss the invasion level mechanics are iffy or something to that effect, does this imply that people invade and help on bosses instead of fighting, is there some benefit to invading as opposed to doing the blue summon thing? Why would you allow someone to invade and help you instead of going as a blue summon thing instead?

Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. It depends on your level, the time of day, and the boss in question.

Different mechanic. If you get invaded, you'll see a mist wall appear at the beginning of the current area, blocking you into the current sector, and the game will explicitly tell you a player has invaded.

If I do use the blue thing to summon someone can they steal drops or attack me?
No friendly-fire in the game, and you get all the loot, well, unless they knock a mob off a ledge.
(accidentally did that to someone's gekko before as I ran by a corpse of one >.> )

Or, does the invasion with the black stone only allow stealing/attacking/interaction between the two players?
You can get invaded even while being assisted by two blue phantoms (there's a glitch that allows 3, but I've no idea how it's done), all it means is the black phantom is going to have a hell of a time dealing with all of you at once.

You mention for 3-3 boss the invasion level mechanics are iffy or something to that effect, does this imply that people invade and help on bosses instead of fighting, is there some benefit to invading as opposed to doing the blue summon thing? 3-3 boss is the Old Monk, who summons any players who leave a soul sign in World 3 (either to help a player, or to invade), and forces them to fight a player currently traveling up the tower at the end of the world, regardless of their intent.

I guess you could be a 'good' guy as the boss and just sit there and let the player whail on you for an easy win though. Only perk for beating the player is the usual benefit of getting your body back, lowered CT, and a chance of getting the old monk's hat (the one you're forced to wear during the boss fight)
